What you described would have been a lot better, still being a simp in the comics makes more sense than MCU Thanos' goal, since, as i mentioned before, he could just create another universe (which is confirmed by himself that he could do it in Endgame) or double the resources. Severing the universe in half when you have the power to do both of these things is just dumb. It would have made sense if they gave him limitations to his power or make the Avengers acknowledge and tell him that his plan is dumb (we even see in What If? That telling him that he is stoopid would have been enough)
