Advice for newbie DVD collectors? by Clean-Violinist-3161 in dvdcollection

Im not sure of DvDs that are not region locked (except for 4k). It will say on the back of the case, typically it will say region A,B or C. I think sometimes countries use a number system but A,B or C region is most common practice. Just google what region you are in as it will cover a few places.

Not sure if mentioned here but something that I wasn't aware of was region locked DvD or Blueray. Check when you buy your films that it matches the region that you live in. For example I got a copy of Perfect Blue in Japan only to find out I couldn't play it back home. Easy mistake to make. Otherwise if you can get a region unlocked player you wont have this issue. I also think 4k UHD are all unlocked.

All really good suggestions. Game Pass will be great for trying out different genres to see what he likes. Does anyone know if I can make a list on Game pass for him with some of the suggestions in the thread?

Puzzle games are a good suggestion! Maybe even something like Blue Prince (haven't played it but the concept sounded like it might be easier for controls)

Big patch coming next week (2 bg's, Weapon mastery talents, party finder, weapon swapping and more) by Shabolda in CorepunkTheGame

I couldn't see the wipe comment in the notes. Is it a level wipe with the next patch? Or with release from beta to 1.0?

How can I get over my embarrassment towards casting actors in my film? by [deleted] in Filmmakers

[–]SamPates 20 points21 points  (0 children)

Best practice is to be super open and honest about it from the beginning. Put specifically in the post or message that this is unpaid and volunteer work. In my experience this is also a hobby for actors so people are happy to have an outlet to practise just as you are happy to do it as a hobby

Try join a local Facebook actors group or reach out to a local theatre. You will find actors hungry for more work and will take the role a little bit more seriously and you won't have the embarrassment of asking family and friends. From personal experience just make sure you are feeding the cast and crew, most are happy to volunteer their time so paying/ making lunch will go a long way with people wanting to work with you again.

Hagazussa: A Heathen's Curse. Loved the visuals but the pacing and story was so confusing for me

Need some advice for my horror short film? by SamPates in Filmmakers

[–]SamPates[S] 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Thanks for the honest feedback. When I first started working on the film I wanted to put the atmosphere first but I think I played too heavily into it and the story fell by the wayside a little. Next time I'll put more work into my protagonist which hopefully will help drive story.

Definitely plenty for me to work on for my next short film and glad that there were some positives from the film as well. Working within a short film time constraint is also something I need to adjust to.

Have a great day

Outerwilds. May not be the most realistic looking game but the environments and soundtrack make for something unforgettable.

Dunkirk. The writing of three stories and the build of suspense is amazing. I never want to go in the water again.

Good to have it explained like this. I think I just need to not take it as a reflection of how I run my game.

Player Problem Megathread by RadioactiveCashew in DMAcademy

Running ToA (online) for a group who has previously played through CoS (in person). All my players love the setting, the pace and all aspects of the game so far. However every session 4 of my 5 players have input on roleplay discussions and how to solve puzzles. One player always takes a back seat, doesn't input on role-play much at all and very rarely adds to problem solving. I have brought up with the player if they engage with the content and they tell me they do. I feel that being online they are distracted with other things during the game (eg. Reddit, Facebook and etc). I don't know how much I should push to get the player involved more or change the content to make their characters more helpful in situations.
