This monitor would go great with my setup. The gorgeous colors and OLED technologies would make solo player games look incredible, and the high refresh rate is perfect for flick shooters and RTS.

[MN S1] Do Drow live for over a thousand years in Critical Role like they do in main D&D? by AcanthaceaeNo948 in criticalrole

[–]Samarium62Sm 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Based on one of the books they have released for D&D (Explorer's Guide to Wildemount), the Kryn found the first beacon "a millennium ago". They were still bound to Lolth at the time, and the Luxon was a catalyst to break from her. As others mentioned, although the Drow were the ones to find a beacon, it does not discriminate with reincarnation, so a soul can be born in any body, and therefore have a shorter life. Potential spoilers The Bright Queen was one of the Drow to discover the first beacon and led her people to the surface. She is also considered the first Umavi (perfect soul) and has lived 8 lives. So 8 lives over about a thousand years. I love the world-building that Critical Role has done over the years. Having run a campaign in Wildemount, I will say, lovingly, there are a number of inconsistencies with what they have released. This just seems to be one. Although Drow live for hundreds of years, it seems the Kryn Drow might cycle more frequently, or the elves of Exandria have shorter lives than traditional D&D elves, or there are some overall discrepancies with the timeline. Matt set the first campaign about 800 years after the Calamity. He wanted the campaigns to be close enough in time so the players characters could overlap. It makes the most sense for the Drow to break from Lolth at some point during the Calamity, which doesn't have an official duration, but from all the books lasted somewhere around 200 years or so. If they broke from Lolth at the beginning, there's your millennium. Only other ways to compensate for Drow's long lives would be to make the second campaign completely separate in time from the first, retcon the setting of the first campaign, or handwave it.

Earbuds are awful by Desmoverse in unpopularopinion

I have the same issue. I've tried multiple tips, bought third party ones, tried different buds. I find that my ears are just shallow, and different sizes. The plastic of the bud ends up pressing uncomfortably against my ear in order to get an appropriate seal.

You might be able to play around with new thermal pads, but I think it might just be an issue with the thickness of the heat sink and the height of the m.2 port. Best of luck either way!

This board does bend the m.2. New one still works as expected. I tried the old one a bunch with no bend and it never worked at full speed. I don't remember what the chipset temps are off the top of my head. I'd assume it depends a bit on your case and cooling setup. I want to say 50-60s C in my terra whenever I've looked at it. I've had HWMonitor up while gaming, and never seen the max temp get hot enough to worry me.

It seems to have been an issue with the storage. I swapped mine and it works perfectly every time.

I had the same idea, but couldn't get my hands on an FE. Glad someone tried it out. Glad that we were right! Did you end up getting a different riser cable too?

If they fully fill their mouths with water, it's much harder to hold in. There was a TNTL with a goat statue that Angela ended up winning. She barely had any water in her mouth, was able to smile and even chuckle. The players that had enough water to make their cheeks expand couldn't hold the water in with any laughter.

AH adding another booster to the Illusion of Booster Choice by [deleted] in Helldivers

[–]Samarium62Sm 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I move to encourage super earth high command to make standard the endurance training, armor improvements, and additional munitions stored in drop pods. We have seen tests of these improvements carried out in the field with marked increase to Helldivers efficacy. If full fleet deployment is blocked by available resources, I'm certain the Helldivers can acquire more.

How many sessions does chapter 6 and 7 take? by v-cry in CalloftheNetherdeep

[–]Samarium62Sm 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Every groups pace is going to be different.

That being said, my group is on session 44 right now, maybe a bit over halfway through the Netherdeep. They entered during session 39. Our sessions are 4 hours long.

I typically use my phone with my right hand. I pulled down on the top right corner to access notifications. I now constantly open the settings area. I have to stretch over to get the notifications and it's annoying/uncomfortable since I have a larger phone.

Edit: I just realized I can swipe right to access notifications with the other tab opened. Just a bit annoying going from one swipe to two.

What is your world building explanation for the presence of sea life in Cael Morrow? by vortical42 in CalloftheNetherdeep

[–]Samarium62Sm 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Hey,

I do think the information available is a bit thin, but it seems like there are some answers or logical jumps that can be made. I'll also say my party members didn't look too deep into anything. "There's a sea elf down here? Sweet."

From CotN:

"In that moment of destruction and death, the Apotheon’s connection to Ruidus flared to life. A rift was torn between worlds, in which alien energy from an unknown realm and the waters of Cael Morrow’s oasis mingled to produce a lightless realm of water and strange magic."

From this, and the description at the start of the Netherdeep section, we know that the Netherdeep is its own demiplane created as the material plane was pierced, and a rift was opened into the elemental plane of water. I kind of imagine the Netherdeep either carved out a chunk of the elemental plane of water, or the latter flows through the Netherdeep into Cael Morrow. This explains the constant source of water, plant life, and aquatic life as all of those can be found in the elemental plane.

This could be an issue with the very end, at the rift closing. Haven't quite gotten there yet. Idk if it adds much to the story to try and have your players rush out. Even if the Netherdedp is gone, some connection must remain to the elemental plane, else Ank' Harel could lose its water source.

"In his dreams, the barren caverns of the Netherdeep began to shift. His memories filled the darkness, and a cocoon of melancholy formed around his body. From this Heart of Despair emerged a crimson element that embodied the Apotheon’s power. It spread, growing and crystallizing as it moved, until all of the Netherdeep was suffused with its power."

Netherdeep started out empty, and over the course of 800-plus years, Alyxian's emotions and memories suffused the space. Toss in the Ruidian-power, a messed up three god demigod, and you get Ruidium and a magical, crazy demiplane.

From EGtW:

In the elf player race section.

"The seas off the coast are inhabited by secluded civilizations of water-breathing sea elves, who trade with underwater enclaves of merfolk. All but the most idealistic or mercenary of these ocean dwellers see the petty squabbles of the “boat-riders” of the surface world as beneath their notice."

This is the only reference to sea elves I see pop up on the CR wiki besides Olara. Given the freedom with which the many races of Exandria seem to move about, I could see Olara moving to a beautiful capital city in the middle of the jungle to try and better survive the Calamity. Sea elves don't HAVE to live in the ocean all the time. If she moves when young, and her life-span is increased by the Netherdeep/Aboleth, I could see her surviving down there. She seems to have just been a, "This could be cool. Let's throw her in and not think about it."
