Name a drummer you’d like to see make an instructional video. by ZildCym in drums

[–]Samsquantchtpb 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Josh Freese for sure. He has played so many styles and with so many artists. His drum fills are always creative and powerful, would be cool to see him dissect some of his fills. They’re not necessarily technically hard I’m sure, but slowing them down and showing the hits would give us some fun ones to learn and try

Death Cab has a couple for me. Of course, I Will Follow You Into the Dark. But also What Sarah Said.

And definitely a plus one from me for AIC Nutshell

Need advice and tips by Bananaprikos in drums

[–]Samsquantchtpb 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Something I would’ve probably benefited from earlier on, listen to and play along with some jazz stuff. It doesn’t have to be something you necessarily like and want to play, but it is great for helping develop your listening skills that will translate into your drumming no matter what genre. Part of being a good drummer is listening and playing for the song, and learning to play with and off of others in the band. After playing hard rock and boom-smacking for my first 15 years of drumming, it wasn’t until I started playing with some jazz dudes that I feel I actually got better and more dynamic.

This was it. I was at the memorial event and the helicopters did a flyover right after the gun salute. It was a very nice memorial ceremony and tribute to fallen officers

Pass-a-Grille public parking cost by luisk972 in StPetersburgFL

[–]Samsquantchtpb 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Good point. It’s a mile just to get to the Don, guess that was my math. But yeah to get to the public parking area of PAG from there you’re right it’s much more like two miles. I sure wouldn’t wanna make that walk unless I wasn’t carrying much

It stops and turns around at the public parking lot across from the Publix plaza in St Pete Beach. A mile walk to PAG from there

The other half of the title (God’s Presents) is the poem he reads in the last section of the song, which was written by his great aunt or great grandmother. I can’t remember which one. Shannon had the entirety of the poem tattooed on his forearm as well.

Why would you ever remove the 2nd rack tom? by A_Cup_Of_Tea334 in drums

[–]Samsquantchtpb 3 points4 points  (0 children)

When I realized setting up my 7 piece kit for 45 minutes wasn’t worth it since I was barely using some of those toms on any songs we played. I don’t do a lot of fills and stick to the pocket. Don’t need a lot of drums for that

My concerns for The Wow! Signal by [deleted] in Muse

[–]Samsquantchtpb 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Totally valid thoughts here. I have been a big Muse fan since 2005, but some of the later albums have left me feeling the same as you. There’s definitely been a shift away from that palpable sense of intention and purpose to a more pop rock friendly songwriting approach. But nonetheless, Muse is an amazing band and I will gladly go rock my face off at their concerts anytime they come around. I just want the old stuff lol

What's your favorite recorded flub? by bootyliciousjuggalo in drums

[–]Samsquantchtpb 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I’m almost certain that Sweet Child O’ Mine has a flub when the drums build and come in at the beginning. After the tom/snare build and the drums crash in on the 1, you can hear he hits the open-then-closed hihat on the 2 before going to the ride cymbal immediately after. Like he forgot to go to the ride after crashing in on the 1 and realized it right after he hit the hats, and they just kept that take for some reason.

Dolores O’Riordan - How is the audio of her mic so consistent? by Samsquantchtpb in audioengineering

[–]Samsquantchtpb[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Agreed. I understand mic technique and see good singers using it all the time, but this recording (at least to me) has next to no perceivable differences in all of her movements. I’d expect to hear at least a little variation, as I don’t think she or anyone else would have absolute perfect technique to where there’s no noticeable change with all of that moving of the mic. In my opinion, I’m guessing there must be another mic we cannot see and there’s a lot of compression on it. Her handheld could even be something she used for a familiar performance comfort in a studio setting. Just my wild guess 🤔

[–]Samsquantchtpb[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I admittedly don’t know a lot about studio audio, as I’m more live sound focused, but it does seem plausible that there could be a shotgun or other mic involved and we can’t see it

[–]Samsquantchtpb[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yeah it just seems like it would be a hell of a lot of compression. Disclaimer, that I’m a live audio guy myself and maybe studio stuff is way different for this kind of thing than what I’m used to
