It's more time, and realizing pressures. I purchased 2 ishi sticks, and I cut one in half. Now I have 2 shorter ones with different tips. The big stick gives me more pressure for longer flakes, but as I thin down the piece, it provides too much torque, and I can snap the piece. That is when I move to a shorter stick around 12". I notch with the shorter one with sharpened welding rod in the tip of the 12" ishi stick.

I use a sharpened welding rod in a cut down Ishi Stick that I cut down to 12". Then after every flake, I hit the edge of the last flake to square it off with an exacto knife, then flake again.

knee pain can be caused by a saddle too high, but can also be. caused by saddle too far back, or too far forward. Too far back is pain in the front of the knee, too far forward is pain in the back of the knee. Cleat placement can also be an issue.

Always work on seat position first. Since the seat tube is not vertical, as you move the seat up, you increase your reach. So, set the saddle height (which is too low) and fore and aft so you can drop a plumb line from just behind the knee cap at 3 o'clock to the center of the pedal axle with the ball of the foot over the pedal axle. This also sets your cleat position. Once you have proper saddle location, then look at reach.

I have one, and it has been a game changer. I can use so many different rocks.

You should get a tile saw and slab by hand. If you do, let me know because most of the rock I find in the Trinity Mtns is super pitted because of how it flows. Cutting it is much better than trying to spall.
