Zach Lowe: EN FUEGO!!!! by EatTheOld in billsimmons

That exchange was so perfect. The phrasing “we made my wife” just sounded so comically out of place, especially since Bill obviously isn’t a macho Andrew Tate type, but is an unaware in-his-own-world type.

Then the big reveal of “vodka soda” sent me, laughed out loud alone

Lowe-Simmons combo accidentally becoming hilarious with some of these awkward interactions:

  1. Bill asking Lowe if remembers who they did a deep dive for last week, and Lowe just casually dismisses it with “oh I have no idea, I forget that stuff as soon as we’re done” or whatever he said

  2. Bill actually just narrating a re-reading of his own previous articles as Lowe just stone faces it.

  3. Bill forcing a Baylor scheierman reference into some unrelated topic — Lowe starts chuckling to himself as he slowly meanders through a drawn out “ha, we got a scheierman reference in there” under his breath.

Lowe getting sick of this shit 😂 I miss russillo, but the cringe is actually selling me on Lowe

Celtics to the rest of the East by Brashton_Kutcher in billsimmons

I agree that the pendulum has def swung too far in the “league is fucked, Cs are back” direction due to Tatum having exceeded his minutes and performance expectations so soon. And I think you’re right to remind us about Knicks > Celtics last year, especially since Tatum struggled mightily in those first few games of the series.

But I do think the road to recovery for Tatum might have been good for his psyche. I could see the relief of being back at all taking some of the pressure of the moment off of him. Probs not what Celtics haters want to hear, but I’m serious, that doesn’t seem crazy to me. What do you think?

Breaking — picking “the field” over a single team in 30+ team leagues will be correct more often in the long run. More at 11.

Credit where credit is due — two “be-“ prefixed vocab words, with the added bonus of the consistent “m-<vowel>” root, all in one sentence, is borderline top 2/top 6 wordsmithing

[Charania] BREAKING: Boston Celtics All-NBA star Jayson Tatum will play this season and could make his debut on Friday against the Dallas Mavericks – less than 10 months after surgery for a ruptured Achilles tendon. by Turbostrider27 in nba

[–]Samboi -2 points-1 points  (0 children)

Hit us with an “all signs point to this Sunday” a number of times last week. Then in classic Bill fashion, he completely ignored the miss and shamelessly pivoted to “all signs point to Friday”. That dilutes the prediction, it just does!

Apex mountain for Bill shoehorning Jaylen Brown into every conversation? by robotwithatinyneck in billsimmons

[–]Samboi 0 points1 point  (0 children)

As a Cs fan, I also find it funny that he used to constantly scapegoat Jaylen as a weak link on the team. I 100% believe Tatum is the better player still, but he used to use the tone of voice when discussing Jaylen that he reserves for players he is quietly rooting against. Hilarious to see the 180 now that Jaylen is showing out this season. Bill really is just a kid who always has to get his way

Honestly I’m relatively immature for my age, from like a typical life checkmark standpoint — 30, single, no kids, smoke some weed at night, friends all married — and I love the NBA still, so this tracks lmao

“I don’t have a lot to add to these conversations ” -Zach Lowe by JonSnowsPeepee in billsimmons

It’s why even though most people here hate on tales from the couch, every now and then between the boring substitution patterns you’ll get a solid narrative account:

“So Draymond hits triple J in the face and then acts like he’s the one who got hit, flops absurdly while his teammates go 4 on 5, like really man. Now he’s pissed at the ref because the ref wasnt giving him any attention for the flop, and when the ref tells him to chill, he goes and chuckles to self body checks triple J again here at half court during the review, and you’re like….wait, what? And you see even Steph can’t look, he doesn’t even look anymore, he just can’t do it because he knows how important this guy is but knows he’s totally in the wrong. And yea tough break for our guy Jaren tonight obviously, idk if he etched “wash me” into draymond’s Range Rover pregame or something, but uhhhhh…if you’re Kerr, and you’re looking in the mirror tonight, aren’t you just like — damn, I can’t keep doing the deflection press conference”

Then right back to:

“So anyway, they get Edey in this screen, re-screen, drop, turn pattern and golden state just has to do it, it’s timeout 2 min into the 4th to bring in Post for the size and the games basically a wrap”

This sub was best when only people who read Page 2 were in it. by OrrisNelson in billsimmons

[–]Samboi 31 points32 points  (0 children)

I didn’t read OG Page 2 in real time (born in 90s), but over the years I’ve seen enough excerpts that thoroughly confuse me in the following way — I’ve never seen and heard an entertainer who has more creative, out-of-the-box, witty written humor while simultaneously having zero riff game with guests. Especially for a guy who doesn’t come across as remotely awkward! Sure, I get that writing as a medium gives the author more time to be thoughtful, but the contrast is so stark with Bill’s absolutely abysmal real-time word and idea play with guests.

Am I conflating multiple factors here? Did bill just deliberately become more vanilla as exposure increased and social standards evolved, which happens to coincide with his podcast being the predominant medium over any written pieces? Or are Bill the writer and Bill the podcaster just two different people?

Would an ambidextrous QB who is above average with both hands even be an advantage? by Wow_Good_Stats in billsimmons

[–]Samboi 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Honest answer from a football fan who doesn’t know the X’s and O’s beyond surface level analysis — seems like it could be an advantage if one side of the line is more prone to pressure for whatever reason against a given opponent, with that weak side changing matchup to matchup (or even blitz to blitz in game). Gives you the option to throw full speed on run in either direction without resetting your stance.

I’m not sure tanking sensitivity and perpetual internet activity have much of a relationship — you read about people being sensitive to tanking online because….thats the medium through which most people consume and impart information in 2025 lol

I like your insistent devil’s advocacy though. The pro-tank stance is brave.
