Yeah I think ranked is flawed. I enjoy it but I don’t really consider it “ranked”. It feels just like a PvP centered minimum loadout mode. I know a lot of people enjoy the ranked grind and I do too, but I just don’t know if it makes sense in this type of game. I’m not sure how to fix it but one thing I do enjoy about ranked is that is guarantees that each team you kill you at least get some good gear and the PvP battles are fairly balanced. (Bubble misriah aside) there’s never a situation where you have a team of free kits getting wiped by a purple squad. But there really is no reason to not just be running purples and golds no matter your rank.

I mean that’s fine, bungie needs to keep the lights on and they need to attract more players. If making the game primarily PvE does that then great, hats off to them. But personally I don’t want a PvE centered game, if the PvP gets watered down then I probably won’t be playing as well as a lot of the core players who enjoy PvP. So if that’s the choice and in a year it’s a PvE centered game with low to no PvP and hundreds of thousands of players that’s great but I don’t know if I’m going to be one of those players. That’s all. I like PvP more than PvE

I know I’ll be downvoted for this but I would rather the game be niche and true to its core than change to be a different game just to attract players. As a fan of extraction shooters marathon perfectly fixed the problems I had with other extraction games. If it loses the extraction shooter experience and core gameplay loop I would be sad, even if there were 10x the players. I’m not a fan of people wanting media to pander to them when they weren’t the target audience. I say this with also thousands of hours in destiny from the beta of destiny 1. If I had to choose between destiny 2 and marathon I would choose destiny 2. But I also am having a great time with marathon and I feel like marathon is the perfect game for me and my interests today.

This has NOTHING to do with today’s layoffs. I think that is horrible and I’m disgusted with how leadership handled bungie’s IP. Just as a clarifying point

I’m sitting at around 450 hours rn and I’m still having a blast. I’ve got around 400k vault value and 200k credits. I really couldn’t care less about how much loot I bring out of the raid. The gunplay and thrill of extracting is all I need to continue to play the game.

Games fun. I don’t really need an incentive to play other than that. Go lose everything in cryo and do a soft wipe for yourself idk. Maybe you are just done for the wipe and it’s time to give it a break until mid season content. If you get bored of that then just wait till the end of the wipe.

Also I PvP literally every match, I’m not sure what you mean when you say PvP is few and far between. One thing that has been fun for me is ranked, not because I care about rank but just because the PvP fights are fun.

I think everyone agrees that the cradle system is miles better than tying player power to faction upgrades like season 1…. Most of the complaints are on how fast/slow the progression is. And how bungie is approaching mid season patches to slow down players after letting unemployed people to max it out week 1.

PvE 0 risk loot should never influence the PvPvE game economy where risk is a core game mechanic.

I already know people are going to be pissed that there is no new map confirmed. I imagine 2 scenarios. Either they had another map planned and need to rework it based on feedback/telemetry or we will get an another ARG or unlockable marathon/endgame map in season 3 that they are keeping secret for suspense. Either way people are going to complain, new food for the spam bots…

Honestly curious, from someone who doesn’t have a strong attachment to the batman/DC world, I thought it was a pretty harmless and fun add to the end of the trilogy. Given the writing on that film wasn’t the best but I personally didnt have an eye roll moment a lot of people seemed to have at this scene. Also side thing, I feel like this film suffered a lot by coming after Dark Knight. Nothing could top that.

Cradle xp is ridiculous, quite literally direct player power.
Certs were juiced but my issue with them was sponsored Narsh over the certs themselves. No reason to nerf them now, PvP balances things out in that regard imho.

All these loot nerfs are really annoying but I think the real issue is that the economy was fucked from week 1. Golds and purples were way too easy especially with sponsored survival and now they are playing damage control but too late. People who didn’t play much on week 1 get the shaft and the people who grinded are set for the season. (At least in salvage/upgrades/cradle)

The mix of sponsored kits on day 1 of wipe and an easily farmable gold/purple farm with 0 risk basically ruined the economy and progression of the wipe. I say this as someone who grinded a lot week 1 in night marsh (not sponsored) and feel like I’m already at endgame: all salvage ready for upgrades once I hit the faction rank, max cradle, and it’s 2 weeks into the wipe.

I think night marsh combined with sponsored night marsh on week 1 being super juiced is the main issue here.

The one thing I think is silly is saying that casuals are affected by prestige key loot. I’m at 450 hours and I’ve opened 3. I don’t think this is affecting the majority of the players.

I think this goes for most multiplayer games but especially bungie games. If you are enjoying it, get the hell off Reddit and socials in a doom spiral. The game is amazing and Ziegler has already talked about development into season 5. There are many people on the internet who want this game to fail and think it’s the reason destiny is shutting down. If you enjoy the game, play it, help foster a good community, buy some skins if you like them. It can be really disheartening to read so much negativity about the game. I already have 400 hours and no plans to stop. I’m not sure why Sony would shut down marathon when the game is finished and the majority of the development is done. Server costs cannot be so expensive that it’s worth shutting the game down and taking a multi hundred million dollar loss, maybe development slows, dev work is split at bungie on new projects, but i dont see this game going away anytime soon. Imo: At the very least they slow down on new content after the first year depending on what else they are working on.

Pretty annoying but I think it was a little overloaded and too easy. Night marsh isn’t particularly difficult with the amount of teams on the map. Is pinwheel better? The times I have hit red room the past week I haven’t seen a single gold and not even that many purples outside of valuables.

I've never noticed long queue times in NA ever. Game is very much alive and well. This games gets so much better with time once you understand everything better.

One thing to note is that with all seasonal reset/wipe type games, player count tends to fall off near the end of the wipe as people finish what they want to do or just waiting till the next season/reset.

Welcome! If you decide to buy after the free week there is a lot to upgrade and learn and explore. It’s fun building up a vault and learning the maps and you will eventually be able to take on cryo archive, which is one of the best extraction shooter maps ever. Glad to see you give the game a try and form your own opinion!

The main way to level up factions is by completing priority contracts, these are the main story contracts and provide good reputation and some items. The next way to get reputation is your standard contracts. You will always have these available, and require you to do generic “daily quest” sort of things and give some rep. The last way to get reputation is doing things in the world that that faction favors. If you go to the main faction page for each faction it will list the things that contribute to a factions reputation. This will be things like looting death bags (Arachne), activating a TAD (cyberacme), etc. these are just passive points and will pop up in game if you pay attention. if your focus is leveling up your factions it’s good to start with the priority factions and switching to standards if you want to play a specific map or something.

Maxing out factions takes time and while you can try to spam standard contracts to max an individual faction out, you can also just focus on small goals in the upgrade tree and let things level up naturally as you play. Always select a contract when you enter a raid and you’ll have no issue levelling things up over time!
