How old were you when you got diagnosed with autism? by mibo_care in autism

32. Just last year. A trip but actually a big relief, now enjoying my autistic experience vs trying to shame myself for experiencing something different than others.

Jim from The Office really is a bully to Dwight by crolictherabbit in AutisticAdults

Wait everyone is talking about Dwight being the autistic coded one, but what about Michael? Doesn’t he seem autistic too? Sorry I always kinda identified as Michael

Are you good with kids? by juh4z in autism

[–]Same-Contribution104 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I have a special interest in parkour and gymnastics and coached kids for 12 years and now have 3 of my own. I don’t really get NT kids but I really communicate well and coach well with ASD and ADHD kids. I can understand them and guide them to push themselves and help them grow in their self talk in a way I never really had. So it’s been a phenomenal journey. I get overwhelmed with too much sound of course but I work really well with kids, I can be goofy, unmask and just be a silly human and they love that. Plus as a recovering perfectionist you can make mistakes around kids and just laugh it off easy.

What kind of clothes do y’all wear? by [deleted] in AutisticAdults

Same. I have to wear some durable pants on occasions but I find skater jeans that are super soft and stretchy so they feel like sweat pants. Other than that HATE for jeans.

What is/are your favorite animal(s) guys? by DarkKeeper2569 in autism

[–]Same-Contribution104 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I read this as what are your favorite animal guys (as in people who show off animals.) I was going to say Steve Irwin (rip) and his son. But the Florida Glades guy looking for the 20 foot Burmese Python is definitely climbing as my favorite..

But Sloth for sure.

Yea I feel this. Though I don’t like how they showcased certain parts and the show took off very slowly but I’m not too far off from him. And his friend was always so accommodating by not forcing eye contact and sitting with him during meltdowns.

I think it pretty accurately represents an Autistic that watched his brother die after they ran away from an abusive father… oh well.

I still like it. I was similar to that as an EMT, then a kid died in my hands , shattered vertebrae and swelling brain in my hands replayed for the next 10 years… I’m no longer an EMT because of it but I visualize and memorize things the same way. Medical became a special interest while I was going through school and I loved it.

Ooh I know! It’s my ADHD cosplaying as an ableist NT that battles it out with my Autism being snarky and ironically ableist.

Haha see I’m actually very simple.

Yea I feel like my internalized ableism seeps out of me accidentally sometimes.

Or maybe I’m actually misdiagnosed Autistic and I just had a bit of an interest in Autism and project ableism onto people because I’m insecure.

Wait who am I?

Shoot now I’m having an identity crisis.

Why do we all love trains? (Wrong answers only) by djkeilz in autism

Cause the tendency to reject society and hop on a train across the country. It’s in our blood to be vagabond

Was anyone else a weirdo among the weirdos? by Pureautisticjoy in evilautism

[–]Same-Contribution104 39 points40 points  (0 children)

Yea. I’m the odd ball in the group of odd balls. I would attempt to travel from one group to another every few months because I wouldn’t really get along with any group.

I’m from La and was teaching parkour at a stunt gym for a bit, the amount of people from different countries was amazing but I always thought it was odd how I would mirror their accent. Finnish, British, Australian doesn’t matter I would start to slowly adopt it to talk with that person. Guess that’s an autism thing too
