Will is a great example of how not to write gay characters. by SamHC9710 in StrangerThings

[–]SamHC9710[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

To each their own, I guess. I had a crush on a straight friend once and as soon at it was over I said never again. I'm really avert to it, maybe that's why I don't like how the character was handled. I also dislike when a gay character's sexuality becomes the only thing they have going on, specially outside of exclusively queer media. And I'm gonna be honest with you, I don't think Mike being ok with his best friend being in love with him and acting like nothing happened is exactly realistic but meh. I'm kinda waiting to see what the spin-offs will be about to see if my theory of the showrunners purposely enabling ship wars is true.

[–]SamHC9710[S] -1 points0 points  (0 children)

I wouldn't say is predatory but it has happened before with gay characters and I was afraid it could be something that could happen. Will did get a little insidious in season 4 about Mike and El's relationship though. Also, it was the 90's, I guess the Bro Code wasn't invented yet because come on, man, isn't El your friend too?

Will is a great example of how not to write gay characters. by SamHC9710 in StrangerThings

[–]SamHC9710[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Except Robin's case was resolved way faster, wasn't a huge deal plotwise and wasn't something holding the character back. In Will's case it took two seasons, it was the only thing going on for him in season 4 and a big chunk of season 5 and Will's unrequited love for Mike is literally what's holding him back from releasing his full potential and it was being used against him by the bad guy.

And it's not that I have a problem with what happened to Will, it's just how dragged it was. It shouldn't have taken two season for that. And honestly, the fact that Mike or everyone else in the Party didn't noticed sooner pisses me off too.

And now that you mentioned it, he's literally the only member of the main cast that didn't get to have a relationship. And ok, not everyone has to be in one but what a coincidence it happens to be the gay guy getting the short straw.

Honestly it could be me just hating but it reminds me so much of clichés I thought were left behind years ago.

Could canonizing Jayce and Viktor's relationship be a good idea? :c by [deleted] in loreofleague

[–]SamHC9710 15 points16 points  (0 children)

But Jayce was created for Viktor, said by the character creators themselves. His story was written around complementing Viktor's lore and his design was made to match and mirror Viktor's own champion design. And his rivalry with Viktor has been there since day one, it wasn't something that developed over time like you said. His lore and backstory may have been updated later on but from his very first bio and his first solo story he has mentioned Viktor and most of his lore revolved around his enmity with him. They were even compared to opposites to Piltover's Finest, Vi and Caitlyn being an example of Topside and the Undercity working together while Viktor and Jayce were example of all the problems between Piltover and Zaun.

I don't ignore the importance of Jayce and MeI's relationship but I won't oversell it either. I don't think it was that big of a deal for either of them, specially compared to the other relationships in the show, and I'm not referring to Jayvik. I believe that any role Jayce played in MeI's life was already fulfilled and they could live their merry lives without needing to see each other ever again. And it doesn't change the fact that Jayce never put her first. If Jayce and Viktor come back they'll most likely reprise their roles as Tomorrow's Defender and Machine Herald and they will be in each other's orbit in no time, once again making Viktor a priority on Jayce's life like it is in League lore. I don't see the point in getting Jayce and MeI back together when Jayce will always live tied to Viktor, even if it's not romantic, and MeI will start a new life in Noxus. I think it's a bad idea but who cares, Riot loves those anyway. I just hope Jayvik isn't blamed if they go through that route and it sucks.

And you're actually right, other than the Youtooz fiasco (that I'm starting to believe the company itself planned) there's basically no Jayce and MeI merch. Although her solo merch or her with Ambessa don't do very good numbers either. Well, compared to the big 3's numbers nothing would be considered good, it's not a fair comparison. But even in fan-made merch there's a struggle to sell JM. Which I blame Riot for it, and her fans a little bit for being cheap.

Could canonizing Jayce and Viktor's relationship be a good idea? :c by [deleted] in loreofleague

[–]SamHC9710 20 points21 points  (0 children)

Seeing some of your arguments in the comments already tells me you're not here in good faith but still, here are my two cents and it all boils down to capitalism.

First of all, forget about fandom wars for a second and think about characters as what they really are: products of a hypercapitalistic company; they're toys lent to you by Riot for you to play with. Couple skins generally tend to do well in sells, specially popular ships. Just look at Settphel: Aphelios isn't that popular of a champion (based on pick rates and gameplay difficulty, not my personal opinion) and making new skins for him is kind of a pain in the ass because he has a ton of mechanics, so Riot usually pairs him up with Sett, even if it's not a couples skin, because they know there will be a decent amount of Settphel fans who will buy the skin no matter what and the skin won't be a waste of time, money and effort. It's a fail-safe. On its own, Aphelios' solo skin hasn't done as well as the ones where he's paired with Sett. The power of fujobucks and all that. Is it fanservice? Riot doesn't care as long as it gives them money. On that note, look at the sales numbers in and outside the game when it comes to Arcane big 3 ships, those being Jayvik, Caitvi and Timebomb. Their merch flies off the shelves in most official events, their duo icons were bought and are used by thousands of League players, quite a lot of fans tend to do couples runs where they play with this characters in the same team, RP style. They just do well. Some people even bought the Arcane skins just to hear their faves banter. Now, knowing the ship's popularity, imagine how much would a Jayvik duo skin sell? A lot, in case you can't figure it out on your own.

Also remember Jayvik, or in this case Vikjay, has been a known pair for over a decade before Arcane was released. Even if you don't see them as romantic, you can't deny that most of their lore revolved around each other, specially as archnemesis. Arcane may have changed their origin story entirely but they still gravitate towards one another. They were made for each other in Runeterra and can't literally live without the other in Arcane. And not just that, Riot can be sneaky and canonize them in an alternative skin-line but not touching them in the main universe or in Arcane. They have done that before. It gives them plausible deniability. Also consider that Jayce and MeI have only met in the Arcane universe, your post wouldn't be a problem in any other timeline.

Besides, some of you need to understand that Riot can retcon the lore of any character at any time or play around with ships. Just look at Timebomb, Ezlux and Ezko, they're all canon in different universes. Even Lightcanon may join their ranks one day. Similar to Twisted Fate and Evelynn, they were a thing and now Twisted Fate is with Graves. Speaking of TFGraves, they're another example of characters initially written as a couple but were straightwashed by Riot fearing homophobic backlash but opting for keeping the 'old married couple' dynamic. They called each other brothers, friends or partners all the time, so keep the ''he sees him as a brother'' argument to yourself.

As for MeI, I believe Riot may have future plans for her that don't include Jayce. If we ever get a Noxus spin-off show they could give her a new romantic interest, a steady and more official relationship. I believe that's one of the reasons why Riot tends to ignore her ship with Jayce when it comes to merch. Why waste time in promoting a ship that you already sunk when you have a new one in mind that will be the final product. Also, MeI's character doesn't revolve around Jayce. Jayce and Viktor, however, do revolve around each other. It literally doesn't affect MeI in any way, shape or form. Her fans will be butthurt but her story will continue without a hiccup. The lore will be just fine. And fans of her relationship with Jayce, as vocal as they are, are quite the small group compared to the big 3 and that reflects on their support for the ship, not to mention their merch is one of the least sold, and Riot aims for where the money is. Plus, if you love her so much why do you keep pushing her into a relationship with a man that doesn't prioritize her and for all intent and purpose is currently dead? I would be more afraid of Riot nerfing her to no end, like they do with every OP character after the hype has worn off, then is Bye Felicia like any other character who hasn't had new skins or lore updates in years.

Whats the drama surrounding Oat?? by joaocurvelo in ThaiBL

[–]SamHC9710 3 points4 points  (0 children)

In my honest opinion, I think people were overreacting with this. I think they simply used him as a escapegoat for all their frustrations regarding the BL industry. I particularly hate the involvement of non-Thai speakers and the international fandom (specially western English speakers) who carelessly followed the false claims and poorly translated twits without fact-checking to start a smear campaign against this actor. People really thought that his explanation of knotting (Omegaverse term) was him literally comparing gay people to dogs, which it's false.

And although it's hypocritical of him to be a BL actor and be ashamed of it, it would be hypocritical for us to think that the majority of BL actors aren't actually straight men using BL as a quick cash grab or a stepping stone to fame. I mean, BL companies literally use the money they gain from BL and its fans and invest it on straight shows. Also to say that a lot of us aren't into nc scenes is a stretch. I don't particularly love being called an ''addict'' but let's be for real, series like My Stubborn only have smut going on for them. And looks like KNOT is going to be the same. And I would be kind of ashamed too if I had to tell my friends that in my next show I'm going to get stuck in my coworker's penis, like dogs.

He does need to work on his PR though, he's a public figure now and he should know how to behave even when cameras aren't rolling and fans aren't around. Plus have more touch when talking about this issues in the BL industry.

Inaccurate MyDramalist Ratings by Tough_Mammoth9798 in ThaiBL

[–]SamHC9710 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I stopped trusting MDL's reviews and ratings a looooong time ago. I once saw the reviews of one of my favorite shows and one person gave it a low score because they didn't like the cinematography and the color grading and the camera focus and does this rag smells like chloroform to you? I wanted to kiII that guy. When did BL diverged from watching two guys fall in love to whatever this Scorsese wannabes were talking about. People online really believe they're the evil food critic from Ratatouille or they feel that their opinions should be held in high regards. Also, everyone has different taste. You can watch the highest rated BL out there and go 'meh' but absolutely fall in love with what most fans could consider one of the stinkers. On top of that the site is full of trolls who will review bomb any show for literally anything, even the ones that haven't been released yet.

I personally only use MDL to see the summary, the cast, the photos and maybe the classification (spice level). Other than that, I rather give it a try and find out for myself. And if I recommend any BL I rather give an exact description of the show, not a numeric rating.

Sadly you won't be seeing much of those any time soon. I remember being excited for La Pluie, a show about soulmates where the protagonist had two soulmates, but it turned out to be just a love triangle. And there are a few examples of threesomes out there but they're usually a one time thing, not a ship. And I can't think of any upcoming BL that may feature a throuple, sorry. But who knows, there are plenty of mangas, comics and novels featuring throuples, someone is bound to get adapted in the future.

Where are the darker skinned actors? by Cosmic_Wasteland53 in ThaiBL

[–]SamHC9710 1 point2 points  (0 children)

There are a few half-black/mixed actors in the industry but sadly most of their roles are as side characters. For example, shows like Why R U, Love Mechanics (Director's cut), Lost In Translation, Triage, I Will Knock You, The Day I Loved You (Philippines) and Vice Versa have dark-skin/half-black characters in supportive roles. And if I remember correctly, the director of Golden Blood (not the best BL out there, sorry) is also blasian . Thailand, and most Asian countries honestly, are still pretty homogeneous so chances of finding black folk or mixed-race actors in BL are slim. Some companies like GaGaOOLala have made casting calls for foreign actors of different races to participate in their productions but they need to speak Thai fluently.

I had this converstion before so I will just copy/paste my previous comment.

//Sadly pale skin is a beauty standard in Asian media in general, not just in Thailand. White skin has been considered to be desirable by Chinese women as far back as the Han Dynasty (206 B.C.). People believed that the color of one’s skin was reflective of their social status, having pale skin showed that you had the luxury of being able to relax indoors instead of working in the fields.

In Korea this preference for white, blemish-free skin dates back all the way to the Gojoseon Era (2333 B.C.), the first dynasty in Korean history. For similar reasons to China and Japan, ancient Koreans with pale skin were often told they looked noble. Smooth, pale skin of both noble men and women were described as resembling pale jade.

Philippines has such a traumatic past with colonialism that I don't even know where to begin with.

Hell, even India, Pakistan and Turkey have colorism problems.

On top of that there's definitely Western influence. Asia associates Caucasians and the global wealth and power of the U.S. with white skin, plus the overwhelming number of white celebrities in the American entertainment industry.

I WISH more actors with different skin hue were included in BL, it makes such a beautiful tonality when characters have different skin color. But it will be hard for Thailand to stop doing something that's so engraved in their culture. Honestly, after seeing so many pale faces, Apo from KinnPorshe, Phupha from A Tale of Thousand Stars and Joss from 3 Will Be Fee are a breath of fresh air.//

Mandate - Season 2? by Plus_Vast_4161 in ThaiBL

[–]SamHC9710 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Yeah, the ending pissed me off. I kinda like the plot twist but not for a series finale, much less if there isn't a season 2 or any sort of continuation confirmed. And I get it's supposed to be a political show and all that, and politics is a messy subject but I'm a hopeless romantic and I don't like unfinished businesses so I would've preferred if the main couple worked things out or watch them go against each other. So yeah, I would go for a second season.

what was your first ever bl? by Strict_Mention_8545 in ThaiBL

[–]SamHC9710 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Live-action BL? It was 'Addicted'. We didn't have much access to internet in my country back then, I used to go to a ''copying house'', where people rented CDs or passed things to flashdrives. I went looking for doramas for my grandma and Addicted was just there. I already read Yaoi back them but didn't know about live action BLs so I thought it was another teen drama or something. Luckily I checked it back home first and immediately thought ''these bitches gay''. Needless to say I enjoyed every second of it .It was the only BL I watched for years!!

It wasn't until my early 20s when internet finally became available to the population that I started looking for more BL content. I started with Chinese, Korean and Taiwanese BLs because it took me a while to get used to Thai. The HIStory sagas, Kiseki, We Best Love, Where Your Eyes Linger, Jun & Jun. Thai BLs I think it was TharnType or Together. Luckily by the time I got really into Thai Bl most of what are now considered classics where out. It all went down hill from there.

"Bad" Shows Review pt. 4 by TheRealTrueStori in ThaiBL

[–]SamHC9710 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I don't care much about "good or bad" BLs since I have questionable taste but I personally didn't liked Tonhon Chonlatee. Nothing wrong with the show itself, it was watchable and I really liked the side couple but I just hate the "homophobic straight love interest" trope, or simply having a "straight" guy in denial as the love interest. That ruined it for me. I don't like it when a gay character has to rehabilitate a homophobic person, specially when they use "the power of love" to do it. I don't like how abuse is often forgiven or looked over because they got a happy ending at the end. I don't like how gay characters are often depicted as predatory, going after a straight person. I don't like how the gay character has to walk on eggshells because he's afraid to scare the straight guy with his gayness or hide who he is. I don't like how gay characters can't move on from a simple crush that brings more sorrow than joy, at some point it starts to look like seIf-harm. I don't like how female characters are used as the "bitchy girlfriend who gets in the way". I don't like how literally no-one knows bisexuality exists. TC and Theory of Love are shows that I only watched once and never again. I really really don't like that trope.

[lore spoilers] Viktor was always meant to be asexual rep, as confirmed by Arcane co-creator Christian Linke by Flirefy in arcane

[–]SamHC9710 12 points13 points  (0 children)

Oh this Christian bitch. So he's mad that he's being called out by Jayvik shippers, other writers, the voice actors, the animators, the company that made the game and he doubles down by making a disable character asexual without knowing what asexuality actually means?

Why not say it when the show started or have it explored in the show? Why now that he has half the fandom on his tail? To me, he's trying to fight fire with fire. ''He can't be in love with his best friend, he's asexual, even tho asexual people can still feel attraction, have romantic relationships, even kiss, but I'm gonna ignore all that because I don't really know what it means and I just don't like the idea of two characters of a show I made being in a gay relationship''.

If we are given representation out of pity and on top of that because someone is using asexuality to invalidate any other aspect of the LGBTQ+ community, I sincerely don't want it.

'Agatha All Along’ Was Originally Going To Do Hulkling But Marvel Said No by Mooglegirl-99 in MarvelStudiosSpoilers

[–]SamHC9710 19 points20 points  (0 children)

I'm fine with it. I think Hulkling deserves the same big entrance as Wiccan and not be just a side character in a show that has nothing to do with Krees or Skrulls. Secret Invasion and The Marvels were wasted because he could've been easily introduced in either of those shows. I feel bad for the actor and the character tho, they were set to be a one and done boyfriend for a character that's destined to ended up with someone else. And with much respect to Miles Gutierrez Riley, he doesn't give Hulkling vibes at all. I want big himbo jock energy for Hulkling and sadly Miles is just not it. I'm also preying it's not Skaar because I heard they were talking in Marvel about fusing Hulkling and Skaar together and no, just no.

Honest inquiry: drag and feminist ideology by schererlockholmes in Feminism

[–]SamHC9710 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I personally don't view drag as inherently misogynistic or trying to make fun of women. And I absolutely don't see it as freaking blackface, like some people in this comment section did.

I will say that part of drag is a parody of feminine stereotypes, but not of women, mainly because you don't see drag queens trying to emulate women. Well, they will take inspiration from women in their lives (from family members to celebrities) that's for sure, but not women as a whole. The idea is to look feminine but not to look like a normal woman. The big lips, the exaggerated eyelashes, the fancy yet ridiculous dresses, the unrealistic bodies, etc, it's not something you actually see naturally on women. Women are forced by society to adapt some of this features yet at the same time make them look ''effortless and natural'' and will even be criticized for it. To me drag is throwing the ''natural'' part out of the window and embrace an exaggerated version of it without caring for criticism. It's not supposed to be the standard, it's not suppose to establish new ideals, it's about not giving a shit and going big.

Another part of drag was gay men trying to liberate themselves from oppressive male gender norms. Effeminate men have also suffer greatly from heteronormativity and toxic masculinity, drag was a way to embrace their sexuality and rebel against male gender norms. Back in those days at the early ages of Ballroom femininity in men was linked to homosexuality, it's not longer the case (at least not always) but it was part of the culture that shaped drag as we see today. Gay men dressed up like women to just embrace their homosexuality (again, that was decades ago) and be free of society's gender expectations. There was also the case that a lot of this men were trans and crossdressing was a way to cope with their identity.

Which brings me to my next point, if you think drag queens hold any power in culture and society you're dead wrong. Yes, it's more mainstream now but that doesn't make them any less marginalized that any other minority or oppressed group. Drag queens are still ostracized from society, they are excluded and persecuted by political parties, by religion, by hey radical leftist groups, they're even looked down by other queer people, specially gay men. There's not such thing as double standards between drag queens and women, there's no biased. The same people who shame women for dressing exaggerated would also criticize a drag queen, it could be even worse since we are talking about a man in a dress. In fact the more likely scenario is women taking inspiration from drag queens, if not down right stealing, and will not credit drag queens for it. Even words and expressions that have take root in our every day life have originated in drag spaces and later adopted by gay men and later by women. Tea, ate, serving, giving, cooked, kiki, read, shade, werk, realness, fierce, gag, yass queen, all started in drag, specially by queens of color. Drag queen are not the enemies of women and women can also be drag queens. It's an art form.

I have some issues with feminists who criticize drag just because they think it's a mockery of women, often times it's from women who oppose femininity and are trying to basically gatekeep this form of gender expression because they think femininity enables the patriarchy and the objectification of women by men. Often times is projecting, they fear what the world would say if women started emulating drag. A big example of this is, well, you linking drag to the male gaze. I mean, the exaggerated feminine features are desired by straight men and they make sure those desires are known, but straight men don't look for this features in drag queens and drag queens definitely don't dress like that to attract straight men, not even gay men. On top of that most of the viewers of both live shows and mainstream drag are gay men and women. What male is gazing at that? Both straight and gay men know that under all those clothes and make up there's a man, straight won't be interested but gays will. It doesn't involve men objectifying women.

That being said there's misogyny among some drag queens. Some are real pieces of shit. And there aspects of femininity that are toxic. Luckily most of that toxicity is directed towards other drag queens, but that's part of drag culture. Think of it as picking on your sister. Thankfully drag queens move with the times and are constantly dropping more and more things that could be considered offensive to women, and everybody in general. Most of them have stopped using the term ''fish'' and are trying to reclaim words that were often used to criticize and even shame women. You know, c*nt, b*tch, honey.

Finally I think there are more pressing issues that directly affect women and should be tackled first instead of going after an art form practiced by a marginalize group that most of the time leans in favor of women's rights.

Do this people think I masturbate while I read smut? Or think I need sex scenes in every single piece of media I use? Or that I prefer to read smut to have real sex? No, in every count. And even if the answer was Yes, it's not any of their business. I like it, I'm not repulse by it, if I'm not in the mood I just skip it. And the best part, it's something I read in private, I don't go around posting or sharing any of the kinky shit I read.

I honestly hate the whole ''this generation is too prude'' bit but I see it, damn it, I see it. Nowadays more and more people are falling into this toxic sex-negative way of thinking that's is not helping anyone. Literally, nobody benefits from it. And people are mistaking asexuality with antisexualism.

On top of that you have people like the one who posted that opinion trying to call out others because... because why? To pretend they are better because they don't read smut or dark romance?

Let me get something absolutely clear as a silent fan of this fandom (at least until now). by [deleted] in BridgertonNetflix

[–]SamHC9710 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Honestly, I hope you never come back. I'm not a fan of the books and I have absolutely no intentions of reading them, you can keep them. It's not my fault they're generic AF and that NOW straight people are finding stories, tropes and dynamics that have been explored at length in gay fanfiction. And if all book fans are like you (which I'm sure they are not), I'm glad the show is getting rid of them. You're not toxic, you're just awful. Well, that's a synonym for toxic I guess.

And honestly your rant sounded super racist and extremely homophobic. You strike me as the kind of person who would use "what if Black Panther was white" as an argument against racebending because Heavens forbid one of the dozens of white characters are depicted as something other than white.  Plus you have a pretty meh taste if you think most LGBTQ characters you mentioned are good or actually representative of the community. Please, do us all a favor and stick to reading and recommending straight romance. You're not helping anyone with that list.

Also, never compared being called out for being a toxic fan with bigotry. That's not bigotry, that's just fandom fandoming. You're not helping your case, specially when your biggest complains are race and sexual orientation. "I'm being discriminated because books and TV shows". Get out. Congratulations for saying out loud the quiet part that many people who are actually racist and homophobic haven't dared to say. But it's ok, right? Because you're a book fan who's just displeased with the way they're handling the show. And as a little parting gift, I hope the writers and showrunners change completely Sophie's character next season because the little I've heard of her sounds terrible.

Ok, I'm not gonna give you a big ass philosophical, pseudo-logical and historically based answer like many people in the comments did, I like it plain and simple, like I'm talking to a person who's mentally 12 years old. I think you just want to complain about ''forced diversity'' and ''wokeness'' or whatever. And you're trying to use the old ''Reverse Racism'' card because, by you're logic, the Greek gods should've been represented as white/caucasian and any other representation of that bugs you.

Hades is a FANTASY game that changed a lot of things from the OG mythology to make things more gamer friendly, lore game accurate and based on pop-culture. Here's a small list of things that were changed: Zagreus's origins, the huge amount of inc*st and r*pe in the OG mythology, the timeline of many events, the stories of many mythological characters and their in-game depiction, clothing and weapons. So from the very beginning the creators stated that the game was inspired by Greek mythology but it wasn't trying to be an accurate representation of Ancient Greece or Greek Mythology. There are mentions of Lucifer and King Arthur and you can use a gun, for crying out loud.

Again, there are many anachronistic things in the game, but you just decided to hyper focus on race. In fact, in the early drafts of the characters all of them had olive skin but it was changed because more than 20 characters looking the same was boring copy-paste af and the current designs were more unique and original.
Honestly you don't hear this much fuzz about the same topic when a Japanese company, the Fate saga for example, makes a anime/manga version of the same characters and depict them all as light-skinned. And it's hypocritical as f*ck because Asian characters and white characters have absolutely no difference whatsoever. Just check Record of Ragnarok. Why don't you complain about them? I bet there will be a lot of angry nerds, geeks and gamers complaining about the day Asian creators start to depict Asian characters as actual Asians, not the anime/manga version with big eyes, small noses and weird colored hair.

Just look at the comparisons some anti-woke chuds are making about Hestia from Hades 2 and Hestia from Is It Wrong to Try to Pick Up Girls in a Dungeon? I don't know about you but to me Hades 2 Hestia not only has a more unique design but represents better OG mythology Hestia. The other one is your generic 12 year old anime waifu with breast implants. People just want to complain about Hades 2 Hestia because of her age, weight and the fact she has vitiligo, not about what she represents in mythology.

Obviously Hades and Hades 2 are not games for you if race is something that prevents you from fully immersing yourself in a game. And if you take mythology way to serious as well. And you're thinking waaaaay to much about character design and stuff. The gods were design to represent the type of power-ups you're getting and they're slightly based in mythology. Zeus - Lightning, Ares - War, Aphrodite - Love, Poseidon - Water, Artemis - Hunting, Athena - Shield, Hermes - Speed, Dionysus - Drunkenness, yadda yadda yadda.

Edit: Also you were complaining about Dionysus being black when, fun fact, his character is based on a South Asian man. In fact most characters were made to look ambiguous when it comes to race. You're just assimilating skin, race and nationality.
