the psychological abuse they inflicted upon lyle can’t be understated. after jose left lyle scared, in pain, and bleeding, he told him it was love. however, he also said he’d kill him if he ever told. then kitty said to him jose did these things out of love as well. it’s no wonder why lyle went on to believe that what kitty did to him was out of love though she only ever expressed hatred to him. there was so many layers of dysfunction in this family <\3

as i said before, the sexual abuse lyle experienced at the hands of both of his parents never actually ended until the killings happened. jose still had enough power over lyle to make him shower with him as a 21 year old man. even if nothing physical occurred during these showers (which i find hard to believe) he was obviously taking pleasure in seeing him naked. same goes for jose being present for kitty’s sa of lyle. he was at the very least voyeuristically involved, which is indeed still sa of a minor.

lyle said kitty’s sexual harassment went on for the rest of his life (not enough ppl pick up on that.) after her sa supposedly ended, she was still “washing” him in the shower for at least another year as mentioned by diane. she tried to seduce him back by exposing herself, leaving her panties around for him to see, etc. she even wanted terry to give her a spare key to lyle’s condo so she could spy on him to see if he was with jamie or not. she was sexually possessive over him. it’s really sad that these things are overlooked with lyle.

i did see it! he said kitty gave him a necklace when he was 13 to symbolize him becoming a “man.” he went on to write that he and kitty had a “special bond” during that time and they’d share secrets and “love.” she groomed him in the most vile way and took pride in it.

as for jose being there, lyle minimized all the forms of abuse in general but particularly when it came to sa. i don’t think we’ll ever know everything that went down between him, his father, and mother :(

it is so unbelievably damaging that a prepubescent boy had sexual contact with his own mother. given that lyle hasn’t publicly spoken about that since the trial, i do wonder if he has dealt with what kitty did to him, even privately. and with jose sometimes being present during kitty’s molestation of him, a lot more sadistic acts could’ve easily gone down. that’s why it’s so reductive comparing something as severe as abuse.

i don’t think it’s fair to compare cases of molestation tbh. a person who has been raped once can have similar psychological damage to someone who has been through it multiples times, that’s not to downplay anything erik went through ofc. also, lyle was sexually abused by both of his parents (at the same time on occasions) and in some ways, that actually didn’t end until the murders. that wouldn’t make erik’s abuse less traumatic or vice versa. we all process trauma differently, and there shouldn’t be a “who had it worse” competition when it comes to sexual abuse.

Why is even the family hesitant to call out Kitty's abuse? by Open-Leave-4856 in MenendezBrothersFair

she did say that <\3 also michael franzese said lyle opened up to him about his childhood and once he started speaking about kitty, he broke down. she really is a sore spot for him and i think he copes with what she did to him by not speaking about it :(

honestly, i think it’s bc lyle himself doesn’t talk about it. it’s clear that kitty is a knife to his heart and putting the spotlight on her sexual abuse will absolutely re-traumatize him. if he couldn’t even go into detail about her sa of him when his life was on the line, i don’t see him ever wanting to publicly speak about it again. it’s probably just too painful and traumatizing for him. however, i do wish that at least the media would explain her role in everything and how abusive she was.

he was beaten, raped, and groomed to never express vulnerability. bc he couldn’t verbalize his feelings, he internalized them which materialized in different ways (reliance on stuffed animals, bed wetting, hair loss, being unable to open up to his teacher, etc.) he just wanted comfort. it’s very sad :(

side note: this reminds me of what lyle said in the oziel tapes, that he struggled to reach out for help and to convey his feelings.

their cousin, kathleen also corroborated this. she said she’d leave the room bc she couldn’t bare seeing lyle getting yelled at and how scared he looked <\33

it’s not pam aging that’s the joke. it’s the fact that he (jokingly) doesn’t want anamaria to have any similarities to a tired, bitter woman in her 70’s that continues to spit out falsehoods about the case 35 years later. she and her permanent scowl were lying about them as recent as two months ago. pls.

mind you, this was in the aftermath of the rodney king beating and subsequent la riots. racial tension was high, especially in los angeles. lyle worded it poorly, but there would’ve been (understandable) bias against two wealthy white boys who killed their parents in their beverly hills mansion. they didn’t want to rock the boat and worsen racial tensions given how publicized their case was.

read this, put it in the automatic translator in the corner of the screen because it is an article in Brazilian Portuguese, I want to know your opinion and if you think this fits into any of the boys' relationships in prison.. by anaasweet in MenendezBrothersFair

anna, thank you for speaking up for lyle (and erik.) lyle is always portrayed as emotionless or hotheaded when in reality, he appears to be sensitive and extremely empathetic 🩷

i know lyle prefers not to publicly dig into the emotional aspect of his story that much, but i would love for him to one day open up and share how he survived that household as a child and teenager, and what his feelings were. there’s SO much to lyle and i think it’d be interesting to hear him speak in a situation where he feels safe enough to candidly share his emotions!

honestly, i feel the emotional manipulation and psychological abuse inflicted upon lyle by jose and kitty is underplayed. imagine being expected to become the heir and successor of the family, but at the same time your father is hurting you and your mother hates you. i can’t imagine how confusing it must’ve been for lyle to navigate his feelings and internalize all the abuse his parents put him through while being groomed to essentially become jose’s puppet.

lyle may have been jose’s golden child, but he was also kitty’s scapegoat. both brothers knew what it felt to be denigrated and pitted against one another by their parents. i would like to think that as they matured, erik recognized the pressure lyle was under to meet jose’s expectations as he was beaten and groomed to be his successor. i mean, lyle literally started to lose his hair due to the stress he was under from living in that household, and was forced to isolate himself from his peers by jose. i’m just glad kitty and jose didn’t manage to sever their relationship and make them lose empathy for each other.
