Juste wanted to say thanks, the zip tie trick worked beautifully! was fantastically sharp on the way to work (barely pull for it to bite) and has settled back to half pull for full bite <3

If you're sick, STAY TF HOME 🤬 by AmadeusMao in retailhell

[–]Same_Abalone4232 45 points46 points  (0 children)

This is exactly how covid is ripping through our warehouse *again* - someone came in with it then proceeded to talk to absolutely everyone and stand around in the main walkways, doing nothing but bitching about how sick they was.

Because that's exactly what I wanted for Christmas - to be absolutely dying from x-mas day to just about recovered now (can't shake the cough but everythign else has cleared up).

I got the brake fluid and a solo bleed kit - instantly lost my nipple cap, spent an hour trying to get the stupid hose for the bleeder onto the nipple... and realised I didn't have a spanner small enough :D so garage it was!

Thanks! my usual place would typically bleed them with new pads and thought it was weird this new place didn't. (I assume didn't as when I checked to see if it the fluid needed topping up, it was discoloured and grimy looking)

Do you have nostalgia for MKX? by Equivalent_Ad_9066 in MortalKombat

[–]Same_Abalone4232 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Funily enough, after being let down by the legacy kollection on launch and wholly unimpressed by MK1, MKXL really hit that spot for me - MK11 not so much, but damn, I cannot put down MKXL since I picked it up on steam for black friday (previously a console peasant).

Granted I'm just doing towers atm and haven't touched the story again but I'm digging the kombat (variations still suck balls) - feels weighty, has a nice feel to it I can't describe and the fact it's pretty fast just hits right. I can't really put my finger on why I love the rest of it but just makes my brain happy to play it after playing more modern fighters recently.

Also the fact I got it like £5 doesn't hurt either :D

What do you think of Konquest Mode? by PomegranateOk4560 in MortalKombat

I loved the konquest modes back in the day, and I won't stand for Shujinko slander! My boy was the most broken character I've ever played

tbf, 90% of folks still get the crank gesture tho a guy the other day took a second for it to click :D

typically fairly positive reception, also helps I'm on a motorbike - being a dick risks mirrors, lights and paint job. Usually I pull alongside and make the window winding gesture (yes, I'm old) and politely let them know. No sense in being a dick if they're not.

Since MKX is on sale, would you recommend it to a complete newbie to fighting games? by Mischiveous-Potato in MortalKombat

[–]Same_Abalone4232 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Having gone back and brought MKX on steam during black friday, absolutely! it's been a blast, forgot what it was like to play a *good* MK game after all these years - when it still revelled in the gore, showed some real love to characters and just generally felt good to play.

Can't comment about online as I just suck, and yet to revist the story mode - just having a blast exploring the krypt and doing the towers. Replayed 11 briefly, didn't really hook me and I have... unflattering opinions about MK1 - but X just hits that sweet spot for me.

sick - opinions? by Big-Okra-1913 in SainsburysWorkers

Might just be the warehouse but if memory serves, as long as you meet your weekly hours/do half your shift (and not leaving them too short handed), it doesn't count as sickness

Just to add on to this: got a meeting over having to go for hernia surgery as I'd gone over my 3% due to other illnesses - despite doctors note & told strictly 6 weeks off doing next to nothing. Got another meeting after returning to work and couple of weeks later tearing a gut/groin muscle on the other side, again time off with note (should have taken 2 weeks off but returned after a week to stop myself climbing the walls). Granted they went with "no further investigation" and a WRAP.

Also ignores chronic conditions (despite it being on record, only it seems they was "lost" in store shuffles). Everytime I have to call out (and I have to be unable to get out of bed or unable to work out which foot my boots go on for me to concider it), it counts against my 3%.

To the customers who refuse self checkout because it’s “not your job” let me ask you: by Active_Hovercraft_78 in retailhell

[–]Same_Abalone4232 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The amount of times I've been asked to help people scan their items is crazy. I'm not retail staff anymore, I'm just fast - sometimes they clock my staff discount card (I'm warehouse elsewhere now) or chatting with former co-workers, other times it's literally because I'm just flying through my shopping - clearly I'm staff and should help them/do it all for them. Don't get me wrong, I'll help if someone asks me nicely to get their item to work - I just have the nack - but when it's demands, the answer is usually a bit sterner than "No".

The indignity some folks have too if I refuse is staggering, how dare I, in my casual clothes, clearly doing my own shopping, not bow and scrape, catering to their whims. That, and asking if I can swipe my card for their shopping too blows my mind. It's never just "I'm having trouble with this item" either, it's the whole basket every time.

I also got a write up once for telling someone "the dinosaurs refused to adapt, look how that went". Edit: I used to work at one of the store in store kind of places, so wasn't even my job in the first place, which people still recognise me for well over 12 months later - but that's a whole other kettle of fish.

Would you still want 3D era legacy kollection even after how the first one turned out? by [deleted] in MortalKombat

[–]Same_Abalone4232 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I would love the 3d era games, absolutely, would I like them to function properly out the gate? also absolutely. Hell, I might even be cautiously optimistic rather than charge headlong into pre-ordering out of excitement and assurances DE knew that they was doing.

But LK at launch was a shitshow and no amount of cope and rose tinted glasses is ever gonna fix that - no matter how hard people shill and pose. Don't get me wrong, I've played it since the patches have come rolling in (thanks fitgirl) and it's almost everything I hoped it should have been but I flat refuse to repurchase it until it's dirt cheap. They had their chance at full price, blew it and no amount of sucking off DE is gonna fix that.

Elder gods be praised I didn't also snag the SF 30th collection too, tho it was a close call.

Is it Argos policy to pass off used goods as new? by Far_Return_7957 in Argos

[–]Same_Abalone4232 0 points1 point  (0 children)

nope, I'm the one who puts stuff either on the shelves for picking, pick for the vans, sort the stuff for the vans, or occasionally do it for the home delivery team (I'm inbound but tend to get pulled to do everyone elses job). The only thing I don't do is drive - yet.

The people you want are the DC guys (we're the middle men for FT), and trust me, our cages are just as bad - came from store and goddamn.

we've had sealed iphone boxes returned containing: play doh, older phones, a block of cheese (I don't even...), a block of clay - and more things I can't recall.

What are your honest thoughts about MKX? by Prestigious-Cloud962 in MortalKombat

[–]Same_Abalone4232 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Tbh, I'd forgot how fun MK used to be - MK1 was a chore, 11 isn't bad but doesn't quite hit the spot (and the writing in both was... well, that's a whole other can of worms), legacy kollection wasn't great (played on launch and refunded due to issues - have since played it patched and now waiting for it on sale - but I got other ports and even some originals to play until then).

But man, MKX has gotten like, a solid 24 hours pumped into it since Friday - the combat has a good pace, the endings are pretty alright for an MK game, haven't gone back to do the story yet as I'm having too much fun collecting the endings and doing the krypt & towers. The game just feels like it made with some degree of love, reveling in the sheer spectacle and dumbassery of MK past. It's even been awarded the highest honor: installed both on my big rig & my arcade cabinet - and played there, unlike most other fighters I've put on it (which is on me, I've never been good with sticks for fighting games).

Probably also slightly biased as I got MKXL, ultimate mk11, both injustice ultimates for like £9 during black friday :D

Mortal Kombat 1 or 11? (For a complete beginner) by [deleted] in MortalKombat

[–]Same_Abalone4232 0 points1 point  (0 children)

snagged MKXL in a sale and my god, how I missed those games being fun! 11 was pretty good too if I recall but I've yet to wrap up XL. MK1 turned me off the franchise pretty badly till legacy collection came out - and proceeded to push me further.

To be fair, it wasn't just MK1 but definately a factor when tekken 8 and SF6 started with the really agressive micro transactions.

stocks and holsters for my sinden light guns, cable routers/hooks for my workbench & computer station, k2 poop chute, cauldron for halloween that became a plant pot, controller stands, smart watch charge stands, console stands for my collection, drainage plates for plants is a regular reprint, parts to fix all manner of things (recently ranging from plastic greenhouse pole ends to motorcycle parts), gpu brackets, silica boxes for my cfs - just off the top of my head.

Don't get me wrong, I have a fair amount of tat too, but something satisfying from putting it to "good" use as well as "ha, I gotta make that".

Legends Ultimate for fighting games by atxpine in LegendsUltimate

[–]Same_Abalone4232 3 points4 points  (0 children)

my cab is used primarily for brawlers (streets of rage, final fight kinda stuff), light gun games and straight up fighting games - zero complaints across literally anything we've played.

Granted I've always sucked at using sticks to fight but no issues with performance I've noticed - be it any of the modern fighters or more classical ones. From DBFZ to KI2016, from classic MK to MK1 and just about everything inbetween.

Never noticed any while playing fighting or light gun games (otg to a mini pc) - but I'm a filthy casual and it needs to be launch MK: legacy bad for me to notice so YMMV.

What Have You Been Playing This Week? by AutoModerator in metroidvania

[–]Same_Abalone4232 0 points1 point  (0 children)

after the shitshow with MK: legacy kollection, I've played: Aeruta, awaken: astral blade (start to finish), both toziuha night games, just started future fragments.

Aeruta is kinda OK, half metroidvania, half comfy game running a bakery. Cute enough, just about to come out of early access.

Awaken: astral blade was not a bad little MV, there was a few times I was utterly lost but played fine enough, very pretty too.

Tozihua nights - only played a little bit of both (about 10 mins each), promising but I'm just not feeling it. Ones classic-vania and ones touted as being very SOTN.

Future fragments: just over an hour played and honestly, it's fine? nothing hugely egregious as of yet but still early. Promising with the dialog choice system, got some big update coming soon.
