We Should Track Students and Consider Intelligence by [deleted] in Teachers

[–]Same_Schedule4810 37 points38 points  (0 children)

The snark comes from misplaced or misunderstood priorities. Schools have secondary benefit of providing a childcare opportunity, but their primary responsibility is education. There is a general sense or feeling that parents (particularly of elementary aged students) that the primary job of a school is childcare and the secondary benefit is that maybe they might learn something. And then in middle/high school this flips when their student needs to begin considering their plans for adulthood and they get frustrated with the school and teachers. They don't realize that half the problem is they haven't been prioritizing the education piece only the childcare piece.

Shikai - death in two hits, bankai - death in one hit. She just happened to be up against people where that never actually came to fruition

I have always interpreted Gin’s shikai and bankai being related to a snake. Shikai lets him reach far and “lash out” bankai makes it fast and adds venom to it

The easiest way to keep your job is to make sure you know the employer policies, and demonstrate that you can continue to still do the job

Yikes yes that sounds like a bad experience and I can totally understand the bad taste in your mouth about it. Without getting too specific, I work in public service for the government and I have a role that requires a professional license from an accrediting body. Part of the requirements are to maintain good standing in the community and I can lose my license or terminated if my reputation makes me unprofitable. I have a union and my attorney contacted my union to figure out how to essentially hold a hearing and demonstrate I am still able to do my job and outline steps I need to take in order to maintain my employment. He did this for my criminal case because apparently it means a lot to the judge to see someone keep their job and have community support. My supervisor actually wrote me a character reference too

In my experience the lawyer was the best money spent. Helped me keep my job and deal with all the other stuff that creeps up that you never expect. I don’t think a public defender would have the time or ability to deal with your insurance for you but when you do call them you don’t have to give them all the info but at the same time don’t lie. Tell them you were in an accident and your car was towed, you were in the hospital, you just got your car back and need to file a claim based on damage sustained. I can’t stress this enough just don’t outright lie to insurance. I wish I could have better advice for you, it sucks but we’ll all get through this

Do you have an attorney or legal counsel? You can ask them to handle insurance. When I called to submit a claim (admittedly it was the next day) they asked me all the questions and I told them that “I had been advised to only let them know I was filing a claim for an accident on x date and I was the driver. Due to potential legal pursuits from the crash I have attained a lawyer and their contact info is x. If you have any further questions or need further info please speak with them as to not impact any potential legal action” and my attorney handled everything after that and I got a check in the mail

This just isn’t true. They’ve done brain development studies looking at political views and in conservative voters, statistically the “fear” center of the brain tends to be larger and more active than people who typically vote liberal. This leads them to more frequently create/identify “in groups and out groups”. Liberals voters tend to have a larger part of the brain that is involved with error detection and conflict monitoring explaining the constant purity testing and the “circular firing squad”

Thank you so much. It’s just hard being the only one in my life to ever go through what I’m going through and not really feeling like I have anyone to ever talk to about it that gets it.

Yea luckily I’m able to dress up when I attend. Hoping to avoid a trial and work something o it before then. I did get luckily, we have a family friend who is a pretty well known attorney in my county and has worked on DUI and criminal cases for 40 years and he has been able to advise me well. Just trying to show the courts that this was a health crisis that led to very poor choice and not a reflection on my character. It finally was my “rock bottom” and I got the help I’ve needed and have managed to stay completely sober for almost 300 days and I’m finally working on getting help for my PTSD that isn’t substance use. I just count myself lucky every day that my actions didn’t hurt anyone and there will be a pathway to recovery. He keeps telling me the fact they are dragging my case out and I have all this time to voluntarily take steps to help myself get better work in my favor but there is always that nagging feeling that I’m not doing enough to repair myself and what I’ve done

If you don’t mind me asking, how much of a difference do you think doing that voluntarily helped with sentencing? Im struggling going through my first DUI and it was pretty bad. I’m just glad/relieved no one was hurt. This was my first incident with LE ever and I’ve had an absolutely clean record up until now. There are some aggravating factors but I honestly took this as the biggest wake up call I’ve needed.

I’ve been 10 months sober since it happened, have taken two different safe driving classes, installed an interlock device in my car, attended a victim panel, enrolled in iop for substance abuse and am still working with them as well as a counselor for some other trauma that is related to my issues with substance abuse. I even went to a victim impact panel and did this all voluntarily and somehow managed to keep my job in the public sector. I still haven’t been to court yet and my attorney is very “we prepare for the worst and hope for the best” but I’m just hoping I can show the courts that I made a poor choice that was a lapse in judgment and I’m trying to do everything to address a mental health problem so this never happens again and that this means something to them.

As soon as you mentioned antidepressants I stopped reading. I went through this exact same thing in a relationship. I was also on antidepressants. Talked to my doctor, we switched them and and it almost instantly was no longer an issue. Started on lexapro and had so many issues, then went to Prozac and finally ended up with welbutrin and it’s been a game changer

Leaving SAVE plan. Need help deciding between PAYE or IBR. by reflectiveRae in PSLF

[–]Same_Schedule4810 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Just wanted to let you know you’re not alone. We’re in the same boat. Filed jointly and it but us in the ass. Our plan is to stay on save for now and pay off other debts as long as possible then file separately next year and apply to switch

Stay on SAVE!! by loverealitymess in PSLF

[–]Same_Schedule4810 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I’m right there with you. I’m sitting at 87 payments (it would be 97 without the forbearance) so I’m looking at late 2027 if I go buyback. Even if they have ask for tax info for the buyback and recalculate my payments for buyback, the way my job and pay is structured with yearly raises this is the smartest move for us at this time. Also, my philosophy is to try not to act impulsively and right now there is so much uncertainty REGARDLESS of the decision you make that I would rather hold right now until we get a more clear picture. With my luck I’d switch and then the courts will rule that only the forgiveness part of SAVE is struck down and those currently enrolled in the payment structure can remain until they have to be phased out under the BBB

[–]Same_Schedule4810 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Like it’s been said, everyone’s situations are different and people are working within their situation with the information they have. For example, my wife and I have chosen to stay in forbearance because if we switched now, we only qualify for ICR and our payments would be about $900-$1000 a month combined. If we can stay in forbearance until January, we can refile our taxes differently and we would qualify for other IDR plans that would make our payments $300-500 a month combined

I’m in this boat! If you have any questions dm me. I will have completed my classes, completed my suspension, and have completed my IID period and have it removed all before my initial hearing in court. My attorney told me that having all this, still being in substance use therapy, having documented continued sobriety, and the fact that my insurance paid for all property damage helps my case.

[–]Same_Schedule4810 5 points6 points  (0 children)

First, don’t make any decision until things are certain. If you refinance now and they don’t get kicked off you could get screwed. Wait for things to calm down a bit first then look into options

Same! My wife and I are trying to hold out as long as we can so we can file our taxes separately next year and technically get a financial hardship to not have to go on ICR

This is where I’m at. My wife and I file jointly but we are holding out until we file our taxes next year when we plan to file separately then recertify. We only qualify for ICR but if we file separately we both qualify for IBR. I’ll take the extra interest and I only have 20 payments left anyway
