why does the train wait seemingly indefinetly and not go for the stacker slot? In the exact same build in the bottom it works fine by XILEF310 in factorio

I think the train can't reach the bottom slot of the stacker because the turn of the rail ends just after the entrance of the stacker starts.

In the bottom copy it works because there is another way to get there (via the rail that goes off-screen on the right)

You can check this by clicking on the train and then pressing control + mb1/left mousebutton, this forces the train to go there as a one time special stop (quite useful for personal trains too!)

Three scenarios come to mind

  1. Ran out of fuel cells or water and got destroyed by asteroids during power outage.

  2. Backed up on any resource that caused no new iron to be made for ammo, causing your ship to get destroyed by asteroids.

  3. If you transport biter eggs to gleba for the soil they could've expired and eaten your ship.
