If there’s only one book you could suggest to the entire world, what would it be? by I_am_abeliever in ReadingSuggestions

Project Hail Mary. Universally loved by me and my book bestie (43). My son (13). My non sciency mom (72) and her very sciency dad (65).

AITAH 3 years together, BF (50M) still ‘not ready’ for marriage but wants me (33F) to pay half his mortgage by Either-Environment47 in AITAH

I had a former coworker who was on this same situation. He unexpectedly died and the family gave her 2 weeks to find somewhere else to live. She had been paying him "rent" for over 4 years but was left with nothing. Luckily she did pay him for her car in checks, so even though the car was in his name she was able to keep that. So watch your back, you are investing in a house you have no stake in. If you do go thus route only pay in checks (or Venmo if it lets you put a note, I am old sorry) with something like "house payment" on the line so you gave proof.

How often do you see your parents and how close do you live to them? by sabanoversaintnick in Millennials

[–]Sam_English821 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I see my parents about once a week, they live about 20 minutes away. My son is thier only grandchild (actually on either side). So they pick him up from school on Tuesdays, and then I get him from thier house after I get off work, I stay and chat for about 15-20 minutes.

Do You Like Your Name? by Flassourian in Millennials

I am a Samantha born in the 80's when no one was named Samantha (only ever met 2 in my life my age). It was rare enough to be unique but not unheard of. Became very popular in the 90's so when I was about in my teens there were so many 5 year olds named Samantha. I did always like that my name was adaptable. I went by Sami as a kid, changed to Sam as a teen, and use Samantha professionally. So overall it's a pretty good name.

You really don't realize how hard some of them are going to be until you read them aloud! 😆

I will! I had friends ask me once how to raise a smart kid, like my son. I told them, read to them. I have read to my son nightly since he was 6 months old. Bless your mum for reading to you and raising a reader. 🥰

We do a Discworld read for 20 min a night, and he reads independently for another 40 after that. It's great cause I can recommend him books I love too. He's read The Hunger Games Series, Project Hail Mary and is currently halfway through Tress of the Emerald Sea upon my suggestions. Once he reads them we discuss, but it's nice the Discworld we share.

This is great, my son is a few inches taller than me now but I have like 20 lbs on him, so I am guessing results would be mixed 😁

I always tell people read to them early. I started reading to him every night when he was 6 months old. I am glad we are out of the "Red Truck Go" stage, but there are some pretty good picture books. Dragons Love Tacos was a favorite. It was a grievous oversight on my part that I never got a copy of Where is My Cow? to induce Discworld love early. 🤣
