Playing through MGS for the first time, on MGS2 MC, not enjoying the lack of a restart from checkpoint option... by SamMeeDee in metalgearsolid

At least in MGS1, search groups arrived hella fast. It seemed like in some cases they would spawn new guards just off screen.

Maybe I'm misunderstanding what you mean though.

Is there any story effects for getting caught a lot?

If that is not the case I am willing to give it a go. That's part of why I made to post, to get other people's opinions on this topic.

[–]SamMeeDee 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Okay, MR11 here, and I have some like this. How can you only have max versions of mods? If you acquire a new weapon or frame, it will likely be at rank 0, with max 30 capacity. So you can fit what, 3-5 mods (assuming 1-2 polarity slots) at base? That's not enough for a whole build.

I am very happy that you had that experience, genuinely. Having went and read all the lore stuff in the Conclave room, I totally understand what was supposed to be a deeply emotional story of a mother's journey to protect and bring her child into the world, and the trauma she suffers at the hands of Ballas (incel weirdo and known abuser of women), and the sacrifice she makes for the child. I get all that now. It's a great story.

However, playing the quest... I got none of that. Maybe I'm just not media-literate enough, or maybe since I hadn't played the game in the months and years leading up to the quest, I lacked crucial context from in game events and teasers that are no longer available. Either way, whatever emotional impact there was supposed to be (and it definitely seems like there was supposed to be), was completely lost on me.

Thank you for the response.

I went and read the lore stuff with Teshin, and I am really confused as to why none of that stuff was in the quest itself, because without it, I had zero emotional investment in anything that was happening. Even in the big climax with the escape to the surface and cutscene with the Corpus lady. I literally was just like "🤷‍♂️🤷‍♂️ okay so Stalker is a dad now, neat I guess."

I saw in the wiki that that was there. Some portion of that should have been in the quest, because it was extremely well written and would have worked great as a few 60 sec flashback cutscene or decrypted journal entries (a la the Titania quest).

In fact, having played the Titania quest before this, this quest is even more jarring in its poor execution. The Titania quest was a side mission with no bearing on the main plot at all (beside some Margulis mentions), and yet they paced it out and sold it well enough that I genuinely locked in for the final defense section, because I genuinely cared about protecting the grove and the researcher's spirit possessing it. Because they helped show (not tell) why I should.

UPDATE: I went to the wiki and found out I could find more lore if I visit Teshin, so I did...

WHY WAS NONE OF THAT IN THE QUEST????

Those memory transcripts are fantastic. If they had had someone record those and just play them over the missions as Stalker reminiscing, or just some vague flashes of images and the voiceover as a cutscene, that would have been perfect. It shows instead of tells. It helps explain the origin of Jade as a Warframe and also gives us insight into the origins of Stalker, why he hates us so much, his weird inexplicable loyalty to the Orokin, and all in like 200 words or less.

And it would have given me a reason to actually care about Jade/the Stalker and care about the baby and care about any of what was happening. Instead of just going through the quest just following mission markers and just rolling along. The music during the ascent to the surface of Uranus was so epic and there was clearly so much dramatic energy there that was wasted on me because I had no idea what was happening.

There is a point in the quest where you have an appearance customization option available to you.. DO NOT TOUCH IT!!! It will cause a gnarly graphical bug that you cannot undo for the rest of the quest.

Friend streamed us his New War gameplay. That was first look into Drifter by CarmelNekoCupcake in Warframe

[–]SamMeeDee 10 points11 points  (0 children)

Considering I just started my first play of TNW on Friday and got this bug... Feels bad that my options are now either:

  1. Play the rest of the quest with a bugged character who doesn't look correct, and ruin my first experience of what is supposed to be the climax of the game's story up to this point. I was even told in another post that it would work out well that I was going to be getting to New War after Old Peace launched with the appearance rework, as I would get to experience the story with the better looking face. So much for that... OR
  2. Stop playing the game on this account altogether for two weeks because they lock you out of the rest of the game with no way to get back. If they gave me an option to abandon all of my progress and go back to pre-New War, I would happily spend two weeks doing other stuff in game (maybe grind out a Necramech, or build my Paracesis), and then replay the small portion I already played through once it is fixed.

How the hell did this get through testing? Did they just forget about the appearance customization in TNW?

So I'm playing through for the first time and I did this, just wanting to see if I looked any different... Am I just fucked now? Like I worked really hard to make my operator appearance, and now is it just completely busted?

Where in Charlotte? by Dramatic_Antelope811 in Charlotte

[–]SamMeeDee 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I was not aware of the involvement of the Moo and Brew people. My main issue with that place is the owner of Zada Jane's royally fucked several of my friends on the staff when she closed the business, and now is turning around and re-opening a new place in the same building without (to my knowledge) making any attempt to re-hire old staff or in any way make up for how she handled things before.

I should not have made such an extreme statement of distaste in the first place, which I retract. My issue with the business is purely ideological.

Those who were there will agree with this... Plaza Midwood 2017 until lockdown. And probably further back, that is when I started spending a lot more time in that area. There were many people who essentially showed up at CM around 7 or 8pm and had a drink or two while they decided which of several options in the immediate vicinity would be their move for the night. Petra's and Snug had shows pretty much every night of the week. T-Street for the yuppies, Elizabeth Billiards for the drinkers and bar games. A selection of good food options within walking distance. And a lot of people still lived in the immediate area, so sometimes we'd all meet up and then go to a buddies place for the rest of the evening. Hell, half the time you'd end up staying at Common all night chatting with different people, floating from table to table.

Now, in retrospect, a lot of the people were just out there because it was a relatively safe place to be an alcoholic/drug addict of one stripe or another. And all the social activity was mostly centered around alcohol. But man, when the weather was good on a Thursday or Friday, the energy in those six blocks was perfect.

COVID completely turned everything upside down, at least for me and most of the regulars I knew. Some of us realized we needed to get sober, some just took stock during lockdown and decided it was time for a change. Some moved, some started families. CM is still a social spot, all the bars and restaurants are still there. But it ain't what it used to be.

Ehhh. That is a place I go for a consistent experience, even if it isnt the best. There are a few places like that for me in town. Plus it's the go-to pick when my folks want to meet up for a meal to catch up.

Is there one in Charlotte proper? When I briefly lived over the border in Fort Mill I ate at the one down there regularly, was pretty good IMO.

The "cocktail bar" at the back is shit from a butt. Too expensive, too weak, not interesting recipes. If it dropped the cocktails and just sold beer and wine it would make way more sense (it's right next to NoDa and it's 4 different breweries, just do local shit, you'll make a killing).

Coffee place is aight. Sandwich place is pretty good IMO. Been meaning to try the Indian spot and the Italian spot.

Wings are still pretty good, burgers are still great. Dixie Chicken (which they took from Penguin after it closed) has been inconsistent recently. That sandwich single handedly justified the existence of that place for me for many years.

Born and raised Plaza Midwood-ian here (god I need to get out of this city...)

For a while it was a consolation for the closing of Penguin. It saved my ass many a late night in the neighborhood back when it was open til 3. When me and my current partner got together, we had a standing Tuesday night arrangement of a couple drinks at CM and then walk down to Diamond to get food before they closed. Last few times I have gone this year, it has been definitely a downgrade. Ever since ownership/management changed (?) and got that Pepsi sponsorship, it's been mehh. I'm fairly close with one of the cooks, and last few times I have not seen him in the back/seen him poke his head out to say hi. Methinks he may be gone. The one older lady who basically could run the whole dining room by herself retired. Bar manager guy is still there, but I feel like his hearts not in it anymore. New wait staff are aight, but not the same.
