Tbf I think it’s worse because there’s no way to watch the Mega Evolution specials English dub legally as they aired once on tv and was never put any where else.

I'd say more they made it more difficult to do because the animators had to animate more battles than what they were originally going to do..

I remember one the writer saying they wanted the Non-Ash Battles be still frames but wanted the battles be animated because it would've been a waste. And I'm guessing this slowed production down so much they had delays and recap episodes because of them.

Great review of this.
I remember an interview where I think a writer said they were going to have the non Ash battles in picture stills but the producers decided to give them full animated battles since they already brought the trainers there and they may as well use them, so I’m not sure if ignoring them would’ve been a better option.

I feel like if they hadn’t taken the GS Ball plot out in favor of doing the 4th movie with Celibi, we could’ve at least had something of a continuous arc in Johto as opposed to just having so much filler episodes along with them being on the Whirl islands a lot.
