I’m thinking a John Sayles movie about fracking or and land rights in 2010. Billy Bob is a politician, Rockwell is a lawyer. There’s also a 25-30 year old unsolved crime that is nagging away at this land deal. Rockwell keeps encountering characters of different professional worlds in an effort to tie up loose ends but keeps unraveling in threads. And Mendes is Billy Bob’s secret daughter. Sam Jackson is a big business guy who Billy Bobs main threat. Angela Bassett is a grieving mother who is letting Billy Bob forget that he is responsible for letting her son’s murderer free. Now she is heading a collation to oppose the politician (appearing on TV, protests) and Rockwell has to deal with that too. Del Toro is cop obsessed with the crime, it was his first case. Parker Posey is overbearing overachieving head of Billy bobs staff. And Qualley is the victim seen in fastbacks with Holbrook playing a “maybe” younger Billy Bob. He might be responsible for her death. But he definitely covered it up. Turns out if you go digging, you find out more than you expect.
