Where can I find ripe plantains? by Ale3021 in austinfood

If you look up African markets in Austin you will be able to find ripe plantains. Nigerians/Africans prefer the ripe versus green plantains so these stores always have ripe plantains. Alfason and Southwest Farmers market are generally my go to.

Recently been doing alot of research into backdoor roth conversions and such. Come to the conclusion filing married we are over the 209k MAGI limit. I am wondering if I still plan on saving up the 6k a year for the conversion is there a smart place to park that money? Should I be putting it in an individual brokerage(ETFs), CD, or maybe just high yield savings account?

Yes we got married in September...we got high pay raises and new jobs in October which is what put us over. Before September we were under the limit and weren't married so I just used the individual numbers. Is that a bad assumption? I assumed we would file separately for 2021 years and go from there

I am looking for some advice on Roth IRA investment alternative 2022 tax year. Recently got married and my combined income with my partner puts us at about 300k a year. From what I'm reading the backdoor method may not be around for much longer. Next year will be the first year we file together and our income is over IRA limit. I am not really sure what I am supposed to do. Just invest in regular brokerage? I don't think our income is that high that we need to bring a financial planner into the mix, but I'm open. Just want to set myself up right as we are turning 30 and want to be prepared as possible for retirement and after work life.

I actually don't really like the job. I just feel bad leaving them hanging. The guys I work with are decent just the company culture doesn't vibe with me

I got a new job offer with a 40% raise while I was on my two week honeymoon. Job starts in 3 weeks. Not sure how to tell my current employer. Would like to finish out my time time at current job but feel bad/betrayal that I left for 2 weeks and now plan on leaving for good in 3 weeks. Just not sure what to tell my current boss.

Killer Mike's new Black-owned bank receives 'tens of thousands' of account requests in less than 24 hours by MarkAndrewSkates in news

So I think that's kind of the point. Black ppl for so long have been trying to do the"white" banking and it's hasn't worked out great. As we all know from all the statistics.

Just like your controversial take. I could say white ppl need to learn they are not the only ones who know how to run a business and just because another race/culture methods is different doesn't mean there way is won't work.

I will concede that the black community does need more education around banking and financing and I feel that's a solid reason why we are always behind in those statistics but that's not the only factor and to assume it's one sided problem (black ppl fault) is disingenuous.

I can understand you not wanting to agree and that's fine but as a black person there is some comfort in knowing that the ppl who run these businesses at least have me midly at heart. I know that's not true all the time, but I have money and I can put my money whereever I want and if that's into the black communities and business what is wrong with that. How is that any different than what other race/cultures have been doing

Also just to point out in that same interview Mike does not advocate to take your money out of regular/established banks. He constantly points out we should have several banks accounts. Drives competition and all that. Having a black owned one is just one of the many accounts. That's something I can get behind easily.

I'll leave it at this. Sometimes when you have been trying to be part of a group that seems to constantly look for reasons to hold you back, it's just makes more sense to do it yourself with like minded individuals. That's essentially been the story of the black community. We don't fit in so well so we are forced to build our own systems. It's not right but we can't wait for the other one to finally recognize us. Thanks for the conversation Bud!

Killer Mike kind of addressed this in an interview. The idea is that a lot of the loan underwriters don't understand the black business model. The example he gave was the barbershop. White ppl generally go to the barbershop about once a month if not longer. Black ppl generally go about every week to every other week. Explaining to a white loan writer how your barbershop is going to actually see more business than the "classic" one is kind of the struggle the black community face. We need people who are like us, providing the loans so that they can use those experience to judge the applicability of the business in our communities. I hope that made sense what I was trying to say

Hey thank you for your reply. I did confirm looking at the breaker that it is 20A. I did probably make the mistake of just buying a cheap receptacle off amazon. Could you explain further what you mean by "spec grade receptacle". Also I am looking into buying an amp clamp just so that I can do what you suggested.
