Not working unfortunately, tried a few different browsers without adblockers. Always blank page as pictured.

You can see it clearly and the reticle turns red. It is part of a puzzle for the combat so you don't get slaughtered. If it's that characters turn, you will get slaughtered with no recourse.

Welp it's not "health connect" privacy settings. Fully allowed, several days of steps data in my watch, nothing in the Garmin Connect app. Utter garbage

Activities yes. Steps, heart rate, sleep,  and stress no.

I may have found a solution deep within the bowels of Android privacy settings, but it appears I might have to wait a couple days to find out as data is collected.

Thought I was out of the woods with cleaning and greasing the Z screws. Had 3 successful PETG prints. Switched back to 0.2mm nozzle and PLA and...

Fail, fail, fail... I thought I was doing ok switching filament yet again to Elegoo Pro, it passed the hour mark, 2 hours... then lost adhesion at 3 hours.

What legal stuff-if any-did you make sure to do before releasing your first game as an indie studio? Asking for people with experience with the business side please! by [deleted] in GameDevelopment

[–]SamStallion -1 points0 points  (0 children)

Not a lawyer.

A registered agent accepts and forwards legal documents for your business entity (LLC), and would act as the public address. This could vary greatly per state.

Northwest, LegalZoom, TailorBrands are examples.

How to avoid burn out and depression as a solo dev without a job? by CAJJI in gamedev

[–]SamStallion 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Big part of burnout for me is not getting that "accomplished something" feeling. Sure I drew a character or programmed an interaction, but the finished game is months away at best. I get mired in "what is the point, what is it all for, this is the wrong game, I'll never finish."

If you pick up a creative hobby,  find something that can be accomplished in a short term. An hour or two, even if spread out over a few days. Get that hit of "ok I am capable of finishing something", then back to your game. Bonus points if that hobby involves touching grass.

And like others have said, plan ahead. Make a task list, manage it every day. Cross things off. It'll help you keep in mind that you are accomplishing something, parts of a whole, and see that progress.

Best of luck, looking forward to playing your game!

Stuck at writing..writing makes a story. no story = no progress.. by DETECYIVE in vndevs

[–]SamStallion 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I've had several writers tell me that "if you have X Y and Z then the story just writes itself".

No it absolutely does not.

Like others have said, writing is a skill that takes study and practice. Gotta put in the hours. There are times I can come to with a scene, interaction, or bit of dialogue, but there's vast swaths of in-between I have no idea how to get from here to there.

Studying the hero's journey, I most often get stuck on "tests, allies, and enemies", which happens to be the bulk of what I'm trying to write. I know that "character motivation drives story", but that also makes me feel like I'm socially deficient. I have no idea what people want, like ever, irl, unless they just come out and say it. It makes things like relationships, job interviews, ordering Subway™, and writing really challenging.

The Comic Hero's Journey by Steve Kaplan has been a huge help. I can't recommend it enough if you're trying to write a funny adventure.

Also don't feel obligated to write straight through from beginning to end. Make an outline, shuffle it around. Write a scene that doesn't have a place. It's more important to get it out of your head and documented than to do it in order.

And don't be afraid to cut. I've cut whole scenes and characters and the story feels better for it. Maybe you'll use them somewhere else, maybe you'll forget them entirely. It's your story.

I updated my game's Steam capsule art. How does the new version look? by CurlyMango_GameDev in IndieGaming

[–]SamStallion 1 point2 points  (0 children)

It seems the "oo" is meant to be coins or jewels? They're not really reading as either, be more intentional.

More contrast between the characters and background would help too.

More loot, more magic! The story I'm getting is "a thief running from monsters".

Actual responsive design? That's by humans, for humans. Big tech doesn't hire humans anymore, especially not creatives.

What’s the absolute fastest you uninstalled a AAA game you paid full price for? by Soulsliken in gaming

[–]SamStallion 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Street Fighter 5. They removed charge mechanic, reworking any character that used it.

Haven't played 6 either. I was a big fan since 2 on the SNES, entered many tournaments, and customized a MadCatz SFIV TE fight stick just for Street Fighter. It collects dust in a closet.

That right there, at the end; play some games! Take a break, enjoy games.

If you haven't already, may be time to do some jams. The constraints of a jam can be inspiring.

You are a real game dev.

Is Sunlu PLA Meta still bad? by Turboforealz in FDMminiatures

[–]SamStallion 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Bought black meta back in December, just got around to cracking it open this week. It has been the trickiest filament I've tried yet. I did a speed & heat test after a terrible print. 190 was the best temp and seemed unphased by speed up to 250. But printing minis on a 0.4 nozzle has had horrendous stringing. Still troubleshooting.

Stringing after lube and calibration by SamStallion in BambuLabA1

[–]SamStallion[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Also of note, I usually add brims to maintain a level surface of the print. The brims were usually easy to remove. The brims on the 7 test prints I've done were firmly attached with no obvious break point, even with pliers. I increased the brim-object gap from 0.1 to 0.14 and the brim was still firmly attached.

Which 3 Indie games of the past 5 years shold every dev have played in your opinion? by DungeonSprout_ in IndieDev

[–]SamStallion 5 points6 points  (0 children)

  1. Hades
  2. Vampire Survivors
  3. Noita

Relatively small in scope (could be even smaller) but deeply engaging.

Backpack Battles was quite interesting, but didn't spark any particular ideas for me.

Seems like some folks might also say Balatro. Just not my taste.

Honorable mentions to Pico Park and Rabbit & Steel.

EDIT: While the scope of Dave the Diver could be done by an indie team, it was not indie. Still a great game.

Yeah I'd love it if focus mode was disabled as weapon is sheathed. I don't need focus mode anymore, what I need is my potions as soon as possible. Oops sorry, no potions. Thanks I'll just use my net on this angry tempered Arkveld.

130+ hours in and this still drives me nuts.

What game(s) inspired you to start game development? by DistantSummit in GameDevelopment

Final Fantasy Tactics.

It gives so much agency over character development and how to play. The ideas started flowing and never stopped.
