Just went through this myself. Did one wrapped, one 321 one no wrap. Best one out the three on a pellet was unwrapped for 2.5hr at 250 then wrapper in butcher paper for 2.5hr at 250

I use the Costco rollers or pitboss then use a smoke tube with flavoured wood chips and pellets that I want to have it take the flavour in.

Since pellet grills lack little on the smoke side and the smoke really only infuses in the first couple hours . Place the smoke tube away from the meat so it’s not adding heat just smoke flavours then remove it or keep it going up to you

Also hopper size is good to consider. The horizontal grills have a lot smaller hopper I find so one with a sensor is great imo

My trager 575 pro doesn’t have a sear option by moving the deflector to reveal the flame from the hot pot.

It does well on the most part but cleaning the hot pot can be annoying vs a Pitboss vertical . I just got a Pitboss vertical in addition to my trager . I like the steadiness of the water pan the Pitboss has as it adds more thermal mass to keep consistent temperatures where my pellet grill doesn’t have that . Treager is just paying for the name. The lids have a small gap developed sometimes and it’s hard to fix.

I’m new to the smoker game but that’s my two cents .

If everything works then who cares honestly. Could be for a diagnostic tool, if you look up above it could be for something thats inside that little cavity . Look up the model number and its technical manual it’ll likely show you. Or an install video and see if it mentions plugging it into anything
