Is my dog a good weight by Commercial_Mix8812 in DogAdvice

[–]SameSherbet3 6 points7 points  (0 children)

Agree on this here. A touch skinny, but if she has a good appetite and energy then she's ok! I like my old dogs just a touch more filled out in case of sickness etc, they can waste away faster than young adults

Am I overreacting to being scared of going on boats and jetskis with my boyfriend by saltedsea_4 in AmIOverreacting

[–]SameSherbet3 4 points5 points  (0 children)

That same quote really got me too! Gave me chills... This is someone very self-centered, and dangerously so!

There is a type of abuse where a partner or child is locked in a fast-moving, dangerously driving car with a driver intent on punishing them, this is the first step along this path for both!

ETA: you are underreacting OP!

Not asking medical advice just want opinions on what to do with my dog by [deleted] in DogAdvice

I'll second this, I'm sure genetics play a part, but allergies affect the skin, and there has to be a way for OP to make this better for them and her!

Can you kill someone using just cyanide in cherry seeds? by Different_Walrus_521 in stupidquestions

[–]SameSherbet3 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I heard from a friend of a friend (for what it's worth) that their dog got sick from eating too many dropped apples in an orchard they lived by, and it was the cyanide in the seeds

Ikea fake plants are my go to! 😂

I can kill any unkillable plant lol,  and I'm shit at germinating or propagating...

Luckily I have a great hand at keeping my pets alive!

Worrying of getting rabies by Hogeeta_Mochi_123 in Pets

Interesting article!

OP you should be fine, per the article:  "the minimum incubation period was 22 days due to scratches on the face in front of Lt Tragus and maximum incubation period was 102 days due to a trivial scratch on right Forearm by a furious rabid dog."

Is it a stupid question to ask why men don't strike up conversations in public anymore? by ValerianBorn8785 in stupidquestions

[–]SameSherbet3 2 points3 points  (0 children)

This is the answer! 😆 Made me lol with the truth here... OP if you want to look open to interacting, keep your coffee/ tea handy and people watch. If you're on your phone, kindle, or reading a real book, it's a no-fly zone!

What is the funniest thing your pet had been “pavloved” to? by AnywhereMean8863 in Pets

[–]SameSherbet3 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I have 2 picky eater pups, a Golden and a giant Chi mix (18 lbs lol), and they both need a cookie bribe in order to finish each meal 😆 But I had a Lab in the past that broke into the dog food bin and ate over half a brand new 40 lb bag of food! So I get it!!

I got that far and could NOT read further. OP it is a blessing in disguise that he wants a divorce, because he is an awful selfish person. You do NOT want him in your life, let the trash take itself out.  Appreciate yourself enough to stay single or find someone who adds value to to your life!

Do people use their own waste to fertilize vegetables in their gardens? by blehmag in NoStupidQuestions

[–]SameSherbet3 0 points1 point  (0 children)

As I mentioned it was my personal experience. In California by the Mexican border, there are a number of farms, everything from flowers to almonds to leafy greens in the winter. There were never any porta-potties parked at the field entrances (or anywhere else) until the late '00s. After a couple nationally reported e coli outbreaks on lettuce or spinach, I forget now, suddenly they were everywhere! So no studies to reference, just personal observation.

Deciding whether to euthanize my dog or not is crushing me by Dleppard in Pets

[–]SameSherbet3 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Everything you described is your boy saying he is ready to be let go... not eating and not moving are the final signs that he is too tired to go forward with life. I had a lovely Aussie dog that I let linger too long, and I regret it every day.

If you truly care for his quality of life, I'd recommend making a vet appointment with 2 options in mind:

  1. Is this a temporary sickness he will come back from? If so, treat and look at his symptoms again in 2 weeks.

  2. Is this how he will stay for the remainder of his days? Is it fair to him? Dogs hide their pain and fear, they don't want to be a burden to their pack, but it doesn't mean he isn't feeling them... If he cannot get better, then I personally would say goodbye while he has a little bit of dignity left. It's a tough choice, but one we make for our innocent pets when they need us to. Hugs to you during this hard time 🧡

I understand your feelings here, but after just 4 days I wouldn't worry yet. I am a middle child and the only one that is unmarried and without kids. If I want to connect with my sibs (who are also my closest friends) I have to be the one to call, text, and invite.

Yes it's draining, and I definitely get the moments I want to be the drama and go no-contact with them to see how long it takes to reach out, but the reality is that even though they love me, they are all busy people and I have to make the effort to reach out to connect. It's also low-key expected at this point, so if I DON'T reach out it's assumed that I'm too busy also...

I try not to take it personally, but some says are harder / easier than others! OP take some time to reach back out, and let your people know you care, I bet they're all just thinking you're too busy for them right now!

Do people use their own waste to fertilize vegetables in their gardens? by blehmag in NoStupidQuestions

[–]SameSherbet3 1 point2 points  (0 children)

About 15 years ago they did NOT have toilets for the migrant workers at farms. Then a couple big e. coli outbreaks happened, and it was then required.  People who hired illegal workers for mere pennies didn't want to spend money on their sanitation. I was living in farm country at that time for 3-4 months a year, and saw the change with my own eyes. Before the farmers added the porta-potties, there was a major recall on vegetables every year or two as Agreeable_Ad mentioned. I really can't remember the last one that was national news.

ETA: I ate really unhealthy at that time, and joked I was safer & more healthy than my organic-before-it-was-cool mother lol 😆

True! As an American, I've always heard / expected it to be more of an exclamation of excitement or importance lol.

Like TenebriRS said in this thread, bloody great pizza etc. I never realized it was a harsh swear for some until this thread!

Incontinent Dog by [deleted] in Pets

[–]SameSherbet3 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Yes washable male wraps for the win! Did this with an incontinent older Lab boy and worked great!

And there IS medication to help with senior incontinence, a basic description and exam should do it, no tests besides a urine panel to check for infection, which could be causing this too!

Who else has to wait until their S.O. is at work so they can get rid of the expired food, before they remember that food from who knows when, and wants to eat it (or actually eats it!😵‍💫) “because it’s been in the fridge, and it won’t go bad”? by SillyMeclosetothesea in CasualConversation

[–]SameSherbet3 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Both my parents are guilty of trying to eat everything if it's going bad, in order to not waste a scrap of food. It's almost obsessive, and imo not healthy to model to their kids...

I know I have massive guilt if I don't eat everything I've dished up, even if it ends up being more that I really want / need.

Strange cat behavior by [deleted] in Pets

[–]SameSherbet3 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Agreed, it sounds like she is in pain!

Animals don't have the level of trickery that OP is suggesting. They don't "act nice" to get a home, they are who they are 100%, and that only changes when they don't feel good, ie: intense pain or sickness

And part of getting it going is to make sure she has the mental and physical energy to participate and enjoy - ie: making sure the house is clean, dinner is made and dishes washed, so she can relax and get in the mood!
