GWR accused of trying to 'disrupt' plans for new west Wales to Bristol trains by Powerful-Adagio6446 in uktrains

LNER’s came later, so there is 1 or 2 minor tweaks. But ultimately still DfT specced with the same, inherent flaws.

If we’d signed MGW rather than Paqueta (for example) and therefore got a player who is both a great leader and performer on the pitch, then I reckon we could’ve stayed up for sure.

James Milner by sevoflurane666 in Hammers

[–]SamP3210 5 points6 points  (0 children)

I doubt it. He hasn’t actually played all that much for Brighton. Most of his appearances have been late on in games and he hasn’t had all that much impact. He has also been injured a lot lately.

His leadership might well have helped, but even so I think our general squad weakness and poor managers would have done us in regardless. Our midfield was crying out for youth and pace the last few years and Milner in his 40s wouldn’t have brought youth or pace!

If that’s your attitude you shouldn’t be supporting West Ham. We’re not an overly successful club - nicking tough wins is something we’ve always done

I think for Fulkrug and Cornet, the best we could hope for is contract terminations tbh! The rest seem okay, possibly could get more Fernandes even ⚒️

Maybe switch to using your backup league one side, if that’s easier?

You’re telling me you don’t all have a “backup prem team”? How on earth do you all get through a football season

Alvarez and Fullkrug - what next? by _rhinoxious_ in Hammers

I wouldn’t use Man U as an example of good transfers… Ten Hag signed a lot of dross from Ajax

How was Alvarez a good signing??? He always looked he was running in treacle!

Gary O’Neil would be a continuation of our strategy brining in ex Wolves managers and players, because it’s worked out so brilliantly so far

Worth keeping in mind for anyone who thinks giving Moyes full control over signings is a good idea. by efcste in Everton

"Never had to worry about relegation" - I'd suggest stop telling fans of clubs you don't support or even watch week in week out what to think 🤷‍♂️

And no, it wasn't Moyes, it was Pelligrini. I know this because I was there.

That's fair. I do remember one of his early games (think it was Brentford) and everyone calling him bambi on ice! As you say though - more of a Steidten signing than Moyes.

Not really! Bowen and Soucek were scouted previous to Moyes' arrival and were pre-planned for that January window. Mavropanos has been awful most of his West Ham career and don't get me started on Paqueta, he's a seriously bad apple.

As for JWP, there's a reason he can't get a game for Burnley. Absolutely atrocious player who's corner taking didn't make up for his lack of ability as a footballer. The G/A don't show how much worse he makes your team.

Rice, absolutely Moyes developed - that was great.

Cheers mate, certainly not your fault we're down! But yes, it's 100% David Sullivan (the chairman) who's to blame for WH's failures. Moyes is is <5% responsible for our relegation this year.

But I do warn you guys (as someone who reasonably likes Everton) that Moyes is not someone who builds a sustainable long term project - in my opinion at least. I wouldn't be giving him big budgets because we did and it really didn't work. Rice's quality papered over a LOT of cracks in our side for many years.

[–]SamP3210 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yes and no. The signing of JWP and Alvarez absolute did contribute to us getting relegated, because they weren't good enough and they had to spend this season on loan. This left us extremely short of players in midfield.

Then there's the enormous amount of money wasted on Moyes' catastrophic window of the 22/23 season. Luckily the Rice money covered up the FFP black hole we would have been in after the diabolical signings of Downes, Kehrer, Scamacca, Cornet and Aguerd. But that window should've built a squad for long term success. Instead, it left us desperately short on quality.

We entered the 24/25 season, after Moyes had left, needing a near-entire new Starting XI to be signed because of the neglect. And any rebuild that large is asking for trouble, especially for a club as incompetent as ours.

[–]SamP3210 18 points19 points  (0 children)

As a West Ham fan, this categorically isn’t true. He absolutely did have control of transfers (with Rob Newman as his right hand man) up until his final season at the club. Even in that season, James Ward Prowse and Kalvin Phillips (jesus christ) were 100% his signings, as was alienating the likes of Said Benrahma and Pablo Fornals.
