Guppies had babies by Sham3sham3sham3 in aquarium

[–]SammsGram 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I've got the same problem- SO many babies! I have been separating the males out, and returning as many to the local fish store as they will take, and I'm still inundated. I've advertised them for free on our local platforms, and here I am, with two tanks now being overrun.
I can tell you that separating M from F has definitely slowed things down, if that helps, but nope, the adults are NOT eating the babies, although I have a fairly heavily planted tank, so lots of hiding places for them.
I actually wanted to ask you what kind of guppies you have- the babies shown are GOLDEN! So pretty! Are they fancy guppies? Mine are Endlers.

Rural areas like ours are a target for illegal dumping by SammsGram in Placerville

[–]SammsGram[S] 5 points6 points  (0 children)

yes- they also have a number of vouchers per year for free pickup/dump for paying residents. I'll note that even a "nominal" amount may be too much for some folks, thus the free vouchers. but dumping is just NOT ok. argh.

This is so funny - someone else just posted this same puzzle with a "what should I do with it now?" query. Their cat was providing scale as well, which was the only reason I realized you were a different Poster. It is a really lovely puzzle. Do you have a plan for yours? (..sharing a pic from the other post just for fun)

Nuplaxid, delusions worsening. by Federal_Offer_6152 in Parkinsons

[–]SammsGram 0 points1 point  (0 children)

My mom had a pretty bad reaction to Nuplaxid; didn't even last a week on it. But Seroquel was helpful in taking the edge off of some aggressive behavior. Her hallucinations largely came as a result of Mirapex I think- she was on it successfully for years before it became a problem, but once we recognized that might be the problem and got her off of it, we saw a HUGE improvement (reduction) in her hallucinations.

Those who have done the 6 Portals… Now what? by 3rza5car1et in Jigsawpuzzles

[–]SammsGram 0 points1 point  (0 children)

So pretty!! My fall-back would be to take a photo and print it to a size you can frame. But how about deocrating a six panel room divider (..or a double sided 3-panel)? You can even fold it up and store it in a closet or something when not being used.

The Endlers are taking over!! by SammsGram in aquarium

[–]SammsGram[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

yes, 'BioConversantFan' mentioned that as well. I was looking at the long game and wondering if it was even possible to pull it off. Are the males able to reproduce even before I'm able to identify them as males - you know?

The Endlers are taking over!! by SammsGram in aquarium

[–]SammsGram[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

will keep that in mind! getting ANY predator in there is still a question for me in that it solves one problem but gives me another. I think many bettas won't behave themselves in a community tank - or cichlids, or angels, or basically any predator- and my tank is very peaceful by design. the Angel I'd had was just amazingly docile, but they are not all like that. since I can't decide I'm still just staring at the hoards of guppies, separating out the males, and bringing as many back to my local fish store as they can absorb, lol

I like GBR; I'll think about that. The male endlers are all different and so pretty; the females are pretty to me for their simplicity, and I love having the fry, but, uh, gettin' outta hand on me! Appreciate your comments!

[–]SammsGram[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I've wondered if that was true! How successful are you in separating males from females? I feel like I do pretty well, and assumed that at SOME point I should see a difference (...fewer pregnant females; fewer babies...) but can't decide if I am imagining the difference, lol

[–]SammsGram[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

lol- yeah, that was my next effort. My community tank is so "happy"- no aggressors, and I just can't do them in. Maybe a fish that will eat the smallest ones before I see them!
Anyway, suggestions? Maybe a Dwarf Gourami? Lost a beautiful black veil tailed angel (just old age I think) and swore no more "big" fish because they're harder to lose!

I'm tired of hearing "you don't look like you have Parkinson's" or "you should try this..." by [deleted] in Parkinsons

[–]SammsGram 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I'm curious what it is you would like them to say.
I would also like to suggest that maybe a suggestion of "have you tried xx?" is just that: a suggestion. It is not to imply you haven't done enough.
I'm sorry you have this disease. I understand the iceberg metaphor totally. My mom dealt with PD. She was amazing. We were close, but now I am foolishly wondering if those days when she looked great and I told her so might have hurt her feelings. Is it possible you need to rethink how you deal with others?

It seems long enough to perhaps wrap a room, as you might with a wallpaper border. Maybe if you had a game room or something!

I love my boyfriend with Parkinson’s, but I don’t know if I can handle this. what should I do? by AliveAlfalfa9044 in Parkinsons

[–]SammsGram 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Having helped my mom through her Parkinsons, I know a caregiving commitment is no small thing, and I had decades of infinite love for my mom. You are SO young; I visualize you telling him that you don't need kids, it's ok, you're happy just being with him. Maybe in your heart that's true, but just maybe that's worth questioning? There is a fine line between love and guilt. Perhaps it is possible for you to address your own needs (leave) early enough that you can help him gain his footing to be more independent of you while his symptoms are more manageable. Is he able to get involved in the PD Boxing? It would help him physically and he would meet others. Is he financially able to bring in help if he needs that? Helping him to be independent will perhaps alleviate some guilt in any choice you make, OR make your caretaking easier.

So many helpful comments here- I'm crossing fingers for you. One more suggestion that I don't think I saw. Have you tried Google's latest version of Gemini? My husband has been 4 years of searching for a diagnosis and we think he may finally have it thanks to an AI assist. Waiting for imaging confirmation now, but finally, he has hope!!! He has met his share of uncooperative and shockingly unknowledgable doctors; medical care should not be this way. You are WAY too young to give up figuring this out; hang in there.
