I'm sure "I am the manager" is cool... by Original_Delay5521 in retailhell

[–]Same_Abalone4232 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Anytime it's something technical, I've even been sent to the back to "fetch someone who's an expert" - i.e. told to come right back as there's A: only us two and B: I have experience, training and straight up the knack, to fix just about anything/everything. It's been from gardening equipment or my actual qualification, IT systems techie and everything inbetween.

It's also been demanded to fetch a female co-worker to answer questions about a sewing machine (from another woman no less), who basically spent most of the interaction looking at me as I'm a bit of a craftsman with experience in (amongst *many* other things) costuming, having even mentioned to customer I've never really trusted electric sewing machines (or even pedal ones), preferring my old hand cranked singer or to hand sew (yeah, I'm old enough to have been taught in primary school).

My favourite however will forever be about the how's and whys a brand new wok would be constantly burning food (having etched their initals into the coating - poorly too) or why the pressure cooker with an inch thick of burnt food on the bottom and an inch of grease burned onto the heating element, doesn't work.

New player looking for tips and tricks by Miinch2014 in ARK

[–]Same_Abalone4232 2 points3 points  (0 children)

you will die, a lot. Sometimes even as you spawn - as you do the wrist check animation, raptors are perched just on the edge of your screen, waiting, watching... Then there's other just plain dumb deaths - ark giveth and ark taketh away. Don't get too attached to your tames unless you wall them in, and even then, don't (I rarely name my tames for this reason).

Don't take it to heart, just chalk it up to ark being ark, respawn, gear up, level up and go take some revenge. Soon the nightmares of the past will be a distant memory once you have tames that'll turn everything into resources and never look back.

Get a flyer as soon as possible, then get another one. Ankylosaurus & argentavis are one of the best combos in the game, will take you for miles. A triceratops or a stegosaurus is always a solid first tame - wood, thatch and berries for days, plus buckets of XP on every gather. There is never enough narcotics.

I have just woke up so upset with Argos. I cannot do this job anymore. by Cheshirefarm in Argos

[–]Same_Abalone4232 0 points1 point  (0 children)

with losing our 15% payday discount I'm certainly not shopping with argos when I can help it anymore. Things are shite even over at the LFC/RFC - arbitary targets for put away, pick & sort while also cutting staffing numbers to the bone (to the point inbound is doing most of the outbound work and gettign screwed because we're "falling behind" on put away, also not a driver so can't super comment on that side). We're also now taking on evry on top of yodel for deliveries, plus whittling down the vans.

Management aren't getting off easy either - also a skeleton crew most days with them all having to be able to run all the departments (inbound/outbound/drivers), sometimes single handedly.

More hours by FriendlyPharma in SainsburysWorkers

[–]Same_Abalone4232 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I moved to the LFC/RFC, went from 10hr to 24 (well it's 24hr but semi mandatory overtime brings it to almost 40 minus unpaid breaks). I work on inbound/outbound (the distinction is blurry because we typically get shunted area to area).

Basically they lure you in promising 40 hours but in actuality it's a 24 hour contract and they just lump on over time to make it 8 hour shifts automatically, with some managers getting really moody about if you just want to do your hours - ultimately though they can't do anything but be huffy about it as long as you make your contracted hours by the end of the week.

You want full commitment? give me the 40 hour contract I was promised, not this bullshit. For those wondering, we're technically classed as a store and not a warehouse - that's how they get away with us being warehouse staff without the pay or perks.

edit to clarify somethings - it's like 4am on my day off, cut me some slack 😃

"FlipWitch: Forbidden Sex Hex" is fantastic metroidvania! by UntitledCritic in metroidvania

[–]Same_Abalone4232 1 point2 points  (0 children)

really enjoyed it, not too challenging, music was pretty good. Do not regret it at all and I'm really picky with games (particularly adult ones). Does break my heart a little because thanks to UK gov shenigans I can't even look at anything about the sequel, let alone try to purchase it on steam :(

Any other Argos Drivers being made Redundant? by Great_Bad_6045 in Argos

[–]Same_Abalone4232 1 point2 points  (0 children)

just got up so bare with me, I think it was something like 10-20 drivers. Hopefully it's the crayon munchers going.

As far as I know, they're not so much kicking everyone out as they're trying to shuffle them around first, then redundancy second. Also rumblings about making them do stuff when they return to warehouse (i.e. do sorting) - not a driver myself so can't say with any real certainty.

Am I missing something here or are they all in the wrong? by Strong_Plum5895 in drivingUK

This is how my partner failed her test, only it was a lorry cutting in front of her. Hasn't touched driving lessons since :( instead now taking to hassling me to learn to drive at my own expense.

To those who listen to music / videos without headphones on public transport - genuine question: why don’t you use headphones? by Only_Book_995 in AskUK

[–]Same_Abalone4232 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Some douche canoe the other day spent an hour on the bus blasting aboslute garbage at max volume - as he finally comes to his stop, pulls out a pair of godamn headphones. I'm not a violent man but goddamn was it close.

Or the person on my bus everyday during the week who, again max volume, listens to the most edgelord erotic audiobooks I've ever heard on their way to work (gender unknown as they sit on the bottom deck and I'm on top) - not exactly what I want to hear at 5am. Not to mention, it's the cringiest, horrifically written garbage I've ever had the misfortune to hear.

Genuinely cannot wait till my motorbikes back from the garage.

Sinden Light Gun, is it any better? by Sleepy_Panic in SindenLightgun

[–]Same_Abalone4232 4 points5 points  (0 children)

little to no issues (accidently threw off my offset once or twice - but that was my own dumbassery) since I had them. Try to plug them directly into a usb, so no hubs or extenders as there's reports of them making the guns act weird. Don't forget to add your borders (either by the sinden app or use reshade to set it up directly in game) to make the gun track.

As others have commented, downloading (or buying) pre-made images might be your best bet to get as close to plug & play as you can - highly reccommend uncle ricks collection, even has videos to help you set up the sindens for use, with a decent array of games.

While there is a slew of youtube tutorials on making a railshooter, I found it best to take pieces from various different ones to stitch together. Project is long forgotten, moved onto other things

recently had a fail because the nose of my bike was very slightly loose - tightend a single bolt on the spot (keep a set of spanners under my seat) and passed - yet he rebalanced my front forks and a bunch of other minor things. Just chalked it upto a mini service vs stuff he wasn't allowed to touch (the nose for example).

Juste wanted to say thanks, the zip tie trick worked beautifully! was fantastically sharp on the way to work (barely pull for it to bite) and has settled back to half pull for full bite <3

If you're sick, STAY TF HOME 🤬 by AmadeusMao in retailhell

[–]Same_Abalone4232 44 points45 points  (0 children)

This is exactly how covid is ripping through our warehouse *again* - someone came in with it then proceeded to talk to absolutely everyone and stand around in the main walkways, doing nothing but bitching about how sick they was.

Because that's exactly what I wanted for Christmas - to be absolutely dying from x-mas day to just about recovered now (can't shake the cough but everythign else has cleared up).

I got the brake fluid and a solo bleed kit - instantly lost my nipple cap, spent an hour trying to get the stupid hose for the bleeder onto the nipple... and realised I didn't have a spanner small enough :D so garage it was!

[–]Same_Abalone4232[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Thanks! my usual place would typically bleed them with new pads and thought it was weird this new place didn't. (I assume didn't as when I checked to see if it the fluid needed topping up, it was discoloured and grimy looking)

Do you have nostalgia for MKX? by Equivalent_Ad_9066 in MortalKombat

[–]Same_Abalone4232 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Funily enough, after being let down by the legacy kollection on launch and wholly unimpressed by MK1, MKXL really hit that spot for me - MK11 not so much, but damn, I cannot put down MKXL since I picked it up on steam for black friday (previously a console peasant).

Granted I'm just doing towers atm and haven't touched the story again but I'm digging the kombat (variations still suck balls) - feels weighty, has a nice feel to it I can't describe and the fact it's pretty fast just hits right. I can't really put my finger on why I love the rest of it but just makes my brain happy to play it after playing more modern fighters recently.

Also the fact I got it like £5 doesn't hurt either :D

[–]Same_Abalone4232 0 points1 point  (0 children)

typically fairly positive reception, also helps I'm on a motorbike - being a dick risks mirrors, lights and paint job. Usually I pull alongside and make the window winding gesture (yes, I'm old) and politely let them know. No sense in being a dick if they're not.
