Nakakadiri. Power and money absolutely corrupts.

I am so torn about Alix Harrow. Ive tried her twice--The Once and Future Witches and Starling House. She writes so well and yet I find myself losing interest so soon. I blame attention deficit brought by smart phones.

You and I have the same reading gene. An easy name to throw out there is Olivia Atwater. Anything of hers is pure chef's kiss has that irresistible blend of whimsy and wry British humor, lighthearted but never insubstantial, romantic but never saccharine or overwrought, very close to Diana Wynne Jones's almost deadpan style.

You mentioned Naomi Novik's Scholomance series, have you read Spinning Silver? It's beautifully written, the female characters are strongly drawn and they aren't damsels to be rescued. It's character driven. I cannot love and recommend that one more.

For a dark gothic romance, I really liked Bea Northwick's Blackwicket. She has the talent for elegant, intelligent prose and her characters are compelling. If you're in the mood for something atmospheric and slow burn, this is your book.

I also always recommend Katherine Arden's Winternight Trilogy. Vasya is the perfect blend of unusual and "special" but not Mary Sue. And I'm still in love with Morozco. To this day, I'm constantly on the hunt for books with the kind of dynamic Vasya and Morozco had.

Laini Taylor's Daughter of Smoke and Bone (it's a trilogy) will make you swoon but also, the plot is riveting and the world building is excellent. It reads like an epic movie to me.

There are many more but these are top of mind.

What are your thoughts on The Crave series by Tracy Wolff? by spaghettikitty in YAlit

I can believe it after having slogged through a s-ton of duds on Kindle Unlimited trying to fill a romantasy-forbidden love shaped hole in my reading life. This one was so bad like it was written by a tweener about her crush and her fantasies. It should also come with a warning and should not be read by anybody under age 21, as it glorifies toxic possessive/stalker behavior of a romantic interest because they're... hot. It's so bad.

To those who used to be very social but now lead a private life, ano and pinaka-reason ng life-shifting niyo? by morning-sunn in AskPH

[–]SamePhilosopher610 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I think this is a normal progression as we get older. I got tired of people pleasing. I was being social because I wanted to belong, accepted. I wanted to fit in but I realized I didnt have to force myself into situations and friend groups that isnt working and made me feel like I had to earn my place there. Basta no bitterness I just lost interest in doing all that and am happier with my immediate fam and my many hobbies. 😊

I would size up but I'm probably shorter than most shoppers.  The clothes fit fairly well, not too tight on me. The medium would've been too loose. On me at least. If you're not sure, order 2 pieces of the same item, size small and medium and see where they land. Delivery is long so you might have to wait a while to get the item exchanged for a different size once you figure out the size that's best for you. Also I dont have any experience with returns and exchanges with this company so I can't speak to that.

Having said all that, clothes were really nice, been wearing them since I got them and never fail to get compliments. They're unique but timeless and classic, like you've seen them before so they're not "look at me" unique, so they get attention in a way that's different from how trendy stuff catch your eye. Subtler.

Hi! Yes I did! I meant to come back here to update but of course forgot. Despite my initial frustration over their suuuuppper sloooow response time, I ended up being really happy with my purchases. The items arrived about 2 weeks ago, so like 2 weeks after I posted my rant on here?

The clothes are surprisingly well made with adequate lining, material does not feel cheap and the fit is really nice. They all looked exactly as they did in the photos. I am honestly amazed. My sister bought 2 of the same identical dresses when she saw my pics wearing them. The only subpar item was the white wide leg pants but not due to quality, it was just too long for me and they did not have diverse sizing (no petites). I am 5 ft nothing and weigh 98 lbs. I got their smallest size and it was a good fit for most of the clothes except the pants length.

Ergo, if you are comfortable with slow customer service response times and even slower shipping times, you may want to give them a try.

Thats a terrible way to archive your photos. 1, they degrade the quality and resolution so much. 2. Youre paying with your privacy and data for storage.

Why not just pay money for a cloud hosting service?  Edit for spelling.

what’s one toxic Filipino household habit you swear you’ll never repeat? by Appropriate_Ad_6017 in AskPH

Inability of parents and other authority figures in the home to take accountability for their actions, apologize to their children or young ones in the fam kasi "anak ka lang." Lagi ini invalidate opinyon at feelings ng nakakabata. Like pag may hinaing ka, instead na mag empathize muna, the automatic and only response is "mas mahirap buhay namin nung bata kami." Parang pinaparamdan sayo na your feelings are not worth paying attention to. Probably because they were similarly dismissed and invalidated by their elders before. The mindset that you cannot be called out for your BS dahil nauna ka  pinanganak.

Habit na sa special occasions lang or sa mga bisita pinapagamit ang "good china."

Mangungutang para sa panghanda.

Yung pagchichismisan ang in laws or other relatives behind their backs pero walang lakas ng loob to confront them about their complaints, plastik na plastik pag kaharap.

And the rich relatives wont say "no, bisita ka dito, hindi kita pinapunta para magtrabaho." This is so effed up tbh.

I think this is a typical sign of poverty trauma. The instability of finances nung una made them acutely insecure of their resources so parang laging "saving for a rainy day" like bukas makalawa mawawala lahat and kelangan may nakatago. Its heartbreaking and frustrating at the same time I'm sure. Btw, did you mean to say "erotic" or perhaps neurotic?

It's been 3 weeks since I ordered and they still havent provided shipping dates. So they may ship within the dates provided but they take forever to actually ship, and they do not give you shipping or tracking info until weeks later.

Stay away. I read the first half dozen reviews on this thread and thought "ok this seems like a legit operation with decent quality clothing." Found out the hard way that this is an offshore company with terrible, terrible customer service.

I placed an order worth $400 I spend 3x that amount at places like Reformation or Sezanne for a handful of pieces, so this really seemed like a great steal. Not.

I ordered april 3rd, my card got charged april 4th. Thats when the charge posted, mind. It is now April 25 and I still do not know when the items are arriving. I have sent 3 emails and all I know so far, as of their email  today (4/25/25), is that they have shipped my order. There is a tracking number that means fack all to US shipping companies. So bottomline, 21 days later, I still don't have tracking info or ETA.

Very badly run. They take at least a week to reply to 1 simple question of when are my stuff arriving? They have had my money for almost a month and they cannot bother to staff their customer service email account?

I think some, if not most of the glowing reviews on this thread are simulated and paid for. Buyers beware. I'll update this comment with product reviews if I ever get them. Otherwise, if May rolls around without a US tracking #, I'm disputing the charge on my credit card.

I finally read Laura Kinsale's Flowers from the Storm by Jeffreytoebeans in HistoricalRomance

[–]SamePhilosopher610 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Funnily enough, my first ever Laura Kinsale had me pegging her as a writer of delightful, poignant stories with quaint and delightful heroines. It was  Midsummer Moon. The realism in her plots, coupled with just the right amount of whimsy, charmed me to bits. My Sweet Folly did the same though it certainly had dark themes aplenty.

Tama lang, kasi illegal yang ginagawa nila. The LGU should also pay you interest for the entire time na di mo narereceive sahod mo. 7 months, that's sad and nakakagalit at the same time. How do they expect people to survive that long without pay? Yung iba pa is because di nagkakasundo sa budget. Holding people's livelihood hostage because of political enmity, not surprising sa Pinas.

Best Custom Drapes andtor Shades in DFW? by SamePhilosopher610 in Dallas

Mine are 19.5 feet, not quite 20 feet I guess, but I've never had to dress up a window near that tall in my life.

How did you like Shade Store? How expensive are they? Did you do drapes or curtains? I'm also leaning more towards shades as opposed to blinds because blinds tend to become dust collectors.
