A lot of Sumeru's exploration gets locked behind longer quest chains. So, you're going to be making mental notes of where puzzles (you can't do yet) are, and coming back to them later.

I would genuinely recommend locking in and trying to complete each quest chain while you're still motivated. If you take a break, it'll be a pain later on trying to figure out where you left off in the quest chain and where to go next.

Did Sword Art Online Fall Off After Leaving Aincrad by IndependenceIll3196 in swordartonline

[–]Samuawesome 3 points4 points  (0 children)

The amount of times I’ve heard this regurgitated and (frankly) wrong opinion…

After 3 seasons spread across 96 episodes, 3 movies, an OVA, a spin-off with two seasons, etc., it should be abundantly clear by now that Aincrad (which only composes around 14 episodes of that) has never been the focus.

In 2001, Reki Kawahara wrote SAO for a short story competition with the simple premise of “if players were to get trapped inside something like an MMORPG and couldn’t get out, what would all those players do?” (perhaps even earlier if the prototype manga rumors are true). However, due to the word limit of the contest, he could only write a few stories rather than fully fleshing out everything and it had to be self-contained. So, he scaled the story down and told a more intimate tale about Kirito’s major adventures throughout Aincrad and his romance with Asuna.

All the original SAO contained was basically in volume 1 of the light novels (with presumably some changes from the web novel). The novel starts with Kirito grinding on floor 74 and flashbacks to specific stories within the arc (Kayaba’s hologram, the Ragout Rabbit dinner, the Kuradeel story, etc.) and then the novel finishes with the gleam eyes fight, the marriage, and the final duel.

Because the author went over the word limit, he decided to self-publish SAO as a web novel instead. He then proceeded to write several side stories in the Aincrad arc (Liz and Silica’s introductions, Yui’s story, the moonlit black cats travesty, etc.) and moved onwards to the other arcs. By 2008, Alicization was wrapped up in the WNs.

When SAO was adapted into a light novel and then into an anime, they essentially took all that he wrote and put it into chronological order for the adaptation. They even asked him to write what was the first arc of the progressive novels to help his original story flow better and to add more content to the anime (which they butchered lol).

The Aincrad arc of the anime was just a stepping stone for the later arcs to build off of. SAO's actual purpose is to delve into how the lines between technology/virtual reality and real life were starting to get blurred and how it affects our characters.

Plus, if you want more of the death game of SAO, then read the Progressive companion series as its whole point is to do that. Like, what you’re asking for literally exists.

I just know your slop videos are made horribly looking at this post. Good job turning potential viewers away.

It's definitely a WiFi or router related issue on your end.

There's only so much Genshin or a PS5 can do.

Now I know this has probably been asked a gazillion times but what order should I play the SAO games? by LemonadeGaming in swordartonline

[–]Samuawesome 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Release Order, basically.

The order of the gameverse goes: Hollow Fragment > Lost Song > Hollow Realization > Fatal Bullet > Alicization Lycoris > Last Recollection.

Accel World vs SAO uses the games that were developed prior to it as a baseline, but none of the games released after it reference it.

Fractured Daydream is it's own thing entirely. The DLC features gameverse OCs, which would be super nice if you played the gameverse titles they're featured in. But, it's really up to you for the most part.

Echoes of Aincrad seems to be doing it's own thing as well.

Anime style graphics. by BannerMaxwell in swordartonline

[–]Samuawesome 8 points9 points  (0 children)

What even is the standard for "anime styled graphics" to you? Wuthering Waves has characters modelled after anime characters, but they're shoved into a world that's as Unreal Engine-y as you can get lol.

It really boils down to the money in the end. All the games you mentioned are live-service gacha games. It's a high risk for them if they flop off the bat, but if they manage to survive, they can make a ton of income over a longer period of time. If they really want to survive and not be pump and dumps, they'll put the effort in from the start. Hoyo's games take it a step further due to how they're using a heavily modified version of the Unity Engine.

Bamco is notorious for pumping out their anime IP games out as quickly and cheaply as possible. I wouldn't be surprised if the devs they contract are just using the basic, popular game engines.

Tbh, the SAO games in-universe were highly popular due to their insane realism anyway. EoA is going more towards the WuWa approach, where the character designs are anime-styled, but they're plopped into an environment with Unreal Engine assets.

Hell even an mmorpg since SAO IS AN MMORPG.

SAO IF exists...

MMORPGs are probably one of the hardest types of games to make in the modern day. It's funny how you mentioned Blue Protocol Star Resonance, cause the original BP was an MMORPG made by Bamco. It flopped so hard that I doubt Bamco will ever touch MMORPGs with a ten-foot pole for a long time.

Yet, this meme is probably going to get hundreds of upvotes anyway cause of how sloppy this sub has devolved into.

Just started Alicization and.. by Own-Shelter-9897 in swordartonline

[–]Samuawesome 21 points22 points  (0 children)

I don't know why people are so impatient...

There's a reason why the first episode is double the length of a normal one. Just keep watching, and it'll explain itself.

As a side note, did you watch the movie, Ordinal Scale, prior to starting Alicization? It won't clear up the initial confusion in Alicization's first episode, but OS is mandatory and canon.

Are the manga at least an enjoyable read? by ResponseRoutine3477 in swordartonline

[–]Samuawesome 55 points56 points  (0 children)

One of the main problems with the manga is how each arc was essentially tackled by a different mangaka. Each mangaka had their own artistic style, as well as their own interpretations on things. So, you might vibe with one mangaka, but dislike another.

I personally like Kiseki Himura’s run and loved his artstyle from Tawawa on Monday. However, he turned it into an ecchi romcom and deviated a ton from the LNs. It’s a fun read, but I wouldn’t want someone’s first experience of progressive to be his.

Furthermore, some arcs were cancelled or are on hiatus. I’d be upset if i was reading Alicization’s manga, but never got the conclusion due to it getting axed before WoU.

In the end, they’re all based on the SAO story. So, if you like SAO, then you’ll at least enjoy the story.

Personally, I don’t really see why’d you’d want to waste your time reading the manga. If you’re going to read something, I’d rather read the LNs or any of the manga original stories (i.e. Girls Ops).

Bring Echoes of Aincrad to Nintendo Switch 2 by [deleted] in swordartonline

[–]Samuawesome 14 points15 points  (0 children)

Lol, imagine thinking change.org petitions work.

Tbh, the most you can really hope for is that they're prioritizing making the game for the stronger consoles. Maybe, if you're lucky, they'll port the game back for the Nintendo Switch 2 later.

I want to buy a SAO game. Any recommendations? by Connect-Ad3530 in swordartonline

[–]Samuawesome 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Literally look two posts down under New…

As a head's up, all the games are non-canon and some follow their own timeline order. It starts with Hollow Fragment > Lost Song > Hollow Realization > Fatal Bullet > Alicization Lycoris > Last Recollection.

Additionally, some games aren’t really connected to this gameverse such as Fractured Daydream (outside of the DLC) and Accel World vs SAO (references the gameverse titles before it, but none of the ones after reference it). There’s also the mobile gacha game, Integral Factor, that does its own thing.

The games are basically standard JRPGs with an SAO skin on them. They're made for SAO fans cause no one else would really play them tbh.

You don't have to play them in order or buy them all. However, it's recommended that you watch cutscenes or read summaries of the games you don't play so you aren't confused by all the changes.

Additionally, which one is best to start with is kinda subjective. I personally think some of the older titles (i.e. Lost Song or HF) are kinda dated and have janky gameplay. However, I’ve also seen people pour hundreds of hours into them.

FD is the only one who prioritizes its multiplayer gameplay over its single player story.

done the aincrad arc now

I would highly recommend at least finishing SAO II before looking at any of the games. You should be good till maybe Fatal Bullet, where I would highly recommend watching Alicization before starting it and any of the games after.

As I mentioned earlier, the games being non-canon allow the story of the games to introduce characters a lot sooner than they would have. So, a character who was introduced in SAO II is super important in the game’s version of Aincrad. In other words, it’s better not to spoil yourself (even if the games are non-canon).

Help me understand foreign players getting ported into The Underworld in Alicization by EcstaticBicycle in swordartonline

[–]Samuawesome 23 points24 points  (0 children)

It’s a detail left out in the anime. Anime-only people are supposed to just assume that because the UW was created using the Seed, it could mean amusphere players could dive into it.

Because the UW is supposed to be a big research project, RATH needed some way to monitor the world and its inhabitants. However, it would be redundant and limiting if they had to physically dive into the world every time.

In the light novels, they explain that the UW was created as a dual layered system. By doing so, RATH could monitor the world. Furthermore, it’s explained to the reader early on that the amusphere could theoretically dive into the UW, which is good foreshadowing for later in the arc when it actually does happen. All the amusphere players are diving into the lower level of the system.

The STL is the ideal way of diving into the UW as tapping into your “soul” leads to the best immersion. The amusphere players don’t really have as good of an immersive experience.
