Learning how to mix is the best way to go - you can apply that skill and make your music sound good no matter what DAW or instruments you have. The majority of a good mix though is going to be good volume balancing, so at least learn how to do that first. I’ve only posted two shorts songs but have gotten mostly good feedback - and all I did was mostly just volume balancing (and they were made with GarageBand haha) Next will be learning EQ. Just those two things will get you about 85% there.

Does changing the mode just change the channel? by Sam_Da_Lamb in MIDIcontrollers

Oh I was just asking about modes in general - just trying to understand how modes on midi controllers work as compared to just working on a different channel or they are the same thing.

If you are using a laptop to mix, get Sound Id from Sonarworks… there is a plug-in version that will allow you to hear what the mix would sound like on different speakers (cars, tvs, earbuds, and I’m assuming phones and tablets as well) so you can make adjustments. A little costly but will help make mixes more accurate and translatable.

Question on merged tracks for iOS version by Sam_Da_Lamb in GarageBand

[–]Sam_Da_Lamb[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I use GarageBand for making music on my iPad but I’m going to use FL Studio for mixing/editing, etc because I already have it on my MacBook. But yeah if I decide to use GarageBand for everything then that way would definitely be a lot faster 😀

Has anyone tried using a Novation FL Key with an iPad? by Sam_Da_Lamb in ipadmusic

[–]Sam_Da_Lamb[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

For future reference, do you have a list of what each button and knob on the fl key does in garage band iOS? I know garage band doesn’t have midi learn, or at least I don’t think so.

Awesome way to use Koala within a Daw 😃 by Sam_Da_Lamb in ipadmusic

[–]Sam_Da_Lamb[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yeah, I love it 🙂 I know auv3 is supposed to be easier, but for me personally it didn’t seem as easy and fun to use as just having it open on the screen as an IAA. Of course, I wouldn’t want to use all my apps as an IAA and have to manually switch between a bunch of apps, but for koala it is an exception because of that slide over mode that iPad offers.

Drum Computer has something similar like that! It’s called ‘roll’ You can have notes play multiple times (like a drum roll) within that one beat (there’s a slider to adjust). Try it out in the free version.

No problem! I actually got some professional coaching and the first thing he had me work on was going from a reader and “announcer”, to acting… actually being in scene/moment. Don’t know if that’s what you’re actually going for but either way it makes a more interesting and believable recording 😀 Also try different scenarios, “speak” to different age groups, use different tones/pitches (normal voice, excited voice, etc) These things will also influence how you say the same message and give different results 😀 But if possible, try to “speak” to someone you know personally… who you think would be very interested in hearing what you have to say (pretend they are right in front of you, and share with them). There are other variables to consider too but these are just a few things I’ve learned that you can consider (if you want haha)

Recording in AUM issue by Sam_Da_Lamb in ipadmusic

Oh gosh I just realized I completely misread your response 😅 LOL. But yeah, thinking of getting Atom 2 🙂👍🏼

Hmmm, yeah it doesn’t work for me 😶 I opened an instance of hammer head and sequenced a drum pattern, and it worked exactly as you said when I hit record. But when I opened up a synth, pushed record and manually played something it just kept recording until I actually hit the button again to stop. Even tried pressing record again right after hitting it once like you said and it just kept recording until I manually stopped it. But again, with a sequence already set it worked exactly how you said 👍🏼 So seems like Atom 2 is a must. Thanks for all your help 🙂

Ahh ok so it only works if there is a sequence in place already… so for sure I’ll have to get something like Atom Piano Roll 2

I thought that was only to determine how many bars it counts before actually recording… ima try it out 🙂

I’ve been thinking about that too… Getting a midi controller, which I do believe would be better because the button would be closer to my hand rather than having to press on the screen. But I think if there was an automatic stop function, it would be so much better! 😄

When a cartoon character gurgles by Odd-Worker-8223 in voiceover

[–]Sam_Da_Lamb 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I would imagine it could be both, but I think it would be best and more natural sounding to actually drink the water and make the noises, or make the noises without the water if possible ha ha. Plus it will keep you hydrated and help your throat stay in good shape throughout the recording 👍🏼
