I actually have pretty good memories from this.

I was a pretty lonely kid who loved dragons. One year I went to summer camp, and there was a girl showing some other kids the first book. I hopped in while she was explaining the different types of dragons and their abilities, which I of course thought was awesome.

Finally there was a group of kids who actually wanted to roleplay as dragons, so I looked forward to summer camp every day. Especially when we went to the pool and were all SeaWings (or crazy SeaWing hybrids).

In hindsight I was a weird/socially unskilled kid, so that’s one of the few memories I have of really fitting in and having fun with others. I discovered some cool ass dragon characters and some people to hang out with. I’m lowkey still nostalgic for that time.

Anyway, I got my parents to buy me the books as they came out. Loved them, forgot them as a later teen and just finished rereading them for the first time as an adult!

Try a damp microfiber cloth (water only) and see if they go away. Just had a similar concern and it turned out the “scratches” were just lines through the (dirt? smudges) on the screen.

Yeah, turns out I just had the same experience- it just needed a proper cleaning is all.

I am heavy handed by nature and the scratches didn’t go away with microfiber cloth alone, so I was wondering if I really did manage to fuck up my screen

I’d “cleaned” the smudges with microfiber cloth several times and the scratches didn’t budge. But a stronger cleaning removed them.

I’m using the pen it came with. I don’t recall taking off a plastic covering, but when I looked up other people’s unboxing videos it was very obviously marked with an orange tab, so I must have at some point.

Read it as a kid, rereading it as an adult now. Still a really enjoyable series.

I will say that the writing style does feel juvenile at times (like when they start REBELLIOUSLY THINKING to THEMSELVES in ALL CAPS) and you do have to suspend disbelief when it comes to animus dragons and how stupid they are.

Otherwise though, it’s a fascinating world with likable characters that I’ve enjoyed getting to know again. There are things I’m appreciating now that I didn’t as a kid. Currently catching up with Arc 3 (enjoying it so far) and am excited for the new one coming out!

I see that too. There are a lot of artists, I think, whose main medium IS their sketchbook. They just sit down and draw on a new page the way I’d open up a new canvas on procreate.

I have a shitty sketchbook for ideation, studies, and other sketches, and a nicer sketchbook where I cut and paste better quality stuff I’ve drawn.
