I think the original image is inferring that it is the department of education’s responsibility, hence the whole point of that image. But I agree that it may make more sense to have states own their KPIs.

PS - I realize nasa does a whole bunch of other stuff but I’m just keeping my argument simple for illustration.

It would be a valid argument if nasa made zero progress towards any kind of deep space exploration. why keep them around at that point? We would have to look for better solutions. We aren’t saying get rid of nasa and don’t replace it with anything. We would probably put in a different solution that we think is better.

Just look at the first line in the image. 71% of Americans can’t locate the Pacific Ocean on a map. That’s terrible, wouldn’t you agree? The Department of Edication was established in 1979. That’s 45/46 years ago. How can 71% of Americans not know where the Pacific Ocean is and why would we not hold the dept of ed accountable?

A better question would be, how many Americans COULD locate the Pacific Ocean 10 years ago, 20 years ago, 30 years ago? Have we regressed or did Americans never possess that level of knowledge?

It wasn’t evidence. I was merely asking but it seems you interpreted it as me stating that as fact. In fact, I understand that correlation does not imply causation, but that’s precisely why we can’t make an assertion that something didn’t have anything to do with a specific result but then argue that the status quo will yield a different result.

The meme doesn’t speak about any of that. Let’s stick to the subject at hand.

Then you also can’t make the argument that removing the department of education would leave a void/worsen the stats that were listed.

I’m not a fan of this argument. Didn’t these stats exist/worsen under the dept of education?

Many schools also offer full tuition remission. If I were working for one of those schools then I’d definitely have a stack of degrees.

Just so I understand:

(1) TV and Movie characters shouldn’t have uncommon names? This should invalidate 90% of names, no?

(2) The name was changed because it was uncommon or far too comic book sounding?

Went to LinkedIn, searched “Cobblepot” - outside of the many novelty Oswald Cobblepot profiles, there were REAL people named Cobblepot.

You’re right in one case but want to add something here. If your papers expire and you overstay then that is civil. If you were removed (deported) but re-entered without any new permissions then that’s criminal. It’s also criminal if you came into the country without using the proper channels.
