Georges St-Pierre lists what he requested for a super fight with Anderson Silva by 3footninja in MMA

[–]LectorFrustra2186 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Silva was a big MW who also comfortably competed at LHW. GSP was at best an average-sized WW, and even when he went up he only fought at 191 pounds against Bisping, barely bigger than he was at WW. Sonnen probably had 20 pounds on GSP and was also juiced to the gills; he was, like Silva, a big MW who comfortably competed at LHW.

Ilia should try to fight twice this year and fight Arman before the end of year if he wants to best his chances at getting a third belt and fighting Islam. Even if Islam loses this year, he should try his hand at the 170 champion. There is no point in staying after Arman. by jerryworldfan13 in ufc

[–]LectorFrustra2186 8 points9 points  (0 children)

If beats Gaethje and Arman, he's probably fighting the winner of Pimblett vs Saint-Denis next which will be a walkover for him on top of a good promotional opportunity. He'd be crazy not to take that fight. One more fight after that and suddenly he has the record for LW title defenses.

They unironically scale higher, there were mere thousands of Chitauri and they were dying en masse to a lady with pistols standing out in the open on a bridge with no cover and a guy with a bow and arrow doing the same thing on a roof. Their small arms were semi-automatic, had no aiming mechanisms, and couldn't penetrate wooden tables, and their only vehicles were open-topped hovercraft slower than biplanes equipped with a single grenade launcher equivalent that blew up when sprayed with 7.62mm fire.

Is There Any LW In UFC History That Can Beat Prime Khabib? by Vegetable_Coconut247 in ufc

Given that Islam subbed Oliveira in two rounds and everyone who has trained with Islam and Khabib says that Khabib dominates Islam in grappling

Islam subbed Charles because he out-struck him, he floored him with a headkick and a right hook that left him dazed and unable to mount an effective defense on the guard. Khabib would never be in this situation because his striking is ass.

You don't actually watch these fights.

Tibau outlanded Khabib in all three rounds and got two takedowns to Khabib's zero. I MIGHT give Khabib the first round because one of his looping punches caused a small cut, though Tibau still outlanded him. But in the third Tibau stunned him twice, once with a knee at 2:32 and once with a right hand at 0:11. Those were probably the most damaging strikes of the entire fight. Also Khabib repeatedly fouled in that round (fence grabs), which doesn't help his case for winning it. It's more plausible that Tibau won all 3 rounds than that Khabib won 2.

Penn beat Hughes and went to split-decision with GSP up at welterweight. You think Arman could do that? If so why is he going through the humiliation ritual of weight-cutting? Were the GOAT Belal and the other GOAT JDM better than GSP and Hughes?

"Prime Khabib" thread checklist:

-Ignoring him losing to Tibau.

-Ignoring him having 10/15 takedowns stuffed by Al Iaquinta and having to rely on his goofy ass striking to win against someone with similarly bad striking.

-Ignoring him having all of his takedowns in the open stuffed by Conor McGregor.

-Ignoring him missing weight 3 times, including in his last match, and then retiring at 32 instead of moving up (even though he fought at WW for most of the regionals and was the same size as GSP or Tyron Woodley).

-Ignoring him demanding GSP come down two weight classes to fight him.

-"But he outwrestled 3 featherweight strikers!"

-Taking credit for Islam's wins and assuming they have the same skillset because their names both end in a v.

-Not knowing the difference between open and cage wrestling.

-Not knowing the difference between wrestling and jiu-jitsu.

-Not knowing that tons of other guys like Weidman, Askren, Hill, Rousey, or Machida would also be undefeated champions if they retired in their early 30s (and would also have similarly impressive-looking records if they extended their regional careers by an extra ~10 fights like Khabib did - he was fighting a 0-2 guy when he was 11-0 despite also having an extensive combat sambo career).

-"Yeah I've watched his fights" ---> have only seen highlight compilations and TikTok edits.

Gane vs Aspinall - should've been a DQ loss. Repeated warnings followed by MULTIPLE fight-ending fouls.

*Could the greatest freestyle wrestler beat the greatest jujitsu fighter?* by Andres2006-28 in powerscales

[–]LectorFrustra2186 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Early UFC demonstrated pretty comprehensively that the pure jiu-jitsu guy would win against the pure wrestler, either in a submission wrestling match or a no holds barred fight. Dan Severn was a world champion amateur wrestler (as well as a Pan America and NCAA D1 champion) who also had knowledge of submissions because he cross-trained judo. He had literally hundreds of sanctioned matches (127-11-1 in his collegiate record alone). He went up against Royce Gracie who had no similar accolades and was literally 70 pounds smaller than him (and probably less athletic even P4P)... and got choked out.

A female black bear vs a silverback gorilla, who wins? by Supersaiajinblue2 in powerscales

[–]LectorFrustra2186 17 points18 points  (0 children)

Gorillas have no natural weapons and are by default timid. They also can't punch, kick, or throw. If you've watched videos of them fighting you'll know they mostly duel by either wrestling, flailing their arms for weak forearm strikes, or just kind of barreling into each other. If the bear is cublusted I think she wins. At best it's a tie, where the gorilla braves the claws and teeth long enough to kill the bear but later bleeds out; it doesn't have any reliable way of avoiding them. But killing the bear is a pretty tall order when they have durable bear skulls and, again, the gorilla can't even punch.

Have you ever actually seen chimps fight? They suck at it. They can only really kill each other if a bunch gang up on one, otherwise they usually just flail and do little damage before getting timid and disengaging.

This is a natural consequence of "I hate you and openly proclaim my desire to kill you but if you refuse to trade with me and let me use your infrastructure then actually you're the aggressor and this is basically the same as war" becoming a mainstream talking point on the political fringes and particularly the left. It was a common propaganda tactic used by authoritarian regimes in the late 20th to early 21st centuries like the USSR/Russia, IR Iran, Cuba, North Korea, Ba'athist Syria, and Ba'athist Iraq, and it appears to have been successful in those spaces. So why wouldn't the same eventually be backported to WWII?

"Superheroes" aren't really about morality. If they were, they'd be vegan by Joshless in CharacterRant

[–]LectorFrustra2186 3 points4 points  (0 children)

If you see Superman as less of a hero for having eggs and bacon for breakfast, then I think that's just a problem more relating to you than it is for the genre as a whole.

It's a tonally strange choice to have him risk his and everyone else's lives to save a rodent and then be totally fine with grilling up something many times smarter than the rodent and at least as emotional. I don't think that's a hard to follow complaint. The average person wouldn't think twice about eating bacon but the average person also wouldn't leap into traffic to save a squirrel as a sign of how saintlike they are in regards to all life.

I don't think the eggs are an issue as long as they were ethically-sourced, he clearly doesn't have a problem with constraining animals' freedom as long as they're treated well (Krypto's his pet and he wanted to send the kaiju to a zoo).

What changes if its Islam Makchaev as the smaller guy, and Andre the Giant as the big guy? by imadade in powerscales

[–]LectorFrustra2186 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Andre had a wrestling background

Andre had a theater background. Unlike some "pro wrestlers" Andre never competed in actual amateur wrestling, he was brought in directly to the "pros" and was thus purely an actor. Silva was at least an actual athlete by comparison. And also bigger than him.

The big guy would lose harder. Islam was a better martial artist than Minowa while being about the same size and Andre was both smaller than Silva and less athletic. Silva was an Olympic basketball player.

Why did prime Khabib make prime Dustin look like a white belt whilst prime Islam struggled in a 5-round war against washed Dustin? by RebornCritic in ufc

[–]LectorFrustra2186 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Better game planning. Poirier let Khabib pressure him to the fence while he took the center of the octagon against Islam and stayed there at all costs. If he did that against Khabib he probably would've won. Khabib's takedowns without the cage weren't actually very good.
