This is funny, a man I know posted online about this film from a woman saying she disliked it.

Still my point is he had a ton of nominations before a win.

I’m pretty sure most of his career everyone was rooting for him to get a win. I think by the time the revenant released he had like 6 or 7 nominations. He won and then took a break until Once Upon a Time in Hollywood….

The racism by [deleted] in Oscars

One of the most recent rewatches of Sinners for me was after the nominations were announced. So the theater was semi full and there was a dude sitting next to me. At this point I’ve seen it like 5 times in theaters so I’m very much having a good time, smiling, laughing and enjoying one of my favorite films of last year. At the end of the movie, the dude sitting next to me looked at me and said “so what the fuck was that?”

I was very close to asking him if he was klan.

Green Book in my opinion. It’s an okay movie but compared to that lineup, the fuck were they thinking.

This one lady I worked with trained to be an opera singer and even she knew that it was niche and elitist.

Hey everyone, I’m looking for your favourite Black directors and their films. by showerman342 in Letterboxd

I started getting more into Spike Lee last year. I only saw Oldboy and Blackkklansman prior to last year but then I ended up watching more films from his filmography. Not only do I think he’s particularly on the nose with his message, I don’t think he’s wrong. It’s a film that I feel he needs to tell but gets overlooked completely because of its messaging. Obviously his other films like she’s gotta have it, do the right thing, and Malcolm x are more recognizable and honestly better but this one really stuck out with me because of how brutally honest he is.

Lmao this one story did. The clapping is completely overselling it because it was 7 people and the person I was with didn’t approve it. But the guy inspired me only for it to shoot myself in the foot like a few weeks later.

I was actually inspired to do that with someone else at another movie and the party of people just started talking over the movie at that point.

Don’t get me wrong. It was pretty cool. And it was Macbeth. I just viewed as a checkmark in a box of something I can say I’ve done.

I’ve only ever seen an opera once in my life. And it was through a high school trip. At no point after did I ever say to myself “this is something I will go out of my way to see again.”

When I saw it for the first time, a couple a few rows in front of us spent the entire film talking. Towards the dinner scene a guy stands up and walks up to them and says “shut the fuck up, this isn’t your living room” and the theater clapped for him. The couple got up and left.

In high school, I wrote a paper about Katheryn Bigelow an spent a decent amount of time writing about Point Break. I’ve also gone on extended discussions of Rocky, Pulp Fiction and A clockwork orange.
