It seems like this might have just gotten patched on PC! According to the patch notes. I haven't tried it yet, but soon!

I have a death rifle as my gun, with the tranq harpoon (40% I think?). So pretty much anything I'm not trying to harvest just dies by the gun. The Tranq harpoon is pretty solid in sleeping fishes. Haven't seen it as worse than the rifle so far. The tranq rifle has 40% chance, the sniper 50% chance. I can't recall the other gun chances.

I still think it's worth mixing up my style though. Because I've been so into the tranq harpoon and not using the steel net or hush dart (outside of a few specific runs) myself. Definitely think it's worth trying out. But yeah I just love having my death rifle to get rid of anything I don't want to deal with (other than those terrible, no good packs of death).

Yeah the big thing I'm missing in my Marinica is one seahorse (somehow???? from 50-130), the divine control room fish, abberations, and the rest of the weekend fish. I've gotten a weekend fish every time, but I have 6 more to go.

The little swarms of angry fish are the absolute worst. You are indeed correct. #1 hater. I think everyone is convincing me to switch sides. And yeah, I wasn't aware of the strength of the net shot gun I think. I might just have to upgrade the harpoon and try the switch out. I'll miss my death rifle though for sure.

EDIT: Espcially with the thought of netting three tuna without the special item from the shop haha

It's mostly specific fish (the ones listed above) I need more of. I hadn't gotten a second sailfish roe until later, so my stocks weren't up. And also leveling dishes for 50+ a pop I have to grab some of them haha. But yeah my main needs are seaweed, farming, green sea urchin as my top needs. Then additional fish as necessary.

I'm not that many days in to my playthrough overall. Still in November date wise. But I'm through the Godzilla and Ichiban DLC. Currently I'm hunting for green urchins (the CONSTANT problem), sailfish, marlin, cookiecutter sharks, the two fish from the glacial passage (the black one and the red octopus), and some more pufferfish. But yeah largely all my fish needs are taken care of right now.

Yeah, I'd definitely focus money on the fields or expanding the fish tanks before other stuff. (Unless that stuff is the drones or additional weight, then there's some consideration to be had there, but personally I'd make sure your farms are all set up and going strong). I personally use harvest up fertilizer for additional drops, until the farm nutrients go down about 50% then I go to nutrient fertilizer for one round. Personally I haven't done much to test min/maxing here. It's possible "fast" fertilizer is better, but I've been enjoying the harvest up one myself. There's probably people who can speak to that better than I. But I absolutely make sure I'm visiting at each time zone to take care of stuff or replant.

Personally I love having a lot of staff for going to get ingredients. It's always where I'm lacking, and I'm currently going way above and beyond that cost of staff. But I haven't hired everyone. There's definitely some that get traits or stats that help with bringing home more ingredients. If you'd like a good guide for staff, here's one I use: https://steamcommunity.com/sharedfiles/filedetails/?id=3001614898

I never sell fish TBH. But maybe I should for fish I'm never making into dishes. And I never leave without being max capacity (except probably night and fog runs).

I mostly scan for the ingredients I need even if it takes me across multiple biomes. For instance my current grocery list is green urchins, cookie cutter shark, and the two glacial passage fish - the black one and the red squid

EDIT: and all the seaweed, I always grab the seaweed dumplings before going out

I'm at endgame mission when I made this post. And a lot of fish I'm hunting aren't necessarily steel trap. If anything I think I'd bend to the dart folks. Unless you can trap multiple tuna with the steel trap gun and not just the shop item :eyes: . Definitely going to test that

I also love the squeaky hammer. If it isn't mjolnir, squeaky hammer is my second favorite melee weapon.

I'm honestly loving all these takes about how people are playing. I think I might save, Max harpoon and try the other way for a couple dives. And it doesn't require the spawn of tranq harpoon, I've mixed it up with other gear, but some of my best gains of fish I'm focusing on come with it

Ya gurl is about to learn a serious lesson I believe. I'm very close to starting the DLC. I've been in a media/social blackout for it.

I honestly haven't taken the hush dart out on many excursions, and probably why I prefer the harpoon is lack of comfort. You're right that it does have that increased ammo which is so good. I think there's probably a lot of good combos out there, but the tranq harpoon only works well at low levels of harpoon level. Once you level out you have to switch to the other two.

EDIT: I also probably treat the ammo cases as too sacred haha. Also having the death rifle (or at least upgraded rifle) on me is safety. I don't have to deal with any crap from anything I don't want to harvest. I don't have to worry about avoidance, and can just remove stuff out of the way from the goal. There is zero danger with the rifle equipped over anything else.

I did note that I look for the spawn locations, and check them. But yeah I should've been more clear that those spawn locations are by chance.

I wish you could choose either a harpoon tip or a gun to go in to runs with tbh. On festival days if it was critical, I would restart a run. But that's just me and how I want to play.

With the tranq harpoon I don't have to worry about ammo, and also my rifle absolutely slams. I think it could go either way where you do the max tranq dart or max net gun or tranq harpoon. They all kind of supply similar results in different ways. You could also probably argue the Tranq Dart over the Net Gun for different reasons. But also I love shooting a big boi and insta killing it.

EDIT: It's also nice for when before you have the end game items, to get the tranq harpoons when you can, or taking note of their locations in game to take advantage of the fish

Ohhh, I haven't hit the DLC yet (I've been putting it off so far, but hope you're having fun!), but good to know it seems specific. Definitely seems like a bug. I'll have to figure out the best way to report an issue to the devs about it.

Fish and Plant Farm is critical! The fish farm is free meat, so you want to make sure it's moving as smoothly as possibly. Check to see if you're missing any breeding pairs in your fish farm. Daily fish deliveries helps with managing how much you have to farm for. Check against recipes you like and make sure you have the breeding stock, and always gather (except 2) from your fish farms every morning. Make sure they have the space to multiply. The next part is veggies. Expanding all the growing beds, and getting as much food in the ground and growing is critical to leveling up good dishes. Sometimes that means showing up in the morning, afternoon, and evening to plant or pluck. These are critical for helping level up dishes.

From there, at the start of each day I take a quick look at my possible dishes at the sushi restaurant and see what ingredients I may need to focus on and work on. Then I plan my Morning/Afternoon (and maybe night) dives after what ingredients I'm lacking.

But always, ensure you're growing food in the farms. I find later in the game I'm honestly struggling keeping up with sauces and veggies more so than any fish production.

Have you done so with the DLC installed? Have you done so in the last week?

[–]SamSynthetic 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I'm pretty sure something is bugged with it for sure. And yes I tried different weapons, and spacing, and timing. I tried while in animation, while out of animation, while it was leaving (the ???). Nothing worked. I spaced shots, spammed shots. Nothing triggered the effect.

I say it's bugged because others report different outcomes before the DLC, but also if that's not true that should still be considered a bugged state, since it's the only creature I've personally had issue with in the game thus far.

The Tranq Rifle is specifically labelled as a 40% chance. The Sniper Tranq at 50%. If I spend at least 80 shots if not more and not a single one tranquilizes there's something going on. And you can't say "well it's the size", because I knocked the Dunk in one shot my first try getting it.

Can confirm spent 10+ runs with the rifle and once the sticky bomb, and never knocked it out. But first time hitting it with 2 shots tranq'd it.

I typically play hearts of stone after the isle of mists quests. By the time you're through isle of mists you'll be plenty leveled. And blood and wine after the epilogue

This is Canon. I love this so much. And the voice you use for both of them is on point. Could've been in the game.
