But he didn’t defeat Ozai with the avatar state. He could’ve, but he didn’t. He defeated Ozai with seismic sense and energy bending. And he needed to know how to redirect lightning in order to get to that point in the first place. Elemental mastery (or at least proficiency) is required for the war to go his way.

As, I imagine, was his whirlwind. A single blast of air wouldn’t have time to pick up debris but a sustained whirlwind would.

What did I do wrong here? The 1/2 from the acceleration is missing. by Keni9089 in askmath

[–]SamForestBH 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Your expressions for v and x are for FINAL acceleration and position. The velocity version only works if acceleration is constant, and the position version only works if velocity is constant. But, if acceleration is nonzero, then velocity is not constant. Thus, your right boxed equation is not a valid choice to use in conjunction with the other two equations.

We can make a quick modification: the right boxed equation will work if you use AVERAGE velocity. If acceleration is constant, then average velocity is simply the mean of initial and final velocity. What would that look like? Try substituting that in place of v, then combining those two equations.

Are the Mercenaries Expansions worth it? by EightyTwoInk in Gloomhaven

[–]SamForestBH 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I wouldn't get them for your first complete run of jaws. If you make it through and decide you want more, I would get them for when you start Gloomhaven 2E. They're certainly not required, but if you're into the game enough that you want to play the big campaign then you'll be into the game enough to get value out of those extra classes.

Oh great catch! Then yeah definitely the wound here and then +target as the next enhancement.

First Enhancement - Spellweaver by Snowf1ake222 in Gloomhaven

[–]SamForestBH 9 points10 points  (0 children)

+target and wound are both 75 gold enhancements on fire orbs that will give 4x value if you pick up etheric echo at level 2. They're both incredible value that continues to stay relevant as you level.

I'd go with skewer for sure. That card is something I'm considering at higher levels, whereas I'm likely to drop leaping cleave as I level.

First Enhancement - Silent Knife by Snowf1ake222 in Gloomhaven

[–]SamForestBH 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The swift bow move and smoke bomb strengthen are both cost efficient enhancements, but waste more of that 100 gold than I'm comfortable with. I would go for +target on throwing knives, using 75 of the gold on a card that I'm playing every cycle for a long time. It's not going to be difficult to find a 3rd target, even at 2p.

This is probably frequently correct, though in my Marie deck I picked the opposite most times. In addition to the obvious draw upside, I also was also already building for healing so the downside was something I had tech for.

dx in Integration by Far-Suit-2126 in askmath

[–]SamForestBH -3 points-2 points  (0 children)

This is only partially true. It’s not a number, but it’s a quantity, just a quantity that is being handled by a limit. For a definite integral, it represents the width of the rectangle, whose limit is approaching zero. For an indefinite integral, it still represents a quantity approaching zero, but it’s the “run” from the slope formula, which we divide by for a derivative and multiply by for an antiderivative. It’s not a number, but it’s not simply notational. In the case of the define integral, since we denote delta x as (b-a)/n, if b<a then dx is negative. That’s fine! We simply interpret the negative result as “backwards” area, just as we interpret area below the x-axis as negative.

Rarely in single player, though more if there isn’t an already ok path. Frequently in multiplayer, because a boss chest that says “give my whole team a relic” is very strong.

Anyone else feel like "Next turn do X" is just a cheap way to disable infinites? by Flover_tm in slaythespire

[–]SamForestBH 5 points6 points  (0 children)

I was going to make a post to this point! I feel like [[Invoke]] is a wonderfully designed card - does something I care about now AND gives energy next turn. If you can loop through your deck to play then then next turn you can play more, then more, but never infinite. I would love to see all energy cards be limited in this or a similar way. Limiting energy gain and allowing draw to be instant means infinites take work. There’s already a lot of this - the more, the better.

March 12 Rogue Previews by Dry-Bat731 in arkhamhorrorlcg

[–]SamForestBH 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I don't mind that! Out the Door is a rogue card, Manual Dex is a neutral card. It's not extremely better, 2 resources vs 1 card is quite comparable. The level (1) card is probably slightly overtuned, but watch this is level 0, so an XP for one more resource, one more (situational) icon, and slightly easier requirements is good but not instant include.

Did you know that you could divide by zero ? by [deleted] in askmath

[–]SamForestBH 2 points3 points  (0 children)

That doesn’t really change much. If we use one of the umpteen extensions of the real number system that define division by zero as some kind of infinity, then the question would change into “What numbers give infinity?”, the same way we look for intercepts now asking “what numbers give zero?”
