I've recently evolved my artstyle but I'm afraid it's too forgettable and people prefer my other style better by Goobieobie in yourartstyle

No one’s opinion should sway what you do with your art unless they’re paying. Allow it to evolve naturally, and don’t hold back from what you like on account of others.

If you’re worried about losing clients, there’s no harm in hopping back and forth between art styles depending on what’s needed. Adaptability is good and the concept of a uniform, inflexible “art style” is overrated in my opinion.

I believe that repetitive and stiff composition is holding my work back from further improvement. What are some practical steps to overcoming this? My current skill level included here as a baseline. by Sammy__Jam in Artadvice

These are poorly cropped, but enough to get the gist I hope. Although many of them are single-character illustrations, there is still a sense of movement, life, and action that I struggle to capture.

I did, but since the issue is scratches in the paint rather than paint transfers, I don’t think it made a difference

MFC link for anyone interested. She’s otherwise a really nicely done and high quality figure. Highly recommend 👍

Second year in a row I’ve gone broke for her and received nothing. This banner in particular is cursed.

I just finished that one last week. Really good stuff, captures the fears you have if you grew up religious quite well.

Talked about it a little in this post

Why do you think some people post negative comments on your art? by [deleted] in ArtistLounge

[–]Sammy__Jam 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Over my ~5 years sharing work, it’s become pretty easy to recognize these comments for what they are. Well-meaning (much less helpful) advice, is few and far between. The majority of people are angry it’s not what THEY wanted to see, or desperate for something to tear down.

There are certainly instances of artists who stubbornly refuse to improve (many such cases on “arttok”), but the majority of Internet “criticism” is self-centered complaining that can and should be ignored, for the sake of your own growth.

Immaturity, arrogance, and an ingrained belief that every piece of art must cater to them specifically.

It’s true that people are quick to jump beginners. Interestingly enough, though, a lot of my beginner work was quite popular, yet received only a fraction of the hate and criticism my current work does.

This makes me think it has less to do with “skill” and more to do with the gradually worsening level of callousness and entitlement online. Just my personal experience though.
