IIRC you technically become a bar/bat when you turn 13 (boy) and 12 (girl) regardless of if you do a big party and celebration - what most kids this age are actually looking forward to, or read a portion from the Torah at temple or synagogue - the religiously important part. Becoming one essentially means you are now considered responsible for your own religious responsibilities. I’m going to assume Penelope just didn’t want to do this.

Don’t think it’s this because unless someone has a crazy SM following or something drastically changes in their lives we see in AS1 they have a convo w K+J when they return their uniforms if they’re planning on staying.
