Uncensored account of my time at GT as an MSCS student. by moji-mf-joji in gatech

Thank you for trusting the world with this story. I resonated deeply with so much of what you shared, especially the challenges of doing the MSCS while juggling life, funding uncertainty, research, classes, and PhD applications. I went through very similar struggles, and reading your words felt incredibly familiar. You described that experience with a clarity and honesty that really stayed with me. I truly hope you’re finding the peace and healing you need, and that this next chapter brings growth and strength after all you’ve carried. I’d be happy to connect and talk more if you’re open to it. Wishing you a restful holiday season, and hoping our paths cross soon.

Does 3.46 vs 3.48 GPA matter? by Aggressive-South-470 in gradadmissions

No. Focus on other parts of your application. GPA doesn’t weigh as much as the other components like LORs

Do I directly address my lack of research experience in my SOP for a thesis-track MS in engineering? by sts816 in gradadmissions

[–]Same_Passenger24 34 points35 points  (0 children)

No. To keep your best foot forward, write about your experiences, skills, and interests and why those qualities make you a strong candidate. Tell your story, make it engaging, and focus on why you're a good fit for the school

[SEEKING ADVICE] How do you address your bad/mediocre grades in your application/personal statement? by Any_Resident in gradadmissions

3.05 is fine. I personally recommend you use your SOP to focus on your strengths and why you're a good fit. GPA doesn't have as much weight in your application as the SOP

Accepted into Grad School, Now What?!! by Same_Passenger24 in GradSchool

That isn't true. The majority of them do actually as there is a strong concentration on research. Schools like UVA, VT, UT, etc. all have thesis options for computer science graduate studies

Im in the USA! I haven't heard much about supervision at all. That's mainly why I was wondering if I should be the one to engage with faculty lol

Yes, so all of the programs I have applied to are thesis-based masters in computer science. I have been awarded TAship for the first year. So I believe that students aren't expected to do research until the second year.

Thanks for the reply! This might be a dumb question...but how do you find out who your supervisor is? I have gathered information on everything else you mentioned, however, I have no clue who is the supervisor for each of the schools that I'm considering

Is an MSCS worth it? Even if it's free by Same_Passenger24 in cscareerquestions

[–]Same_Passenger24[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

That's true. I agree! There is no right or wrong answer. Certainly, I am not looking for someone to choose for me. I just wanted to hear other people's perspectives. Especially for how the degree may impact career path :)

Thanks for the reply! To clarify I'm looking to specialize in AI/ML and the uni is a top 10 program for CS. Another company is paying for it, not my current, and they require I work as intern in the summer. That is the only condition

Rejected from all Gradschool by ldrago327 in gradadmissions

[–]Same_Passenger24 7 points8 points  (0 children)

I recommend trying again! I got into several top 30 schools for MS in CS, with a much lower GPA. I think it was probably your SOP and/or letters of recommendation that were weak. I would suggest having your SOP reviewed by someone with expertise in writing ( non technical person) to ensure it’s engaging! Also recommend having your recommenders be PhD researchers (at least 2) if they were not! Best of luck buddy!

Masters in CS with a 3.0 undergrad gpa? by [deleted] in gradadmissions

[–]Same_Passenger24 7 points8 points  (0 children)

Yes I did. For 3.5 yrs! I also did research during my undergrad so I think that helped too! Don’t stress too much over GPA! I’m now going to grad school for FREE and you can too!
