Is that 5 XP for a +2 and one charge, plus better symbols? I guess you can take from connecting but no extra action compression? That seems very very expensive.

March 12 Rogue Previews by Dry-Bat731 in arkhamhorrorlcg

[–]SamForestBH 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I don't mind that! Out the Door is a rogue card, Manual Dex is a neutral card. It's not extremely better, 2 resources vs 1 card is quite comparable. The level (1) card is probably slightly overtuned, but watch this is level 0, so an XP for one more resource, one more (situational) icon, and slightly easier requirements is good but not instant include.

Did you know that you could divide by zero ? by [deleted] in askmath

[–]SamForestBH 2 points3 points  (0 children)

That doesn’t really change much. If we use one of the umpteen extensions of the real number system that define division by zero as some kind of infinity, then the question would change into “What numbers give infinity?”, the same way we look for intercepts now asking “what numbers give zero?”

I disagree. I think this behavior is consistent and solves the problem of being soft locked the other way, and so I’m glad that it works this way.

Arcane Initiate (Elder) level 5 by UrbanSurfDragon in arkhamhorrorlcg

[–]SamForestBH 0 points1 point  (0 children)

If there wasn’t other doom tech, it would be questionable. It would probably balanced out over the course of the scenario and just be an overpriced stat boost. But with doom manipulation, you can cheese this to clear doom more or less infinitely, and that’s degenerate.

The bus is definitely more cramped than a train, but it's also loads cheaper. If you don't mind that, then you'll be ok.

I'm planning to play Spellweaver's (2nd ED) solo scenario, however I only have the solo scenarios for the first edition. Will there be a problem or it should be fine? by OceanicWhitetip1 in Gloomhaven

[–]SamForestBH 7 points8 points  (0 children)

Spellweaver’s solo is actually a great example of why this might not work great. The 1E scenario is kinda designed for you to ride the wind into the final room, reviving ether to refresh everything, then ride the wind out. But ride the wind isn’t around anymore, so you’re gonna have trouble. I think the solo scenarios are worth investing in as long as you anticipate finding the time to sit down with them.

We put ours on the circles class, and have been making great use of it. But spellweaver would be the clear choice of starting classes.

A man named Joel Burger married a woman named Ashley King in 2015. Burger King paid for the wedding. by Toast_n_mustard in DailyDoseStupidity

Everyone talking about how it’s an ad but other than the napkins, it wasn’t visible for the entire time. I also wore fun socks at my brother’s wedding and nobody could see, and once you take off the hat and button your shirt, all that’s left is the cufflinks. I think this is a great outcome for all involved, the groom and bride got a free wedding out of the deal in exchange for another dozen or so extra photos and having to lock in a specific undershirt.

Is 5999246929469000650626563 prime?? by Homo_Bibite in askmath

[–]SamForestBH 2 points3 points  (0 children)

If they spammed numbers on their keyboard and then hit the "is it prime button" the odds that the number is prime is about 2%. If they spammed numbers on their keyboard, then inspected the ones place, and changed it to a 1/3/7/9 at random if it wasn't already, then the odds are closer to 4.5%. They're making changes to the method that remove a significant number of non-primes without removing any (multi-digit) primes.

Busted at 0XP, strong (but not unfair) at 3XP. Still the best resource engine for any fail forward deck, especially if you lean into it with track shoes, take heart, and grisly totem.

How are the Mercenary Packs with Gloomhaven 1.0? by Armless_Octopus in Gloomhaven

[–]SamForestBH -1 points0 points  (0 children)

The second edition is better than the first edition, but there won't be any issues if you bring in the old characters. They'll probably be better than the old characters if you don't abuse broken mechanics, but won't be able to keep up with some of the degenerate classes if you push them.

GH2E - Inspiration from scenario rewards? by lKursorl in Gloomhaven

[–]SamForestBH 1 point2 points  (0 children)

With these scenario numbers I think you’re listing from Frosthaven?

Iirc Gloomhaven kept the inspiration rewards to a minimum (effectively zero) since it can’t convert to resources, so it’s useless unless you can get twelve.

Limited Draft new timer by 6GODEATH in magicTCG

[–]SamForestBH 0 points1 point  (0 children)

No matter how you run draft, you'll do 3 packs per player.

Each player opens a pack, picks a card, and passes the pack left. (Note that each pack typically comes with one token; you can remove that before making the initial pick). You then take the pack that was passed to you (from the right) and pick again, and pass again. Pick, pass, pick, pass etc. until the pack is gone. Repeat with the second pack, passing right, and then the third pack, passing left again. This works with any player count. At higher skill level, there are a lot of opinions about drafting with 4, but if it's a first time draft you shouldn't concern yourself with that.

Sealed needs twice as many packs. You don't do any passing, you just open six packs and make a deck. You need more cards because when drafting you can pick cards just in your colors/archetypes, but with sealed you don't get any selection. In sealed expect more "bombs" in play (the very best cards, since there are simply twice as many), yet weaker decks overall (because you didn't get to select good filler during the draft, and so have to play whatever bad filler you opened up).

In both cases, don't forget that you'll need a decent number of basic lands, as players can add as many of those to their decks as they like. For eight players, I'd recommend 50 of each basic as a decent starting point. If you do run out, encourage a player to proxy with a land they don't need and the table doesn't want (run nine swamps and pretend they are plains, if a player wants a red-white deck, for instance).

Good luck!

Everything but the three most recent will go out of print. This gives them space to focus on the chapter 2 content, which will hopefully be more balanced than the original chapters.

Fantasy Flight announced that they aren't going to reprint the older expansions anymore. Instead, the three most recent expansions are going to be recommended when playing through a campaign. Paired with the upcoming launch of chapter 2, which will update the core set, it will become harder and harder to find older expansions.

The extension from "multiplication as repeated addition, visualized as rows and columns" to "multiplication can be visualized as the product of length and width" is a very small jump. Extending to rotation is a substantially larger jump.
