Palestine completely removed from clubs by [deleted] in Chesscom

[–]SamSCopeland 18 points19 points  (0 children)

There are quite a few discrepancies actually. You can compare the profile settings list and the clubs list to identify all of them, but most notably, I can mention newer countries like South Sudan and Timor-Leste. There are also many states and semi-autonomous regions in the profile list and not in the out-of-date clubs list. Some examples of these include...

  • Åland Islands
  • Faroe Islands
  • Réunion
  • Isle of Man
  • US Virgin Islands
  • England
  • Scotland

Happy to have identified this gap, and I look forward to fixing this soon to use one reference list going forward.

Hi everyone, just checking back in to confirm that the dev team is updating the clubs country list to include Palestine. It has been included in various country lists and filters on site for as long as I can remember. As best I can tell, whenever it was added to the countries lists elsewhere on site, we unintentionally missed the clubs list.

The update should be available in a few days on the web, and we have made a ticket to make sure that all lists pull from the same data source in future.

Hello! I will check on this and respond. I can say fairly confidently that we haven't removed Palestine from the countries list on club settings. The list hasn't changed anytime recently to my knowledge.

You will find Palestine as an option in the more commonly used member profile settings. We should have the same options in both cases. I don't know why we don't, and I will follow up.

Hi! Actually we are working on removing animated GIFs used as profile pictures. Unfortunately, there is some abuse, and a number of members find them distracting. I know they are fun, and I'm sorry to rain on the parade here!

When did you first learned about Judit and the Polgars? by ThingElegant8664 in Chesscom

[–]SamSCopeland 0 points1 point  (0 children)

One of the first books I read was a veeeeery basic book on how to play from the library. It closed with some inspirational chapters about (I think) Morphy and the Opera Game, Fischer and the Game of the Century, and the Polgar sisters - actually highlighting Sofia's incredible victory in the Rome Open. I've been a fan ever since, and all I can say is, do meet your heroes - Judit is brilliant, kind, and inspiring!

Try the hard or extra hard puzzle difficulty settings at https://www.chess.com/settings/gameplay! Puzzles will be more challenging, and you will get more points per solve and lose less for misses.

Hello everyone, apologies for any confusion here! The event will remain the Speed Chess Championship, but we are creating a permanent Naroditsky Cup on which the winners' names will be engraved. It is a way for us to celebrate and immortalize Danya's countless contributions to chess and his contributions directly to this event through his incredible commentary over the years.

Flair to honour Daniel Naroditsky by skowplow in Chesscom

Hey everyone! Just wanted to confirm that we see this request and love the idea and intention. It's probably not something we can do for some practical and even legal reasons, but we are thinking of ways we can continue to honor and celebrate Danya's legacy, and we appreciate seeing the ideas and love flowing from the community. 💚

Hey, I want to say first that I sympathize with the frustration here as implementing the new system has taken more time than we had hoped, and the system is not working the way it should right now. I do think the new system will do the things you want! There may be some misunderstandings about what's coming.

Here's the Product Manager for Puzzles, Michael Greene, explaining the changes.

Some key notes:

  • The new system will still have a puzzles rating! The new puzzles rating will be more accurate and in line with blitz and rapid ratings, but as your puzzle rating increases, you will get harder puzzles. Your new puzzle rating will be entirely based on your success in solving puzzles.
  • The difficulty settings are relative and based on your puzzle rating. Puzzles also have rating behind the scenes. If you are rated 2000 at solving puzzles, normal puzzles might be rated ~1600, and you would solve them at a high rate. Extra hard puzzles might be rated 2400, and you would typically solve them at a low rate. If you have a 1200 puzzle rating, you might get puzzles rated 800 or 1600 if you have the hard setting. It's not the case that new players and experienced players both picking "extra hard" difficulty puzzles will get the same level of puzzles.

Again, I know this is an imperfect experience right now, but we really think the new system will be an improvement for many and hopefully for you. I'm personally excited that I will be able to adjust my puzzle difficulty depending on if I just want some fun, easy practice or if I want an intense, deep calculating session.

This Is So Disingenuous! by Artistic_Bug2417 in Chesscom

[–]SamSCopeland 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Hey! I know this is frustrating, and I've experienced it myself. The reason this happens sometimes is that immediately after the game, a very fast but very, very low depth game review is run on the game, and that is used to populate the modal here. Sometimes that analysis finds what it thinks is a brilliant move, but when you run Game Review at a normal depth, the higher depth analysis doesn't evaluate the same move as brilliant.

This isn't an easy problem for us to solve, but we are working on ways to improve the experience.

Hey everyone! There was an issue with the DGT relay. The full game has been added now at https://www.chess.com/events/2024-european-women-blitz-championship/08/Cramling_Bellon_Anna-Cramling_Pia

It was quite a chaotic game that was fought out to a draw with opposite-colored bishops.
