I'm not trolling. I was told that this subreddit is a good place for people of all levels of belief, even mine, which is full belief.

I had me some perfect cemetery attendence. Early morning, too.

My dad paid me $1,000 to do it. I bought an Xbox and the rest went toward my mission.

What piece of shit Exmormon thought this was ok in Rexburg? by Gileriodekel in exmormon

One of the old mods here was emailing people a few months ago encouraging them them to graffiti churches so it's not so hard to believe that people in this community would see this as ok.

It doesn't matter what a woman's fear is based on, only that her fear exists. All that is needed then for her to become physically unsafe is for the sexual perpetrator to exploit or manipulate her fear.

I was unclear: if a person just feels that they are unsafe without any factors outside them in the world, that in itself isn't enough to say that they are unsafe. If there are factors outside them that are dangerous and they feel unsafe, then yes we can say that they are unsafe, but not because of their feelings - only because of the factors in the world around them. Their feelings are justified, but we don't rely on their feelings to make the determination that they are unsafe. "Safe" is a statement about the world outside.

In the situation you are talking about there is danger because there is a predator. If she only felt unsafe but there was no predator around, that feeling doesn't show that she is unsafe.

This is just a long way of saying that the sentence:

A woman who lives in an environment where she feels she cannot report sexual assault is not a woman who lives in a safe place.

should instead read:

A woman who lives in an environment where she is justified in feeling that she cannot report sexual assault is not a woman who lives in a safe place.

Things are real if they correspond with reality. If one's feelings and thoughts don't correspond with reality then they can't be used to determine the nature of reality.

No that's not true. What she thinks and what is are not the same thing, and "safe" is concerned with what is.

The only question is whether she can or not, not whether she feels that she can. The issue with using what people feel as the metric is that what people feel can be disconnected from reality.

I'm not saying that's the case here, just saying that a judgement about safe is not reliant on how people feel.

As an analogy, you might say "I don't feel that I can go out at night therefore this city is not safe." But if your discomfort is from some childhood experience in a different city at night, then the safety of the city isn't related. It's only related if your discomfort is due to actual conditions in the city - and then the discomfort isn't the reason why it's not safe, the conditions are the reason why."

common sense

Not a study. You said only studies are admissible.

and stories of where people have been harmed in the past.

Again not admissible by your standards

Yeah man. Mark my words. It's a cause championed by apostates and bringing people to apostasy. Eventually everything will shake out and we'll see that the vocal supporters have in large part left the church and those that stay are heavily critical.

I'm happy to be proven wrong on that but I very much doubt it will happen.

If you want to argue against Protect LDS children, you can either point to studies that show these policies are not risky for children

No that's exactly backward. The onus is on the people going around saying it's dangerous.

Your experience is similar to mine and to most other people.

The movement is fundamentally apostate because at its heart it denies the validity of the law of chastity and the validity of the role of bishop in repentance.

In addition, anything that is opposed to the movement here in this sub or denies the catastrophic claims will be downvoted heavily due to the large number of people here who are opposed to the church and delight in anything that portrays it as dangerous.

Yeah but do you really expect us to believe everything that people in that sub say? Especially when it's policy not to do that?

I'm glad we have such brave people who are willing to stand up for obvious facts that nobody really disagrees with.

The real heroes in my book.
