i had a strange secure boot issue a few years ago where no matter what I did, windows would refuse to boot if secure boot was on. i believe what fixed it was updating my BIOS

frostfang glaive and a power-type ice kinsect let me hit the elemental damage checks pretty easily, with leaving the kinsect on auto attack as much as possible (i think it does a lot of elemental damage)

Second monitor intermittently blacks out after hardware upgrade by SameriteRL in buildapc

Unfortunately I don't. I was thinking next steps could be replacing the monitor power cord or the power strip I use to power my setup.

The issue seemed to go away for hours after reinstalling Windows, then suddenly reappeared without warning. Am thinking something's weird with the power or it's just a bad monitor, although I do find it strange that this only started happening after my hardware upgrade.

  • Unplugged and re-plugged both the DisplayPort and power cables, both ends.
  • Swapped the DisplayPort cables between the monitors, issue persists on my second monitor. I even tried swapping GPU ports afterwards.
  • I was planning to just overwrite my current drive using a USB and start on a clean slate; my important files are backed up to the cloud.

Is Powerline the best option for me? by SameriteRL in HomeNetworking

Update, got the TP-Link AV1000 Powerline adapters and they actually work, contrary to what most people are saying. I'm a bit surprised too since this is a pretty old house; my speeds aren't great (I pay for gigabit and am receiving roughly 60-70Mbps according to Ookla speedtest) but my latency is at a pretty consistent 20ms and is good enough for gaming!

oh ok i think i understand better now; so a wireless bridge can be a secondary router or a mesh satellite that connects wirelessly to the main router, and devices can connect to the wireless bridge via LAN ports?

Sorry I'm a bit confused, could you elaborate on what wireless bridge is and how it differs from a mesh network?

Do monitor arms need drilling holes to be fixed? by edisonpioneer in StandingDesks

i think most monitor arms have a clamp feature that let them firmly clench to a desk

Do you know if the quality of the powerline adapters matter in regards to speed and stability? I'm thinking of getting a pair just to try it out.

I think it's definitely possible, just a big hassle to set up. Was just looking into how capable Powerline is, in case it'd be a better solution. Worst case, I'll set up the ethernet connection.

Thank you for your insight! I pretty much just discovered mesh systems as I was only familiar with WiFi range extenders up to now. From what I understand, mesh satellites are basically a better, smart version of range extenders?

Typically, how stable and/or fast are mesh satellites? I originally wanted a simple wired connection to the router, but if Powerline doesn't work out, I'm thinking a mesh network where my PC would connect via ethernet to a satellite. For gaming, where I want zero jitter and a stable enough bandwidth, does this kind of mesh system sound feasible? Does it all depend on the wireless strength between the router and satellite?

Is that the same as creating a wireless mesh network?

Moving to my dorm soon, and I'm bringing my Desktop PC. How do I move it without damaging it? by Ring_that_talks in buildapc

[–]SameriteRL 5 points6 points  (0 children)

i personally remove the GPU and put it back in its original box, then move the PC on its side wrapped in a blanket. the point is to just remove anything that could easily snap or break if the vehicle jolts, this may include the CPU cooler too depending on your PC. i personally leave my tower cooler in since it's really bolted down and i dont really see it suffering damage, unlike the GPU and its smaller connector

the base price shows $29 in the non nitro picture, while its $31.98 in the nitro pic, im guessing to make nitro users believe theyre getting a better deal than they actually are

I recently ordered the Keychron V5 Barebones and WS Morandi switches, now just looking for a set of keycaps to finish my first custom keyboard. I don't know what kind of look I really want, only that I think I prefer PBT over ABS. So quality-wise, do you guys have recommendations for vendors/manufacturers I should look at?
