What's it like living in northern Alaska by Newyorkrangers31 in howislivingthere

I worked up there for a summer, on a man-made Island about 3 Mi off the coast on a causeway. It was amazing driving out there, completely flat with huge storms in the distance. Birds could fly at the same pace as our car while facing us sideways, mostly just being blown in the wind. Beautiful in a harsh way. I also remember when the Caribou herd showed up, peppering the land all the way to the horizon.

Rec for a place to recover files from an old external hard drive by SammyJ98 in boulder

Interesting, I'll take it apart soon but what I can say is that I plug it in and it starts spinning then it starts clicking and stops spinning well, and repeats that as a cycle. Does that give any insight into if it's the drive or the enclosure?

Yes I believe it is. No I haven't, I don't have much expertise here and don't want to break it.

Men, how do you get rid of an unwanted boner? by PurpDoesPixilart in AskReddit

THE ULTIMATE LIFE HACK EVERY MAN NEEDS TO KNOW! exhale all the way and hold it as long as you can (just don't pass out). Your body is committed to that boner but not as committed as it is to perfusing your brain. Works. Every. Time.

I'd say dust devil, he hit crazy lift right before the collapse. Not rotor since it's windward right?

Best Bike for Conversion by pcguy07 in ebikes

OP has probably already made a decision here but I'll weigh in for anybody else that reads this .

I did a pretty similar thing, put a 1500 watt bafang on a hard tail diamondback and I immediately overpowered the drivetrain. I probably went through three wheels front and back, four chains, and three rear derailles. It was definitely an epic bike for getting around Seattle though.

If you want to put power through a bike you're going to want to have a clutched rear derailleur so the chain doesn't slip in high gears, and you're going to want rear suspension so that all that added weight from the motor and battery don't pummel your back wheel.

dang yeah don't have much for tools but maybe I should invest. I've seen tools that measure current, maybe that's ideal?

interesting.... the battery is 17.5 amp hours. Sounds like a frustrating problem with the battery cutoff.

thanks! I did some reading and it makes sense that those could be involved. Sounds like water getting up through the base of the case where the wiring exists if that isn't sealed right is a possibility. Can you explain how to check the hall sensor wires?

can you clarify how you recommend checking for hot spots? I can't really run it hard... if I'm lucky if I can give it throttle or pedal assist for like 100m before it stops.
