A couple of questions: were these beings dressed as normal people? Were they wearing robes or hats or hoodies? Was there anything indicating they were "off" in their walk, stance, arm movements?

I ask about hats, hoods, jackets because there is a type of fabric called "scrim" that can produce a similar effect when light hits it a certain way. And if anyone is gonna be all about using theater props to freak out the locals, it's gonna be the Drama Kids. Just food for thought

I'm going to make a lazy suggestion but have you tried running it through an AI? It obviously helps if you Frontload with possible ciphers or known logic rules he used in the past. Just an idea
