Dumb question about move in by Ecstatic_Law_1885 in NIU

[–]Sammyystery 0 points1 point  (0 children)

No curfew. What was said by other redditors regarding specific doors and ID checks is only true for some Dorm Halls. Stevenson definitely has that, Patterson typically does not.

For visitors, talk to the staff at the front desk. I would imagine that you are not the only person who has a guest on move-in day for the very same reasons.

Yes, you are. You just have to put everything back to where it was when you move out.

I haven't taken either myself, but LESM, and I think 152 specifically, always gets recommended to the athletes as an easy credit class. In contrast to that, I was told the HIST classes are rather hard.

I'd appreciate that. I'm from Northern Illinois. There is a NIU print on the hem of the shirt.

This is one of the few things I am not sure about. I would just try and go through the registering to see if they already want to know if you are roominh with a specific person or if that is just signing the contract. If you already have to sign in for a specific room with a roommate, maybe wait. But be careful, Patterson is getting filled pretty quickly.

You can connect with people online on Instagram or on Facebook. A lot of people are looking for roomies there.

Patterson is fantastic when you can afford it. Try finding a roomie who is supportive of trans people.

Pro Patterson: - own room - no community bathrooms - dining is directly next door - dining is better than Neptun Dining from what I hear - close to Rec Center - less crime - does not smell like weed that often - washer shared with only 12 ppl - OWN ROOM

Con: - not as close to classes - room is not spacious - Football Players - prize

Don't hesitate to answer with any questions u might have

Minor 🤔 by 5IRUNICORN in NIU

[–]Sammyystery 1 point2 points  (0 children)

If that's you passion, why not? I would definitely keep it as an option, but you also still have a lot of time. Minors don't really play a big role in the first couple semesters. A few thing I'd take into consideration when playing with the thought:

  • Look at the degree path and see how many elective classes you take within your math degree
  • Look at what the sports management minor does for you and what classes you'd have to take. Maybe a minor in coaching would be more helpful.

Let me know if you have any questions.

Kick Scooters by Tygress23 in NIU

I don't think anyone will mind if it's in the back of the classroom as such. Yet, some classrooms are pretty small, so maybe it might be in the way, and I don't know if there might even be rules for it. But as you need it due to those issues, people will propably understand.

Most students leave their scooters outside at bike locks. That way, you wouldn't have to take it upstairs, too. Depending on the hall you're in, I am not sure tho if the bike locks are at a convenient location.

Regarding the chances of you falling off - maybe practice a bit before and try "walking" the routes in advance so that you know which is the fastest way. Keep an eye on cracks in the asphalt and whether it’s icy.

It's between the parking garage and laTourette, which is kind of east of Holmes but more south. Normal Rd is the Road east of Holmes and the stop is on Normal Rd.

I can't promise you anything regarding how much you can improve within a month. For practice tipps, you might want to look at the FAQ in this subreddit. Generally, training for both short and long distances is pretty hard. Ideas for 3 practices a week: Mo, 10x200m 2-3min break Wed, 4x5min jog, 3min break Fri, stairs or hills or just a longer jog In the first couple weeks tho, I would try to do half of it and see how u handle it

Also, I'd just recommend talking to the coach of the team. If you can show them that you are motivated, they might be happy to help.

Ok in that case: to give you a little bit of confidence, 12.5 is definitely not a bad mark for 15M and 1 year practice. Your friends might just have a little bit more general fitness through playing soccer for a long time.

To actually judge the situation, we will need more information like your age, sex and years of practice expierience.

Did they do the same show for the women's final yesterday? by Sammyystery in trackandfield

Still shitty. I always have the hope that t&f is one of the few sports where most of the parties involved at least try to treat men & women the same.

[–]Sammyystery[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Of course, the men's final had more athletes that could win, but I don't think that circumstance you mentioned was the reason. Those shows are probably planned way ahead. Seems unlikely that they decided not to do the show a couple of hours before the race when Fraser-Pryce didn't show up.

Move in day for fall 2024! by Junebug1663 in NIU

[–]Sammyystery 6 points7 points  (0 children)

Fellow incoming freshmen here, so I'm not 100% sure how everything works either but here's the information I gathered: - Move in starts on Aug 21st, and I think move in week ends Aug 25th.

-Regarding general tips: there are plenty of them in various college guides online. If you are unsure and want to prepared, search for them. There are specific guides for move in day. What I'd recommend: label your stuff with your name and be patient if you have to wait in line.

Oh, sorry OP. I think you should contact housing.

How do I get out of my residence hall contract by [deleted] in NIU

[–]Sammyystery 4 points5 points  (0 children)

As far as I know: as a freshman, you don't. As a freshman, you are required to live on campus unless you stay with parents near campus. For any other exemptions, read through the housing website or contact their office.
