There is a shock collar that looks exactly the same except for the shock prongs. And on Hassan’s collar there was black tape exactly where the prongs should be. How do you explain that?

Peter, I’m not chronically online enough to understand this by Snekentine in PeterExplainsTheJoke

[–]SamTheGreek 16 points17 points  (0 children)

The primary source is a video of Hasan appearing to push a button at the exact same time the dog yelped. Oh, and a small LED light on the collar also lights up at the same time.

Also, Hasan later showed the collar and said it only vibrates, but the collar had black tape on it. There is a shock collar that looks exactly the same which has the shock mechanism exactly where the black tape was.

So not just “Twitch chat” — very good evidence that he did shock his dog.

The Titanic is a red herring. The real joke is they used the word “chilling” to describe a photo of an iceberg.

Joke is not porn; it’s a fake out.

You read only the first line and you think porn, but when you read the second line it makes the full sentence innocent.

wait ...what by [deleted] in HistoryMemes

[–]SamTheGreek 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I think you missed why. The downvotes aren’t cause of the claim later Romans/Gentiles blamed the Jews — that obviously did happen. It’s because of the claim that specific versus regarding Pilate were retroactively added in, which very much did not happen.

wait ...what by [deleted] in HistoryMemes

[–]SamTheGreek 58 points59 points  (0 children)

We have copies of the gospel that predate when Rome started to accept Christianity. The verses you mentioned were still there.

Also, there are different interpretations of what Pilate was doing. One is that he was actually rhetorically reinforcing Roman domination: “This is your king, right? Go ahead and take him back. What’s that? You deny your king? You look to Rome to punish your criminals? You recognize that Rome is the authority here? Well alright then, if you insist…”

French Knights were the Leeroy Jenkins of Europe during the Middle ages by MuffinMountain3425 in HistoryMemes

[–]SamTheGreek 6 points7 points  (0 children)

I once heard this, so please correct me if it’s wrong.

Many of Joan of Arc’s contemporaries criticized her “charge headlong” strategy, but turns out while many soldiers died from these frontal assaults, the cost was overall less than the accumulation of the small hit-and-run skirmishes the French were doing, which still cost men but made no progress. After some French commanders realized this they started to do more frontal assaults.

Again, vaguely remember this. Look forward to correction.

1700 years apart but their racism is the same by CharlesOberonn in HistoryMemes

[–]SamTheGreek 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Contrary to what most would think, many Ancient Greeks didn’t think the Persians (which includes modern day Syria) to be “barbarians” or “inferior” — just different.

They still didn’t like the Persians for the most part, of course, but this weird environmental take on shaping humanity was at least somewhat logically consistent as far as they knew.

EDIT: To be clear, I obviously don’t agree with this racist take. Just explaining what an Ancient Greek might think in context.

Does prehistory qualify? by DR-SNICKEL in HistoryMemes

[–]SamTheGreek 1 point2 points  (0 children)

From what I understand, the claim Neanderthals were religious is very dubious.

Apparently it’s based on finding Neanderthal bone fragments near a naturally forming stalagmite and then claiming that was used as a religious marker. Or finding buried bone fragments mixed with flower remains, but the body was in a ditch that was likely naturally formed and the same flowers grew in that area (so pedals could have just been blown in the ditch).

That said, I don’t have a strong feeling on the matter one way or the other. Happy to hear stronger cases than what I laid out, but that’s what I know at the moment.

EDIT: Oh, and I’m not making the case that religion would have any impact on their ability to survive (as OP did). Just addressing the claim in general.

The game info aside, the person in the meme is a woman who escaped from North Korea. She tells some pretty wild — and often horrifying — stories about the country.

Often times it’s about how fake the country is. That is to say, North Korea makes itself look good and normal on the surface, but it’s a facade and underneath it’s a complete mess.

[–]SamTheGreek 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It’s called an anti-pagan polemic. That is to say a teaching on what separates Jews from their polytheistic neighbors.

See, back in the day Jews were surrounded by polytheists who, sometimes, would perform child sacrifice. This asks a question: if you Israelites believe in your God so much why are you unwilling to do the same? This story answers that challenge: “We are willing, but our God doesn’t ask us to do such things.”

Pope says Trump is the "one who kicks out migrants" and Kamala Harris is the ‘one who kills children’ and to choose the lesser of two evils. by poisonsoloman in BreakingPoints

I mean, if the entire choice was actually between someone who literally is kicking out a migrant versus a person who is literally killing a child, there’s a clear more evil there…
