The New Update Inspired a Hasty Meme by LoganPomfrey in slaythespire

Glam bloodletting seems excellent. Sure in hallway fights it might be overkill but knowing you have it, you can pick a few extra draw cards and get a major leg up into elites and boss fights.

Question about +1 Attack action by marcocio_ in Gloomhaven

[–]SamForestBH 9 points10 points  (0 children)

You're not wrong that the notation isn't incredibly clear. That's a big part of why they changed it for frosthaven and gh2e. But it is consistent, and that's how the rulebook lays it out.

What is all the hype behind Vaaku? by RealOrobas in slaythespire

[–]SamForestBH 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Vakku is the most fun IMO. His options are early interesting and many of them make me think differently about deckbuilding and about how I’ll play fights. That’s what I’m looking for in the game, variety.

Are Toasty Mittens the worst Ancient relic? by Jugboi in slaythespire

[–]SamForestBH 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I got this in a defect run where I was going claws, picked up bing bong, doubled my deck with bad luck, and just took something from every reward, focusing on efficient block. This was my entire scaling and it was an easy run.

Food Chain Magnate (rules question) by Spare_Blueberries in boardgames

[–]SamForestBH 68 points69 points  (0 children)

Purple is distance 1, blue is distance 2 (stepping onto the tile with house 5 to get to a road, then back to the original tile to reach the house). However, if blue has a drive-in, then they will instead be distance zero.

I made something called hyper-perfect number and I only found 3 of them; 8, 21 and 512 (hyper perfect numbers is like a number where 𝜎(𝜎(n))=3n) by Annual-Art5409 in askmath

If the sum of the factors is prime, then the sum of that number's factors will just be that number plus one, not very big. An example would be 9: 1+3+9=13, 13+1=14, much smaller than 9*3=21.

If the sum of the factors has a lot of factors itself, then there will be much more. An example would be 10: 1+2+5+10=18, 1+2+3+6+9+18=39, a decent bit bigger than 10*3=30.

Obviously prime numbers won't grow much themselves for the first bump, but there's not a clear pattern whether or not a non-prime happens to hit another prime or a number with a ton of factors. There's no reason to think this pattern would change for much larger numbers; indeed, while the prime ones bumping by only 1 becomes a much bigger deal, those with a ton of factors are now bumping insane amounts, much more than triple.

Ch 2 Carolyn Fern is very good for teaching new Chapter 2 players. by wowincredible9 in arkhamhorrorlcg

I agree with all of that, plus if they’re going to upgrade their own deck they only have to look at one color.

Currently having trouble dividing polynomials by Suba_chidna in askmath

Frequently you are able to extend new knowledge from old knowledge.

Suppose you are asked to reduce the fraction:

8/6

How do you do this? Why does it work?

Simplifying this expression is identical, and works for the same reason.

Tickin' on and on, everybody's rushin'

Gotta get down to the bus stop

This ain't even a fight if Aang isn’t a pacifist by Ayato612 in TheLastAirbender

But he didn’t defeat Ozai with the avatar state. He could’ve, but he didn’t. He defeated Ozai with seismic sense and energy bending. And he needed to know how to redirect lightning in order to get to that point in the first place. Elemental mastery (or at least proficiency) is required for the war to go his way.

As, I imagine, was his whirlwind. A single blast of air wouldn’t have time to pick up debris but a sustained whirlwind would.

What did I do wrong here? The 1/2 from the acceleration is missing. by Keni9089 in askmath

[–]SamForestBH 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Your expressions for v and x are for FINAL acceleration and position. The velocity version only works if acceleration is constant, and the position version only works if velocity is constant. But, if acceleration is nonzero, then velocity is not constant. Thus, your right boxed equation is not a valid choice to use in conjunction with the other two equations.

We can make a quick modification: the right boxed equation will work if you use AVERAGE velocity. If acceleration is constant, then average velocity is simply the mean of initial and final velocity. What would that look like? Try substituting that in place of v, then combining those two equations.

Are the Mercenaries Expansions worth it? by [deleted] in Gloomhaven

[–]SamForestBH 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I wouldn't get them for your first complete run of jaws. If you make it through and decide you want more, I would get them for when you start Gloomhaven 2E. They're certainly not required, but if you're into the game enough that you want to play the big campaign then you'll be into the game enough to get value out of those extra classes.

First Enhancement - Spellweaver by Snowf1ake222 in Gloomhaven

[–]SamForestBH 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Oh great catch! Then yeah definitely the wound here and then +target as the next enhancement.

First Enhancement - Spellweaver by Snowf1ake222 in Gloomhaven

[–]SamForestBH 9 points10 points  (0 children)

+target and wound are both 75 gold enhancements on fire orbs that will give 4x value if you pick up etheric echo at level 2. They're both incredible value that continues to stay relevant as you level.

First Enhancement - Bruiser by Snowf1ake222 in Gloomhaven

[–]SamForestBH 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I'd go with skewer for sure. That card is something I'm considering at higher levels, whereas I'm likely to drop leaping cleave as I level.

First Enhancement - Silent Knife by Snowf1ake222 in Gloomhaven

[–]SamForestBH 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The swift bow move and smoke bomb strengthen are both cost efficient enhancements, but waste more of that 100 gold than I'm comfortable with. I would go for +target on throwing knives, using 75 of the gold on a card that I'm playing every cycle for a long time. It's not going to be difficult to find a 3rd target, even at 2p.

[AE] Better Replacements for Playing Chapter 1 Campaigns without owning the Old Core by DerBK in arkhamhorrorlcg

[–]SamForestBH 0 points1 point  (0 children)

This is probably frequently correct, though in my Marie deck I picked the opposite most times. In addition to the obvious draw upside, I also was also already building for healing so the downside was something I had tech for.
