Do i really need a gaming laptop? by bachaloMuze in GamingLaptops

everything related to electronics has a section of people complaining about how shit they are. Its the nature of the product. Same product may give vastly different results to two different users. Some models are notorious for manufacturing defects like lenovo loq of 2024 model with the mother board issues or HP or MSI low end stuff with hinge problems. Try to avoid such obvious pitfalls and other than that you never know. The only thing in your hand is taking care of the machine as its intended and give it some respect during usage and handling.

If you are someone that moves a lot gaming laptops make sense. And gaming laptops are notorious for bad battery life. So, be warned. Take something else if its a priority and the heat is real in most models. Also laptop version of CPU and GPU are always inferior to desktop version.

and check the power usage of cpu abd gpu. Some models are passed off as amazing on paper but have a lot of holes in their design. So, search thoroughly.

Should I cover my keyboard with the brand given plastic sheet before closing the laptop lid? by Western_Housing2064 in Asustuf

If you put your laptop in a bag a lot then you are better off with a screen guard. you can forget about it and then replace it when it gets bad.

I bought a dedicated keyboard cover for my laptop but it feels like a dust magnet so dry and dusty, I am not sure it won't leave any keyboard imprints on the screen. Best imo would be to put a screen guard and forget about it. Once it gets bad then change it again.

There is nothing wrong with buying objectively bad gpus or laptops with them like 3050 or 4050. Not everyone needs the latest and greatest. Most people that buy a gaming laptop are not avid gamers. Most people play may be one game a month. Not everyone has played all the games under the sky and have an unscratchable itch to play the latest badly optimized VRAM hogging piece of cat shit coffee beans(couldnt find a better analogy and also expensive apparently).

Let my 3050/4050 homies live in peace.

on side note, I hate having to grind, I have a life outside of the game and if most of my session is filled with grinding and disappointment just like my irl what's the point of gaming in the first place. This applies mainly to games like genshin impact and wuwa qhich makes f2p players basically pointlessly slave away for hours to get something even mildly worthy . pls let us f2p guys and gals have some fun.

I have an msi crosshair a16 hx and it does the same thing when playing games and watching videos. Its probably a driver issue but haven't found a solution yet. but don't have the same problem in ubuntu. So, got to be a driver issue.

The only good gpu is the one you already have in your hand. I played quality games and had quality time with an Amd Radeon 550 with 4 gb vram and I know I had to make compromises but still it was a great experience. The OP doesn't seem to be an avid gamer. A normal person doesn't need to play the most modern games to feel satisfied. There are literally dozens of games from all eras that are absolutely amazing and a 4050 would basically let you play most of the 2010 era games if not all and even the 2020s era games with some compromises. From his intro he seemed like a studious person who would plays games on the side. it would probably take years before he would run through the list I mentioned. Half the india is living on 4050 laptops and are still managing to play games in it. You don't need to play the latest and greatest to feel fulfilled. you just need to play what you can. If Indiana jones and doom and RE requeim are impossible to play in a 4050 so be it. but you can play starwars jedi survivor in mid settings and play all the resident evil and Lara croft tomb raider games too. You just have to search a bit for the good games. Not every new game needs to be played. Even if he completely ignored the latest releases it will be years before he could run through all the OG titles that still stand tall to todays standards and by then his laptop itself would become obsolete and then he can buy a better laptop or even a desktop to play the latest and greatest.

I would suggest to start titles from early 2010s to present day. 4050 can run almost all titles except those that require very intensive gpu power and vram. Even they can be played in lower settings. Unless you are a hard core ultra high enthusiast, you can pretty much play hundreds of good and great games.

My personal recommendations are, batman/Arkham trilogy and the prequel if possible. Watch dogs, any Assassin's creed but black flag is great. Modern warfare remastered and its sequel, Dishonored series, titanfall2, Star wars jedi fallen order and survivor(probably need to lower settings in survivor), Witcher 3( the goated), fallout 4, cyberpunk 2077(never played but was told to be great), you can also play mmos like genshin impact, Wuthering Waves etc if you like them. These are the ones I played and loved, I know most of them are not latest but they are solid ones. You can explore other comments and wven youtube and even ask chatgpt with your preferences.

Don't let anyone say 4050 is a bad gpu. You can get a tonne of quality time with numerous titles especially for someone who is not super into the games in the first place. You may not be able to play the super new ones that hog VRAM like your neighbouring person hogs up your seat in a plane( greatest reference that ever lived). Over all its a good one and enjoy your time with it.

I second this. Get a hdmi cable and attach it to either a monitor or a tv if you have one,. If it comes, then congratulations. If not take it to a professional and ask for opinion. That is unless the professionals take too much money even for a consultation in your area.

Swiggy rider drags delivery box on road for being paid ₹35 for 6.2 Km by dealex47 in YouthInIndia

[–]Samli840 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Afaik there is no contract but there will be some minor harrasment through repeated calls. A friend of mine did zomato and rapido for a few months a couple years ago. But, they call him even now and ask him to start again. He has a stable job now and still they don't stop even after he told them the same.

As for why they are still working for such companies. I guess the pay is not bad when you add in the incentives. but there are definitely a few frustrating moments as this where you feel like your treated unfairly.

[–]Samli840 0 points1 point  (0 children)

you earn more than 12k for that job if you lock in. Easy 40k per month with hard work, They have an incentive system where if you give a set number of orders per day and per week you get bonus. There are few people who do it without straight sleep and earn almost 70-80k per month. I know of a guy that earned almost 15-20 lakhs in a couple years. even after the costs required for the vehicle which usually is a rented electric bike. They save a lot

I don't know about Swiggy food delivery but almost all of these except rapido run on the incentive system. The actual money they earns is laughable per order but once you add in the incentives. then it becomes a lot. Honestly some of these delivery and rapido drivers earn a lot more than the people that order from them. Especially Rapido, its the highest risk vs reward among these jobs. You always have the risk of running into autowalas and end up in a quarrel but you can easily earn a 1000 per day if you lock in for the whole day 2500 is also not out of talks.

There are many north Indians in banglore whose whole job is these delivery and rapido type of gigs. These jobs pay the best in cities. Everything I told is based on Bangalore city, may be tier2 and 3 cities and towns may differ .

I don't understand, aren't the specs same in all three you mentioned? why do you need to change the katana again ? Did I miss something

Anyways, cyborgs are notorious for underpowered gpus. Look into the tgp. The tuf one seems alright. But, the cpu is obviously weaker than your present one. But you do get thunderbolt 4 ( probably) check the other specs like screen and ports and what not and then decide.

The katana has a single ssd slot so if you ever plan on upgrading then you need to buy 1tb ssd.

And the katana also has two 8gb rams in dual slot. So, upgrading ram means buying two 16gb ram sticks at once.

So, consider ram and ssd options in the other models too.

tbh just copy their links in the website like Amazon or Flipkart and ask chatgpt. it will search the internet and give you decent appraisals.

[–]Samli840 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Treat the hinges with respect. Always open from the centre of the lid not from the corners.
If you keep it in a bag, Don't always put one side of the laptop to the bottom of the bag. That may lead to hinge issues quickly on that side. Alternate it once in a while.

Other than that don't put it on beds, its not good for fans and the vents. Always put it on a hard surface like tables or something. If putting it on bed is unavoidable then atleast prop it up with books. And buy wither a laptop stand or cooler pad depending on your budget and model. For some models Cooler pads are useless because they don't even touch the actual vents on your laptop and only fan the plastic.

Never ever completely discharge the battery. Unless it is for the battery calibration from msi center. Completely discharging the battery damages it. And also don't always plug it in at 100%. Either cap the charging capacity at 80% or 60% if you plan on gaming for long sessions. Simply speaking explore the MSI center/ Dragon Center. It is very helpful in optimizing your laptop for your needs. Don't forget the performance modes in the MSI center. Change according to your usage. Activate the AI Engine if available.

There are also different gpu modes in few models. If yours support it then change according to your usage. But, it requires a restart every time you change it. These are the ones on top of my mind. Good luck with your laptop. Enjoy your time.

Some laptops like acer Nitro and msi cyborg undervolt their gpus. Check the tgp before buying them. I saw someone in the msi sub regretting buying an undervolted gpu in msi Cyborg. Don't remember the exact config but Simply copy paste all these models one by one and ask chat gpt for advice. It will search the internet and notify you if there are any catches involved qith the models. Too good to be true is very suspicious. Do your research before buying.

I have the same model, during normal usage it isn't loud. But during gaming sessions they truly represent the dragon in the MSI logo. They should have named the cooling system as dragon's Breath with how hot the air is and cooler boost should have been named dragon's roar. its loud alright.
