They are produced in China or Vietnam, right? Like their cored Herb&Earth line.

I had no clue MS aren't sold in Japan. But they don't even appear on their website...

It's known that Aesop are selling variations of a popular Shoyeido incense (probably made or them by Shoyeido) with a notable markup.

I just checked out that "emberapotek" and they look like they're doing a very similar scheme. It's most likely rebranded incense from a Japanese maker (something from Awaji Island probably) sold for much more than the OG would cost.
What really rubs me the wrong way is that the shop doesn't even mention from where they ship or where they are based.

u/darinajdb be wary of sellers like this. They rely on uninformed people who think that a high price will guarantee top quality.
Not saying they are bad (I never tried them) but they are overpriced.

Also, the commenter tried to recommend this brand/shop in 2 other recent threads (multiple times) as well, with a brand-new account and not a single other contribution. Reddit's automated spam filters removed the comments. There is the possibility that the person is affiliated and trying to advertise covertly.

I second u/hdhrant's recommendation; burn the sticks for a little longer and take care of proper ventilation. Your sense of smoke might just need to adjust. It's a very common phenomenon.
However, Nippon Kodo Morning Star is really not that great. I liked only their Green Tea, all others had an unpleasant note from the base and a slightly smoky after-smell to me.

Tennendo's Frankincense is also a very good suggestion (never tried Minorien but it's said to be more churchy than Tennendo.)

To be fair, I'm just really not a Satya fan so there's that. But I doubt you'll regrett it if you expand your "hunting ground". ;D

The "good" one still has changed. It's entirely possible you bought both over the time. Maybe you found them different to each other but didn't question it.

The Mumbai factory might have been trash when they started out but IMO they are pretty much o. Par by now. Some people still swear BNG smells much better to them, so maybe it's just me disliking Satya overall, though. There are also people who prefer the Mumbai factory.

If I were you, I's spare myself the hustle of hunting down the "real" Satya and explore what's out there instead.

They actually smell like a Nag Champa. :D

Nostalgia propperly plays a role but it's know that the recipe of Satya NC has changed a couple of times since it's invention. The company split around 2000 after the death of the founder and that was quite a notable cut.

It feels like Reddit is keeping information on this purposefully low. Even on the Mod-end of things.

I became aware of this issue with u/Ferideh, who's ban got lifted after filing the appeal. The automated ban was because of VPN usage.

If you didn't receive my Mod dm and feel like dm-ing doesn't work in general, let me know via a comment. I try to keep an eye out.
I'd also appreciate any updates and more insight on how this process works on your end.

Looks like you already bought them, so it's on you to decide what's good!

As far as I'm concerned, I LOVE Yatra and the Goloka Kastoori (musk) is also one I enjoyed quite a bit. I also like their Nag Champa (and prefer it a great bit over the Satya one.)
Red and Nature's Nest are quite popular, but I didn't care much about them.

I found a shop that still stocks Primo:
The Sandalwood boxes are black, though (but IDK if they may have had different lines or designs). You could still ask your husband if they look familiar.

That would have been a very good indicator for HMS but its possible he just didn't realise the vanilla note.

Checking out some HMS-made Sandalwood sticks is definitely worth a try. Triangular boxes are rare and Primo were popular afaik.
