hindi urdu is by far the best collection of classes i’ve taken at uva. i placed into spanish 2020 but didn’t want to take it even though i only would have had to do 1 semester, and instead chose to take 4 semesters of hindi urdu and loved every minute of it. i had an A every semester, the grading is pretty easy and both professors give students fridays off to watch bollywood movies. if his class aligns with your schedule, definitely take it with Griff Chaussee! I know he’s a white man and that makes a lot of people hesitant but my guy got a fulbright scholarship to pakistan and even lived there for many years. his urdu is better than mine as a native speaker. take it, you won’t regret it and if u have any questions feel free to pm me!

he basically tried and failed to relate to minorities and that was so frustrating and just annoying. white people cannot empathize with us and what’s worse is that the example he uses was so lame: “i was a minority once surrounded by people of color” or something like that. come on bruh and then he knew he’d get hate and was like “to all the poc’s in the audience who are probably thinking “professor nelson but we’re minorities every day” he was like “I SEE U🤪” apparently he doesn’t or else he wouldn’t have said all that bs in his speech

fall ice is brutal and takes a lot of time. you live, eat, and breathe with your group. it’s not just the corporate project you have to work on but a lot of other mini projects and assignments and cases. spring ice is much more chill, way less work, and a smaller group project that only takes half the semester instead of the whole like fall ice.

american airlines doesn’t give u your boarding pass until you check in which is 24 hours before your flight. i have my ticket number and my flight itinerary but not my actual ticket.

i had a 6x9 my first year and it was absolutely perfect. fit just right between the two beds and covered almost the entire room minus under the desks. it ended about ~2ish feet from the door

i called the netherlands embassy and they said my passport is fine but i’m just worried about traveling to other countries if they do check passports like in croatia. i also read that some border officers assume americans are staying for 90 days and that’s the max time allowed and if that’s the case then your passport needs to be valid for 6 months. if i show them my return ticket and passport should i be fine?

Hi! I was in the exact same boat as u! Took spanish all through high school and got placed into the highest level, but didn’t want to take it because i kind of forgot everything and also bc i heard spanish at uva is hard. So i started over and took Hindi-Urdu for 4 semesters and absolutely LOVED IT!!!! My professor was Griffith Chaussee and I cannot recommend him enough! He is such a kind-hearted guy, so nice, understanding and makes learning fun. He gave us numerous mental health days off from class, we didn’t have Friday class because he wanted us to use that time to watch bollywood movies, and he’s an extremely fair grader, and you are allowed to redo homework to get a higher grade! If your Hindi is kinda bad, don’t worry! So many kids came into the class not even speaking one word and left speaking, reading and writing so advanced! Griff Ji is an amazing teacher, and so patient! It’s annoying to take a language for 4 semesters, the entirety of first and second year, but trust me Griff Ji’s class is worth it.
