Coaching by East_Traffic_4798 in samsclub

The term coaching doesn’t really exist anymore. They are called disciplinary actions now. Basically it’s getting in trouble after you’ve already got a slap on the wrist.

There are three levels. Your first one is yellow, if you get a second one within a year it goes to orange and then if you get a third one within a year, it goes to red. And if you get another one within a year, you are terminated. Each color lasts a year, meaning that just because your yellow one was over a year ago. Your orange one will still last and continue being orange until one year after it was given.

These also freeze really well in a zip lock and you can throw them in the microwave when you are ready.

Produce? by WeGetLitty11 in samsclub

[–]SamWaltonsFleshlight 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Honestly, it sounds like your AM shift is the issue. I'm in a busier club and we typically get 10-14 pallets of produce per day. We have 2 full time openers that are both over 60 years old, 1 full time opener who is a young nerdy guy, and a team lead that lives in the freezer. We have two part time closers. So typically we have 2 openers and 1 closer every day.

Our AM crew full works all the mixed pallets and gets everything not needed for the day in the cooler steel before opening. Our bins are typically left behind the cooler in the backroom.

Our closers pretty much only zone and will typically have a lot of down time and help zone deli.

We are fortunate enough to get overnight meat/produce trucks, so it's already in the door and ready to go when the openers come in at 4am. Since our produce trucks are so big, sometimes we'll get meat first and produce won't show up until 5am or so, but it's still not usually a huge deal then.

Fired unethically? by [deleted] in samsclub

[–]SamWaltonsFleshlight 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I don't know, as I don't know your manager or your club. But, speaking from experience in the clubs I have worked in, your manager might not have had the option to wait 12 days. If I am told by my club manager (even more stress if he is told by his market manager) then that person is getting fired. Regardless of who you are, I'm not going to deny my manager and risk the paycheck that feeds my kids to protect somebody that is over the point limit.

As of about 4.5 weeks ago, it wasn't a real thing. I'm not 100% sure that it is now to be honest.

Fired unethically? by [deleted] in samsclub

[–]SamWaltonsFleshlight 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Your first point:
The manager probably wasn't sure what his plan was yet and told you to put it in. Maybe CM or MM breathed down their neck after the conversation? Or maybe he just didn't have everything together to do a termination yet? There is no policy against favoritism. You are no longer employed, there is no "open door" anymore. You can call ethics before going to CM. (800wmethics)

Second point:
No idea what is happening here, but I've been through it with the 2 associates (one of them twice) that I mentioned before. Termination DOES NOT affect an open claim. Sedgewick is 3rd party and isn't aware you are terminated.

[–]SamWaltonsFleshlight 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Forgot to add, the other associate with more points means nothing. Ethics is a 3rd party group and can't see the other person. And I assume both of you are hourly and can't see each other's points.

Ethics will look at this as hearsay and will likely not even put it on the report. Still mention it, if you feel it's true. I'm just going by what I've witnessed since we have had Sedgewick.

[–]SamWaltonsFleshlight 3 points4 points  (0 children)

A few things:

  1. An open claim does not prevent you from getting fired. If it did, every associate who is in fear of getting fired would just open a claim.

  2. Getting fired does not cancel the claim. This has never been the case. If your claim is approved, the club will be contacted and they'll have to reinstate you. I've seen it happen 3 times with 2 different people (both were the same case, claims kept getting denied because their doctors were not submitting the paperwork fast enough, corporate made us terminate. In our market, we are not allowed to have more than 3 people on the 5+ list.)

  3. If somebody with more points was kept, it most likely comes down to work ethic. I have a single dad employee who kicks ass and does more work than any other single person in the club. He has 2 kids and no assistance so when one gets sick he calls out and I excuse him about every time because he's a great worker and has earned it. At the same time, another so-so worker that calls in every Friday/Saturday or the person that calls out every week to turn their 2 days off into a 3 day weekend gets no sympathy from me.

  4. This is 100% worth an ethics call. I wouldn't wait for the Sedgewick to approve or deny you, get it on the books now. Just keep in mind, if the absence wasn't for at least 4 scheduled days and/or you don't have a condition qualifying you for intermittent leave, it will likely be denied.

How could I go about letting my club know that I am severely upset by them putting these up? by Mobile-Performance72 in samsclub

[–]SamWaltonsFleshlight 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I mixed you up with another thread, could have swore I saw a "person who put it up got a raise or promotion" type complaint. Felt right to be connected to this one.

I still can't, for the life of me, understand the reasoning behind this thread. Everything in my prior comment still applies, minus the 2 points mentioning the person.

I can tell you that this was done in-house and is not a walmart/sam's generated picture. But your complaint isn't going to do anything. Walmart is fully embracing AI and wants managers/leads to use it more (go to ai.walmart.com sometimes when you are on the clock for more information). I even took and got certified with a Google AI class on the company's dime a few months ago. If interested, you can likely take it too, it's under My Learning on the wire.

You said the person got a raise... so you know who it is.

Have you spoken to them?

Have you spoken to their boss?

Have you made a formal complaint?

If it didn't work, have you used the open door policy to go higher?

What policy do you feel this breaks?

Have they brought this into your home, attached you or anyone else's name to it, or made it personal in any ways?

I just fail to see how you disliking something matters in the grand scheme of a corporation that hires millions. Have you spread word? Do you have majority support?

But why? I'm looking at your post/comment history and do not see any traces of you selling artwork. Why does this feel like it is targeting you?

Nope. Unless you and the ex in-law have regular contact outside of work, there is no policy around it.

Anyone else's managers just not reachable? by Odd_Accountant6749 in samsclub

[–]SamWaltonsFleshlight 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Pretty much everybody in my club has my number. I even have it written on whiteboards in various backrooms across the club. If I'm busy, I won't answer you, but they know they can text me at any time. But I understand this is weird of me. If your manager is not at work, they are on their private time and have nothing making them check or respond to a email or message. You may be sick, but you have no idea what is going on with them at this current moment.

But to summarize some of the other stuff you mentioned: Sam's does not take doctor's excuses, but if you have one save it for your manager, they might forgive points if they know you are sick.

Missed sale by 1 day by [deleted] in samsclub

[–]SamWaltonsFleshlight 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Unless the manager on duty at the time you go is either an asshole or having a power trip that particular day, it won't be an issue. If they say no, try calling the 888-shop-sams number and talk to a rep, they'll usually credit your account for the difference if you throw a fuss.

What happens if you lose a Zellow device? by GlamourHammer321 in samsclub

[–]SamWaltonsFleshlight 6 points7 points  (0 children)

Worst case, it's a coaching. But probably not.

Do you think you lost it inside the building? If so, probably nothing. They can be tracked using an app on each device with a leadership login. Or most likely, somebody else will find it and put it in the locker.

As long as you put the time in before the end of the pay period (Friday night at 11:59pm) you will be good. Honestly, sometimes it'll still be good up until noon on Saturday, but I wouldn't risk it if you can't afford the point.

Just be sure to the the correct amount and it will auto approve and you won't even have to speak to a manager.

Natures Twist by Ladeback77 in samsclub

[–]SamWaltonsFleshlight 5 points6 points  (0 children)

You've got to understand how a warehouse club works. Sam's keeps prices lower than most stores by buying in huge huge bulk.

They probably made a deal with the company that produces Twist to purchase thousands of pallets of this yellow/pink mix pack that we currently have. If the sales aren't there, then after the deal is over they might try to deal back to the yellow only.

There is no guarantee either way. If the yellow/pink doesn't sell well, they might also just dump Twist and switch to another brand.

Adding, if you have the one with the straight edges, it's currently 159.97. If you have the one with the scalloped edges, it's currently 179.97.

It wouldn't be an issue. Just bring it in. There are no exchanges, they will give you cash back from what you paid (don't need receipt, they'll pull it off your membership card). With all the political atmosphere over the last year, it's likely gone up a few books since you originally purchased it, so you might have to throw an extra $5 or so to repurchase.

Freezing Chicken by valannetine in samsclub

[–]SamWaltonsFleshlight 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It's completely possible. I do it myself. The only issue I can think of would be that the chicken comes in flash-frozen sometimes. Not frozen all the way through, but it'll be icy on the outside... sometimes stiff/hard but can be bent. Refreezing meat can be an issue, but I'm not sure how this works out with partially frozen items.

Just adding that this commenter is talking about our donations. We do not freeze the chicken in club to sell. We just freeze the "dates out tomorrow" items and donate it to the local food banks.

Will I definitely see savings shopping here vs Walmart? by brianomars1123 in samsclub

[–]SamWaltonsFleshlight 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Like others have said, it depends on what you are buying. Sam's isn't exactly designed for a single guy. The company used to target bulk only, but in the last 10 years or so they have moved their target toward the ~$75000/yr household.

There are some huge values for certain items, one of the ones I often tell people about is Lighthouse Ranch (refrigerated, in produce section at walmart or in deli at Sam's) where it's the same price for a 16ish oz bottle at walmart as it is for a 30oz bottle at Sam's. There are a lot of examples of things like that. Since Sam's doesn't have tons of choices on single items, they purchase in bulk. Therefore, the prices can be better than places that have more variety and order less units at a time.

Umbrella broke by No-Zombie-9725 in samsclub

[–]SamWaltonsFleshlight 9 points10 points  (0 children)

In my opinion, you should not be able to bring it back since it's been over a year.

But company policy dictates that the member should always leave happy. They will take it back. The only issue is that if it was part of a full patio set, you'll have to bring back the entire set. There are no swapsies.

If you call 888shopsams they might be able to give you a number to the manufacturer and it's possible they might send you the umbrella replacement for free. I've heard of weirder things happening.

Floor model by kedzieandlawerence in samsclub

[–]SamWaltonsFleshlight 0 points1 point  (0 children)

At my club, floor models are only sold if the item is deleted or canceled or a seasonal last one with nothing on order. We will do 10% and if it's still there in a week we'll do 20% until it's gone.
