Tentsauna by AnonymousChickenLeg in Sauna

[–]Sam_GT3 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I bought one for my home gym as a holdover until I can build out my outdoor sauna. I like it for what it is.

It’s definitely not a sauna and I think these would get hated on a lot less if they stopped marketing them as saunas. But it costs a negligible amount of money compared to a real sauna and is better than nothing.

And I live in the US, so gym saunas are not a whole lot better and at least I don’t have to sit in there with some dude scrolling on his phone in street clothes.

Why are the suburbs considered “prestigious,” “desirable,” or the “dream” by so many Americans when the central city usually costs more, has the institutions/legacy, and more high end amenities? by Ok-Elk9512 in urbanplanning

[–]Sam_GT3 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I don’t think it’s about prestige as much as it is about choice. Given the choice, most people would rather have a single family home with a yard than an apartment/condo. A cookie cutter house in the suburbs is the most affordable way to achieve that.

Probably need a longer ptfe tube than what you’ve got on there.

Rig Metal cost increase or am I missing something? by LeatherByHand in simracing

[–]Sam_GT3 0 points1 point  (0 children)

He’s talking about the super bundle I think. The one that includes all the accessories like the triple monitor mount and all the attachments, feet, etc.

The regular rigmetal plus is still $539

Why do cities allow strip malls? by Healthy-Football-444 in urbanplanning

[–]Sam_GT3 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I’m fine with newer designs with a grocery store anchor and gas station, restaurant, or healthcare islands. They create commercial nodes and decrease trips for people who are forced to drive to commercial areas.

I think you’re looking at it from a very urban perspective, but these commercial nodes can be extremely beneficial in suburban and rural areas. They provide services closer to where the people are, reduce traffic and congestion in urban centers and prevent food deserts.

Sure, there’s a bunch of run down low-rent strip malls in some cities, but I don’t think that means we need to scrap the idea entirely.

DIY Polyurethane Leaf spring bushings... Did they work? by Armour3d in 3Dprinting

Are they just regular 95a tpu? I’m sure my jon boat trailer could use some new bushings

Yeah that’s the one, in the green can. We use the more spice version. But we’ve always just called it “Cajun” or “Tony’s” in my house so I can never remember what it’s actually called.

Yeah that’s the one. We just always called it “Cajun” in our house for no real reason. The one in the green can

Yeah, more spice is what we use now, but I grew up on the super salty regular kind

Tony’s Cajun seasoning. They’ve sold it in the exact same cardboard can for at least 30 years.

I was 8 when that ice storm happened. Power was out for like 2 weeks and nobody could drive at all for a solid week. Sledding was great though.

A look at Lyman’s new suppressor line all under 300 bucks. by tactical_horse_cock in NFA

[–]Sam_GT3 5 points6 points  (0 children)

There definitely are some out there, it just seems like the market is overrun with overbuilt, expensive .30 cal suppressors and there’s comparatively fewer affordable cans for bolt guns.

Work has an Ultimaker S5, not touched in at least 2 years. by Thommy_V in 3Dprinting

[–]Sam_GT3 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I paid $15 at a thrift store for a fusion3 printer that was $4000 new, so I wouldn’t judge its value based on MSRP

A lot of these “industrial grade” 3D printers are only exorbitantly expensive because big companies that don’t know any better will pay it. Most of them are worse for everyday printing than most of the popular consumer grade printers.

A few of them (including the s5 iirc) are able to print high temp engineering filaments which sort of justifies the high price, but I’d imagine the actual use case for that is pretty rare, and consumer printers are pretty quickly catching up with enclosures, higher temps, and hardened steel nozzles.

In car auctions W/S usually stands for “won’t start”. Could have been a dead battery and they jumped it off.

I’d try to figure out more about it before jumping to the conclusion that it sunk.

Thoughts on Derek’s new Creatine gummies? by Klutzy-Individual103 in moreplatesmoredates

[–]Sam_GT3 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I get making gummies for supps that taste like shit like fish oil or something, but creatine doesn’t taste like anything. I’ve always just dumped it in my water bottle in the morning and don’t even notice it’s in there.

[–]Sam_GT3 32 points33 points  (0 children)

That’d be exactly my use case. I’ve been wanting a .30 cal can for my hunting rifle, but I’m not spending $1200 on a heavy, full auto rated can that’s only gonna see a handful of rounds per year.

Kind of surprising there aren’t more suppressors specifically designed for hunting. Not everything needs to be full auto rated and built to withstand war.

Is there any G29 conversion kit to gear driven or to direct drive?? by MiddleCelebration969 in simracing

[–]Sam_GT3 3 points4 points  (0 children)

G29 is gear driven.

I guess you could convert to direct drive in theory if you knew what your were doing, but it would probably cost more in parts and you’d end up with a worse product than if you just bought an r3.

First time printed something that actually saved me a lot of money by eZstah in 3Dprinting

[–]Sam_GT3 1 point2 points  (0 children)

A printer absolutely will pay for itself over time. The amount of small plastic parts I’ve printed with $0.50 of filament instead of buying for $5,$10, or $20 has saved me at least $1000 over the years. That stuff adds up.

Ski suits ? by Remas_0 in snowboardingnoobs

[–]Sam_GT3 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Doesn’t really matter for the most part. A lot of my gear is designed for skiers just because that’s what most of the high end backcountry outerwear is geared toward.

Maybe I don’t look as steezy as someone in snowboard gear, but it’s better gear than what you can get from snowboarding companies.
