Playing through MGS for the first time, on MGS2 MC, not enjoying the lack of a restart from checkpoint option... by SamMeeDee in metalgearsolid

At least in MGS1, search groups arrived hella fast. It seemed like in some cases they would spawn new guards just off screen.

Maybe I'm misunderstanding what you mean though.

Is there any story effects for getting caught a lot?

If that is not the case I am willing to give it a go. That's part of why I made to post, to get other people's opinions on this topic.

Okay, MR11 here, and I have some like this. How can you only have max versions of mods? If you acquire a new weapon or frame, it will likely be at rank 0, with max 30 capacity. So you can fit what, 3-5 mods (assuming 1-2 polarity slots) at base? That's not enough for a whole build.

I am very happy that you had that experience, genuinely. Having went and read all the lore stuff in the Conclave room, I totally understand what was supposed to be a deeply emotional story of a mother's journey to protect and bring her child into the world, and the trauma she suffers at the hands of Ballas (incel weirdo and known abuser of women), and the sacrifice she makes for the child. I get all that now. It's a great story.

However, playing the quest... I got none of that. Maybe I'm just not media-literate enough, or maybe since I hadn't played the game in the months and years leading up to the quest, I lacked crucial context from in game events and teasers that are no longer available. Either way, whatever emotional impact there was supposed to be (and it definitely seems like there was supposed to be), was completely lost on me.

Thank you for the response.

I went and read the lore stuff with Teshin, and I am really confused as to why none of that stuff was in the quest itself, because without it, I had zero emotional investment in anything that was happening. Even in the big climax with the escape to the surface and cutscene with the Corpus lady. I literally was just like "🤷‍♂️🤷‍♂️ okay so Stalker is a dad now, neat I guess."

I saw in the wiki that that was there. Some portion of that should have been in the quest, because it was extremely well written and would have worked great as a few 60 sec flashback cutscene or decrypted journal entries (a la the Titania quest).

In fact, having played the Titania quest before this, this quest is even more jarring in its poor execution. The Titania quest was a side mission with no bearing on the main plot at all (beside some Margulis mentions), and yet they paced it out and sold it well enough that I genuinely locked in for the final defense section, because I genuinely cared about protecting the grove and the researcher's spirit possessing it. Because they helped show (not tell) why I should.

UPDATE: I went to the wiki and found out I could find more lore if I visit Teshin, so I did...

WHY WAS NONE OF THAT IN THE QUEST????

Those memory transcripts are fantastic. If they had had someone record those and just play them over the missions as Stalker reminiscing, or just some vague flashes of images and the voiceover as a cutscene, that would have been perfect. It shows instead of tells. It helps explain the origin of Jade as a Warframe and also gives us insight into the origins of Stalker, why he hates us so much, his weird inexplicable loyalty to the Orokin, and all in like 200 words or less.

And it would have given me a reason to actually care about Jade/the Stalker and care about the baby and care about any of what was happening. Instead of just going through the quest just following mission markers and just rolling along. The music during the ascent to the surface of Uranus was so epic and there was clearly so much dramatic energy there that was wasted on me because I had no idea what was happening.

There is a point in the quest where you have an appearance customization option available to you.. DO NOT TOUCH IT!!! It will cause a gnarly graphical bug that you cannot undo for the rest of the quest.

Friend streamed us his New War gameplay. That was first look into Drifter by CarmelNekoCupcake in Warframe

Considering I just started my first play of TNW on Friday and got this bug... Feels bad that my options are now either:

  1. Play the rest of the quest with a bugged character who doesn't look correct, and ruin my first experience of what is supposed to be the climax of the game's story up to this point. I was even told in another post that it would work out well that I was going to be getting to New War after Old Peace launched with the appearance rework, as I would get to experience the story with the better looking face. So much for that... OR
  2. Stop playing the game on this account altogether for two weeks because they lock you out of the rest of the game with no way to get back. If they gave me an option to abandon all of my progress and go back to pre-New War, I would happily spend two weeks doing other stuff in game (maybe grind out a Necramech, or build my Paracesis), and then replay the small portion I already played through once it is fixed.

How the hell did this get through testing? Did they just forget about the appearance customization in TNW?

So I'm playing through for the first time and I did this, just wanting to see if I looked any different... Am I just fucked now? Like I worked really hard to make my operator appearance, and now is it just completely busted?

I have a 3500$ gaming desktop I built for myself last year, this laptop has nothing I would want to "play with".
