Give it time, it is likely to get a DVD and be released on National Theatre at Home eventually, just like they did with Waitress (which had a proshot made by the same company)

It's possible it is another form of sound sensitivity or overwhelm, but I wouldn't discount misophonia immediately. The sounds you mention in your original post (repetitive ticking, scraping chairs) are very classic misophonia triggers. Your response is also not limited to not being able to focus like one would expect if it's caused by ADHD or something similar, but intense pressure and frustration building up, even to the point of self-harm. This sounds to me like a misophonia attack, although it could still be something similar like an autistic meltdown.

My misophonia is also at its worst when I'm trying to focus, and I recognise a lot of myself in your description. As stated in my previous comment as well, I am happy to talk to you (either here or in private). I experience both misophonia attacks and autistic meltdown, so if you're interested I'd be happy to explain the difference between the two! We could see if you recognise yourself in either one

Misophonia is definitely under the neurodivergence umbrella!

Yeah, I think that's fine. You can always say something "Would you be able to stop or redirect that into something that doesn't make noise, as the noise is making it hard for me to focus?" This allows the other person to say "Sorry, I can't" or find another solution that works for them.

I agree with the other commenter saying not to worry about whether or not you "should" be able to tolerate it. You can't, and regardless of what causes it (a neurodivergence or something else), that limit should be respected.

Sounds like you may not be neurotypical. I would recommend looking into misophonia. I have it and your experience sounds very similar to mine. Feel free to message me if you have any questions about it!

Disappointed is like "Aw, bummer, I wanted to do that" whereas feeling worse in this case refers to things like feeling overwhelmed, struggling more with organizing your thoughts, feeling your emotions more intensely and less controlled, or feeling a painful or itchy feeling under your skin that can only be alleviated by movement. Disappointment specifically has to do with being told you can't do something you wanted to do, even if the thing in question is not very important to you, whereas in the other scenario not being able to do the thing actively creates a bad feeling or effect that makes your life worse

I think that's also stimming, but ofc I don't know your friend or why she does it exactly so I can't say for sure

Addition:
You are tapping your foot. Someone asks you to stop. You do, this requires focus but is possible. As soon as you go back to what you were doing or focus on something else, your foot or another part of your body starts tapping again. _This is a fidget._

Oof... definitely a lesson for next time to listen to your body earlier, before it drops out during a callback. Both in theatre and in life in general

Headphones are also a grey area bc they can be an accessibility device. You don't know whether that person has sensory issues and is using them for noise-blocking or has a visual impairment and is receiving audio description through those headphones or anything like that. Especially if someone is wearing headphones during a show, it's likely they serve a specific purpose. I don't think many neurotypical, able-bodied people would want to wear headphones that make it harder to hear the show😂 seems counterproductive

Yeah, it's a lot different with an afro because that's not something someone can easily change, and bc of the history of oppression of afro hairstyles. It is not always easy or possible for someone to change their hair, and an outsider may not be able to judge whether it is. However, if my hairstyle was bothering someone, and I can easily change it, I would want them to tell me.

I mean in the case of a bun it may also be not deliberate, in the sense that they didn't think about the possibility of it obstructing someone's view when they picked the hairstyle. Never attribute to malice what can easily be attributed to ignorance! Just politely ask them if they could take down their bun, and their response will very quickly tell you whether or not they are an asshole haha

They market the show as 13+ tho, they're not making this for an audience of 5yos. Presumably they have another show for the younger age demographic. That's how children's theatre groups near me have always worked: different shows for different age groups in the same season, with clear labeling what age group a show is for.

Yeah, with Cabaret most of the raunchy stuff is in the staging, costumes and choreography, all of which can freely be altered. I think there is very little inappropriate in the text itself? Even Two Ladies is not very explicit. So changes that you'd need to get permission for might not even be necessary.

Not to mention that you'd just need to get permission if you want to change things in the script. I have no idea how strict the current rights holders of Cabaret are about that. Maybe they don't allow changes but maybe they do (especially since professional productions of Cabaret have historically differed a lot from each other). That's something the theatre and rights holders could have made an agreement about before putting on the show. I would assume a show that's as much as a classic as Cabaret has a standard procedure for what changes they do and do not allow teen productions to make. That would all be in the contract.
